This has been so helpful. I’m so excited to go try these things! Thank you
You're so welcome!
This is an awesome tutorial! It is helping me so much to get more of a bluegrass versus a straight classical sound. Love it!! Thanks for helping me to understand this so much better - so much fun!!!
I’m so glad to hear this! I need to do more of these!
I loved this, so useful! I play classical but looking for something different and fresh to keep it interesting! Can’t wait to try it!
Awesome! Thank you!
Thank you SO MUCH. Keep the video instructions coming!
You bet!
How to “fiddle” with fiddle music. This is exactly what I was looking for. Systematically transforming the basic tune to your own with your own signature. This has been very helpful.
So glad to hear that this was helpful for you. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks so much for posting this video! I'm 9months into the violin and I'm in love with the instrument. I appreciate your help and maybe our paths will cross one day and we can jam!
Glad it was helpful!
Love you so much! I am seeing Trampled by Turtles in concert this March and I bet you would do an amazing cover of one of their songs! Would love to hear Codeine as it's my favorite. No pressure obviously. Love every song you do (even songs that I dont like the originals).
You are such an inspiration. I would love to take fiddle lessons someday since I live in Appalachia and love the beauty, history, music, and people of this place.
Thank you so so much!!! Truly appreciate it and good idea
You are worth your weight in gold ,young man. Home schoolers are all gonna be fiddlers, what an excellent teacher
Thx
Awesome tutorial dude!! 👍👍
Thx!!
Yes yes yes! Please do more of these!!!
More coming! I’m going to do a video on my set up, and a lot more of these tutorial type videos
Thank You! Love what you are doing!
You’re so welcome!
So happy that this video popped up on my feed this morning! Wow, you are absolutely amazing! I'm an oldster less than 2yrs into learning fiddle; but having learned the basic Cripple Creek some time back and wanting to use it as a platform to develop my still-modest skills, I love your inspiring and insightful approach in this video. Glad to be a new subscriber!
Thanks so much! Check out my original stuff too! philipbowen.ffm.to/album.OIS
Thank You, SO much, for this! Learning to improvise and finding the confidence to ‘speak up’ with my fiddle has been an intimidating task for me, this has really helped in breaking things down into steps!😃
You are so welcome!
Excellent!
Thank you! Cheers!
I love your simplification of the process!
I enjoy listening to other’s flourishes and improv. It really helps you grow.
Thank you for all you do!
That’s super kind, thank you! Glad you enjoyed. Definitely want to do more of these
Thanks! Very helpful!
You’re so welcome! More soon!
Great job covering a ton of improv ideas.
Glad it was helpful!
I’m so happy you are doing this!!! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed!
Great lesson. I would like to see some beginning licks to stick into the song step by step. That would give the beginning improv something to learn and give understanding to beginning improvisation. Thank you so much!
Great suggestion!
Good point, @Take the Stage LV. ⭐️ Philip, if you could give us 5 slower licks to build into our playing. Would be super helpful for us beginners. 🙏🏼
@@leimaniax love this idea!
Thank you I have been watching you for a long time. I love what you do and how you play. I have been learning on my own how to play a fiddle.
Great to hear!
You amaze me. I very thin fingers and I have a hard time not touching an open drone string. You have a man’s hand and you play so fast and never touch an open string. Wow!!! My dad could do that but I was to cool to play a fiddle in my teens. Lol I am now 77 years young and want to play. He played by ear and played with Bob Wells. Only at home. My dad didn’t travel with Bob they were just good friends.
Excellent video! Great player, great teacher.
Thx so much!
Morning Phil, Is there a particular wood you prefer your violin to be?
Very interesting question, that I don't know the answer to lol! BUT I would say before buying any violin you want to go try several and play them and play them and play em some more :-) - Most violin shops will let you even take an instrument home for a test drive
Practice: People want to run before they can crawl. The work it takes to get to a point of improvising takes time. To get to where you are at 16:50 130BPM takes time. I'm no where near this level But making progress. My tip is for those who want to play like this is put good quality practice habits in. Practice everyday on something...Tone...Intonation... Rhythm over and over and over...the magic comes the next day when you pick the fiddle back up. What you are looking for is progress not perfection. But make the practice meaningful even if it's only for 5 minutes....KEEP PLAYING
practice is indeed key
Thank you so much for this! I will definitely show this to my daughter! What kind of strings do you recommend? She's getting pretty good and I don't want the equipment to hold her back. Thanks again.
Glad it was helpful! For strings I would recommend the brand "Evah Pirazzi" they are my absolute favorite in the world! I also like Passione. If you want a less expensive set, Infeld and Pirastro Tonica are both great
