  • Hello to whom it may concern @ Lindy Fralin.
I appreciate you asking for a sound byte.
I am not out to be unfair after I installed the pickups I immediately was not happy with the sound of the rear pickup. I have just lived with it adjusting my amp volume to accommodate for the difference in balance and quality of this rear pickup. It is not a favourite bass of mine for recording there just seems to be an imbalance in-between the front and back pickup.
After taking my double bass for a service. I asked Richard Greenup of the Bass Shop Sydney a very experience Luther to check over my bass. He said all the wiring in the control plate is fine and just replaced the input jack just in case as that is the wear and tare of an instrument can occur.
Unfortunately he said he did not like to sound of the pickups
Here is a audio pickup test Front & Back only.
Recorded with my trusty OLD Protools 9 setup with no EQ/Processing.
As for storage of the bass regarding de magnification of the pickups.
I just use my 9 basses as usual when I am not using them I will put them into a case. Lindy Franlin pickup's to me is a long standing classic quality pickup brand. That is why I chose them. Thank you for returning my email quivery.
    From Max

Wow sorry to hear that. I read some folks really like those PuPs. I thought I would mention I just replaced the pick up's in my Geddy Lee sig bass with a pair of Tom Brantley Geddy PuPs which I really like alot. They have more of that 70s thing going on. Anyway good luck getting this worked out

Hi Michael, Thankyou for the reply. There is a huge volume difference in between the front and rear pickup. I will get around to replacing the Volume and tone control plate ( I have a spare one ) To see if there is a rear volume pot problem. I knew the bass had a rear pickup problem when I bought it. Out of the 3 second hand fender JAP jazz bass that were in the shop this one had the feel I liked. All good still just a small work around for now. Hope your enjoying your bass playing and the life long learning music teaches us. All the best from Max

@@MultiBassmusic Maybe you can try to measure the resistance of the pickups, to check if there could be something wrong with the windings of 1 pickup.

Hello, I saw your video, looks like you need to adjust the height of each pick up.
For example, on my SX jazz bass, I installed LF pick ups and I can find that:
Bridge pick up height from body is 10 mm on G string side, and is 7.5 mm on E string side.
Neck pick up is 5mm on G string side and 5mm on E string side.
I installed new pick ups and tuned strings, last step was to balance pick ups height with a screw driver depending of the level of volume on each pick up. Of course my ears try to find the perfect balance between both pick ups using fingers, pick, tapping, slap pop techniques.
Some times take some days to listen to the perfect level between both pick ups, depending on my taste.
    To adjust height:
The first thing I do is try to keep the bridge pick up the most tall or nearest to strings as posible and maybe screw down a little bit if pick up is too tall..
Then I try to adjust neck pick up to the sound of bridge pick up. Must keep in mind that strings vibration on neck pick up is wider and sometime can touch pick pick up, you must to avoid that.
That is my method, and if I not achieve my goal I start whole method again, and again, and again until I find a nice balance. Some times leave my bass and try again next day.
    I hope It can help.
