- On this episode of Cody Crafted, we test out the hot of the shelf Badlands Off-Road Jack from Harbor Freight. In this in-depth review, we cover build quality, construction, and talk about some of uses it would be helpful with and put through our own little test course around the shop. This video is not sponsored, we did purchase this outright for the shop and wanted to share our thoughts with you if you were thinking about adding this tool to your arsenal.
We will shout out @harborfreight, as a growing shop we have used many items they provide and and certainly seen a lift in quality products for those of us that need long lasting tools that you can use over and over again.

Thank you for contacting
Harbor Freight Tools.
We appreciate the time you took in contacting us and we are more than happy to assist.
There has been a mistake on the box and there is no rear axle wheel-lock on the
Badland 3 ton off road jack.
However, this jack utilizes a handle lock that allows the jack to be maneuvered. The handle gets locked into a 45 degree position that allows the user to lift the front wheels off the ground to easily move the jack around.
Please let us know if we can assist you further.
Great and most in-depth review i have seen on the Badlands 3 ton jack yet!!
Thank you
After seeing how you can roll that truck with it jacked up sold me! Didn’t think the plastic wheels were tough enough.
We have been super impressed with it so far. Obviously that was a worst case scenario but that was the point of the test for us. Thanks for watching.
Great review! Thorough and well put together! I just got mine because putting a 6x6 on my 25 year old craftsman was getting old. The Daytonas never seemed a worthwhile improvement. But this bad boy does. Waited for a coupon and got one. Thanks!
Excellent review! I love the detail thought process through out. At first I saw the length at 25 minutes and figured I would be skipping through it but you hooked me 😂
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for the watching. What would you like to see us review in a future video?
Same lmao
Great video. Bought one for working on my 4x4 Tahoe (2006). Have the 1.5 HF jack that you have, but I can't hit the frame with it. So far really impressed.
I use it so much even for other people when out and about because I paired with a CMS jack mount off Amazon and now it lives on the truck. Great offroad and in the shop.
Do you have a link?
Great review. I picked this jack up a couple weeks ago. So far im very impressed, definitely reccomend. Just for jacking the 1500 up on anything other than concrete for normal maintenance it's comepletly Worth it.
It's been getting regular use around the shop and lives in my F250 "chase truck". I'm very happy
Great video. Thank you
Thank you sir
best review so far I have watched
Thank you
Mine is still in the box and after this review I’m excited to use mine
It's rocking and rolling still
Great video. Thanks for the tip on the Daystar extensions.
Thank you. Glad to help
My local HF has them in stock and I will be picking one up for my new Raptor.
Awesome review brother. Getting one next weekend.
Right on!
Bleep bloop...now that was fun to watch the super duty with the jack! lol
We wanted to do something a little different
I just picked up my 2024 Colorado ZR2 a couple weekends ago, and as I'm new to serious offroading (I "softroaded" my RAV4 for years until I could get the truck I wanted), lately I have been buying things like recovery straps, soft shackles, etc. I saw this jack in HF a few weeks ago, and thought this would be great on the trail, glad to see vids of it in action!
Right on!
SOTAR for jacks. I dig it. Thorough review!
Thank you sir!
For the uninitiated, that's School Of The American Rifle. And that's high praise
This jack is disgusting awesome
You are a man of wisdom.
I dunne about all that. But I appreciate the compliment
Thank you
Great review. Any mounting ideas for the pickup bed?
Of course, if you're local, we can come up with something slick that's purpose built for your application: but theres some out there
Grove has a slick one

I think it's awesome and I'm waiting for mine to arrive at my local HF. ( I pre ordered it) great review Thumbs up n subbed. Dandahermit
Thank you so much for the feedback and support. We hope you enjoy your as much as we do ours.
Very details review ... bought one on bf for $279...
Thanks! I saw the sale flyer and wondered if I could use a second!
Good video. Thinking of getting one. Question is a 3 ton enough jack for a 23 Tundra?
My f250 weights substantially more than that Tundra. 9200lbs to be precise.
You're gonna be fine
Definitely worth it! For the money! You can’t go wrong! Compared to the eagle I think they’re about the same quality! Great review! And impressive jack.
Thank you!
Pro eagle is made in the USA and the harbor freight is made overseas
I don't believe the Pro Eagle is made in the USA maybe assembled in the USA but made in China.
@@spencermorrow2899pro eagle is designed in USA & made in china lol.
@@spencermorrow2899they refuse to tell their customers where they are made. It’s made in Chyyyyyyna
Well there is one minor but important and very useful difference between the Badlands and the Pro Eagle jack that make this Harbor Freight jack a better value and worth purchasing over the Pro Eagle aside from the money and that is the jack locking lever which allows the jack to be easily maneuvered and positioned using the jack handle... something you can't do with the Pro Eagle.
If it was made in the USA like other pit Jacks, it would be worth the asking price.

@CodyCrafted Well that is subjective. Some people don't care about "American Made" as much as others do and still prefer to buy goods based on cost, quality and or functionality and overall value instead of choosing American made products based on their patriotic sentiments or perhaps a lack thereof. But yes, I'm a retired soldier so I totally get it when people opt to purchase American made products even if it costs more... but in this case, my previous comment makes sense since both of these jacks are Chinese made and "American made" isn't even part of the equation.
Well, it matters to me.
At the end of the day, the Badlands jack is a good value. A year later, it's still riding Bird Dog in the shop truck every day
Great review, thought it was a bit TMI in the beginning but all useful information. Riding the jack on the gravel was not something I ever considered. May need that someday.
I’ve had mine for about two weeks and the box states “rear axle wheel lock: help hold the jack in place “. Does anyone know how this feature works? I emailed HF, still waiting on response.
There should be a little lever near the back wheels, but it doesn't lock the wheels, it locks the handle.
Thanks. Here’s the response from HF:

Yeah I don't think that's a feature that would ever be used. As the lifting pad swings on an arc, the base has to roll
Get the guy from Project Farm to see how many times he can raise and lower his pickup before it fails. :)))
Send him over
I don’t know why but I tensed up when you moved the truck with it on the jack
I nearly pulled the seat cushion off from the driver's seat
I really need this for my truck but wow that price is a bit much
Wait for a coupon? There's not anything that does what it does for even double the price
Muy buena se mira
Gracias
It’s a good jack. every one and their mom has a a harbor freight jack, if not the one they have is probably made in the same factory. this badland is bad ass it’s not a budget jack it’s priced right not no 600 dollars. I think pro eagle priced it like that because it’s made in the USA? Or there was nothing else the same on the market.
Pro Eagle also made overseas
A normal hydraulic jack the rear wheels steer. Larger rear tires is why probably this jack does not do this, why they put the handle lock on this jack. To haul this jack one thing I would like if the wheels had brake locks.
I would like to create a Transmission Jack adaptor for this jack.
The lifting pad swings on an arc (just like any rolling floor jack), locking wheels would actually be dangerous. As you lift the vehicle the jack has to roll to prevent it from pulling off the frame or lifting point.
The frame is too narrow for transmission duty. It'll be too tippy. I've got the HF floor transmission jack, it actually goes a half inch higher than the Badlands. (According to the website specs). Thanks for watching.
Yes you have great videos, my neighbor did his transmission with no jack, I would have loaned him a jack, I have two Harbor Freight 4-ton jacks with the DAYTONA Steel Floor Jack Cross Beams, anything would be better than nothing. @@CodyCrafted
I wanted the wheel lock only for hauling in the bed of the truck, off when jacking of course. I can use rubber vehicle bump stops@@CodyCrafted
☝️or the cat. of roader (400-450$ same kinda thing, better name- color, etc.)
2 things Iv read in general description, which may be BS, for liability, & or customer whining reasons.. U seem quite technically experienced, you tell me?
1- ‘this is only to be used on flat, level, ground’
&2- minimal height 5&3/4”, actually never mind that, it’s frigN trU!, 6-7” actually.. those front wheels are way bigger then I thought..
Im guesscing that it CAN roll on gravl, mud, moderate slopes, etc. - wats Ur gStimate?🤔..
Liability is a thing. Gotta use your noodle and make the best choice for you.
Understood, they’re careful of liability & so R U, fair enough chEf👋(& btw it’s obVS wat Ur tAk is, based on your being liability careful not to say it, but no worries, U didNt😉)
Sold…
been a few months, so far so good. It lives in the shop truck now
@@CodyCrafted We blew TWO tires on our 5th wheel camper last weekend, I had a standard floor jack with me but it’s a colossal pain in the ass moving it around on the side of the road.
‘a bad application’? & horrible video, actually the video description probley less lousy, ok, is my latest video about jacking up vehicle which requires super low entry clearance, combined with 19-21” height on 1 small hidden spot deliberately nearly impossible to get to. I started to hear an attempted such jack crack &/or crumble, & switched to bottle jack on top of metal plate, w/rubber underneath to level, etc., but couldn’t put picture on video or coments do to the usual computer instructions type dumness of stuf. also, had to make custom brick/ramps just small, & tall enough(5/8/17 w/removable ramps) to get it started. click smirky, videos, & ‘jack standing a 12 .. bla bla etc.’ anyhU the front whEls R 2 dRn on that, I think Il chill out till maybe cat 2 ton(with whEls model) rolls out(no pun int.)
Back in my racing days, we would add a jack pad to the structure underneath. Usually a capped piece of tubing so it centers in the jack saddle.
Pro eagle 10x better
Based on what?
