I like the color palette you use very much. So soft, so "cozy", so comfortable to look at. Nothing "harsh". How do you look for a color palette, before starting with coloring usually?

Hmm usually when I look at the page I can see it coloured a certain way in my mind. Sometimes it takes a few flip throughs of the book before a page stands out to me. It’s getting tough now there are less pages left. But once I can picture the page or even just elements of it in my head then I can work out a colour palette. I almost always plan the colours before I start. Then I usually keep all the colours in the same tone range. I will use complimentary colours (opposites) on the main focus points then keep the same hues for the rest of the picture so it blends into the background.

@@MyColourfulCountryLife I am a dedicated viewer of all your work. I am so happy I read this comment because I was also wondering the same thing, about your color scheme and planning. I was super overwhelmed when I ordered my biggest box of Prisma pencils (132) , I was excited and opened them, took all the trays out and set them on the only surface in my tiny house big enough so that I could view them all by at one time,my floor. I was thinking, who in the heck needs all these colors, unless they are drawing children's books or something like that. At the tIme I couldn't see the difference between two of the colors that were close, but not quite. Long story short thanks to your dedication and hardwork, you have helped me, and I am sure hundreds of scared "wannabe" artists take the leap and color the books that have been on the shelf for months or even years. My next goal, after I finish all my WIP from all of worlds within worlds, is to try and plan out a page on my own, decided a color scheme and complete it, using everything you had taught me from your videos. Amy tips you have t shared would be extra appreciated. My most sincere thanks to you.

Thanks again Karen I have really enjoyed colouring this page, however I chickened out on the background🤦‍♀️

That’s ok, you could always try the background on a piece of paper to get used to the technique before you try it in the book 😁

In a bold move designed to dazzle her peers and bring the audience to their feet, she puts mineral orange over limepeel. I nearly chit myself girl. Who says watching coloring videos isn't a spectator sport! Doing this as a colour along but you lost me on the background Karen. It looked like you went very lightly with pale sage and then started defining a bit with the limepeel and then I have no idea. Is there any chance you could explain the process or should I break out my pastels? Awesome job.

      Haha, loving the commentary 😆
Ok so I used the pale sage very lightly pretty much everywhere except leaving different sized white circles near the butterflies and the flower. I wanted the outside darker and the inside to sort of glow. I then went over with the lime peel probably with medium pressure and darkened out from the outside edges and the shadows of the flower and I left more circles that exposed the limepeel underneath. Then I used the moss green and the oranges to create shadows and light in a few areas over the top. I coloured a few white circles with cream and left the rest white. Blended with pale sage and used the white to soften up the edge of the circles 😊
