M*A*S*H* may be the most popular, but Hogan’s Heroes was the most ridiculous, in the best way. It took the bold move of following the members of a POW camp who foil the plans of inept Nazis.
A large portion of the cast, including the ones who played the Nazis, were Jewish. They faced persecution and never lost their physical and mental scars. The show gave them and everyone else a chance to laugh at it all in a satirical way.
The world loved watching their shenanigans for six seasons and a string of merchandise. It aired in several countries, including a highly edited version in Germany. Even the creation of the show was a bit weird. They filmed in Los Angeles and put fake snow everywhere. The winter weather was supposed to make everything feel more bleak. The show cared more about entertaining its audiences than anything. In the process, it missed a few mistakes and inconsistencies.
The timeframe was one of the main problems. The characters referenced things that wouldn’t have existed in the 1940s, such as Speedy Gonzales and the Pentagon. A periodic table of the elements includes ones yet to be discovered. Carter’s level of chemical knowledge is only one thing that remained inconsistent between episodes.
Eagle-eyed viewers will notice wardrobe changes. How did Carter’s worn jacket get clean or his hat change from red to blue? These details don’t change the show’s impact, but they are interesting pieces of knowledge for fans.

How come you guys can never get the actors names right? It’s Werner Klemperer not Klempner. Also it’s Robert Clary. Not Clay remember, you should never be afraid to use google

Hogan is an easy choice for favorite, but that's only because he was the mastermind and headliner. The other characters were so enjoyable and entertaining to watch. Each character had an important part to play it seemed in every episode. It was a very nice balance, and you got to look forward to watching each character. This show had a very large ensemble hence the length of this video. All the actors/actresses were very good. Amazingly their characters were well developed despite the plethora of characters. The storyline and antics were funny, entertaining, and dramatic, too. The show was great. In many ways more enjoyable to watch than other great shows of its era. The theme song was great, too. Now on to see the re-runs again!

About Leonid Kinsley: I never have believed that account of his leaving after the pilot because he was too virtuous for the subject matter. I think that, in the middle of the Cold War and 3 years after the Cuban Missle Crisis, American audiences were not interested in seeing a Russian portrayed as an ally.

Some errors in this with regard to actor names. Robert Clary is referred to as Clay. And worst of all Werner Klemperer is referred to as Klempner. Very careless.

There is a continuity error in many episodes, in some episodes there is a sink by the door where they use the faucet as a parascope and other episodes there are a set of lockers in the same location.

Schultz carrying a Model 96 Krag instead of a Mauser was always strange. The Krag sticks out like a sore thumb with it's side loading receiver (easily seen in many shots of Schultz holding his rifle). I know this observation isn't anything new

I always thought it was funny with the outdoor shots. The big dirt berm / hill outside the fence, can also be seen on episodes of Andy Griffith Show, because the Mayberry set was next to it. Barney flying down the dirt road in the squad car with that hill right beside the road.

Andy Griffith show, Gomer Pyle, and a few other shows were filmed next to each other. Even Star Trek used the Andy Griffith show set in one of their episodes. At the time the area was nicknamed the Back Forty. If you watched closely, you can see the sets of others shows in the background.

As kid, after watching the film "Stalag 17", I refused to watch "Hogan's Heroes" because I didn't believe POW camps were funny. Couldn't watch "The Beverly Hillbillies" either. I believed the sitcom made fun of "poor people". Kid logic. 😆

WTF! This video lost all credibility after mispronouncing and misspelling Werner Klemperer's name multiple times.
Please allow someone who is familiar with the show do the narrating. It is obvious that the current narrator is reading from a script and has never watched the show.
