    Quite a good review. A little bit to add on to the review from the owner of the Ioniq HEV+:
    1) Average fuel consumption = 21KM/L after 7K mileage of usage, including city driving and frequent long distance driving by PLUS highway, longest distance for now is from KL to Ipoh. Highway speed of 110-140KM/H, hilly city roads mostly. Do get to know their drive chain patterns on the official webpage (combination of petrol engine and electrical motor under which road condition) to understand the effect on the fuel efficiency. Hill climbing (even a not so steep angle) will require the petrol engine to pump in the power, so if your driving area are hilly (PJ/southern KL area/Puchong) then don't expect the fuel consumption to meet the official number. It can still run on electric motor at 80km/h on highways if the road is flat enough. Don't expect fuel saving if run on Smart Cruise Control on highway, as it will accelerate with high rev to reach your set speed if the slow car in front of you switch lane or you intent to over take the slow car with the feature on. That's how the Smart Cruise control works anyway.
    2) The Smart Cruise Control (aka adaptive cruise control) is available and useful during heavy rains on highway, along with the Lane Keeping Assist feature. You will be able to keep in lane and constant distance from the front car when the vision is terrible during heavy downpours without hassle.
    3) The side LED lights are the day-time running lights.
    4) Auto lights sensor and rain sensor are available. Can be switch on or turn off depends on your preference. It is quite useful and annoying at the same time for some people.
    5) Rear seats - should be PU leather instead of genuine leather (by the feels of it and the price tag). It is flat enough to squeeze in 3 person, normal size by average height of 160cm - 170cm, as compare to Civic which actually have a semi-bucket feels for the rear seats - comfortable for 2 person but not 3. Those at the side will feels the side of their back laying on the edge of the cushion when there is 3rd person in the middle (for the Civic), which might feels uncomfortable for long distance. As for the Ioniq, the flat back support (due to the 40-60 fold-able feature) will be a bit more comfortable for 3 person sitting compare to Civic. And the rear seat is higher due to the battery for the electric motor underneath - which makes it a good seat level for elderly to get in and out and sit comfortably without bending too much on the knees. Civic has a lower rear seat level, which sits more comfortably but might be a bit hard for elderly to move in and out if they have a weak knees. (Civic has the largest interior space anyway for C-segment cars, undoubtedly)
    6) Rear air vent - just nice with the flat flush design without any cup holder/compartment, which won't be useful anyway if there is people sitting in the middle. Be mindful that the air vent requires some space for the air ducting to channel the cool air, hence they just make it flat to maximize the volume required for the efficient air flow to the rear. It is better than their Elantra 1.8 where they have to fit in the rear air vent into the tight rear seat space and make it hard for young adults to move in and out from the center rear seat. At least the legs won't get stuck by the rear air vent for the Ioniq with the flat flush design approach.
    7) The door soft plastic feels just right, even feels better than the Vios to say. Of course not to mention the local cars of the twin P.
    8) The acceleration/pedal respond is better than Prius. Driven the Prius of my ex-boss and compare it to the Ioniq DCT, Ioniq feels more responsive. At least it picks up faster than Prius off the green light (of course still slow if compare to non-hybrid cars).
    9) Tire pressure monitor - notice those not-so-fancy rims? It is for the tire pressure sensors. Good for those who not really checking on the tire pressure frequently. Like me. :)
    Overall a good buy if you are looking at a fuel efficient car. Hybrid with that price tag is no where to find in Malaysia nowadays, even the Prius back then before the tax exemption removed was >140K (well, it is a CBU compare to the Ioniq of SKD - partially local assembly according to the salesman). All in all, the price tag worth what it gives with the features available and the warranties/service package for the car.
    And my friend's impression, an automobile enthusiast on the first look of the car during night time: the front lights look like an Audi while the rear lights, particularly, look like Aston Martin. Well, it's a "Hybrid" anyway, isn't it?

      +Brandon Chin, do you think the HEV is still worth buying compared to the HEV plus with the extra features?

    • @MyMotoKing
      @MyMotoKing Před 7 lety +3

      Jackie Wong well it's like choosing between the Civic 1.8S and the 1.5T, which one will u go for? My thought on the HEV and HEV+: if u consider only the HEV, why not go for City? As per Bobby's review, the car not much different from the B-segment City if not of the other features. Ioniq selling point actually is the extra features in the HEV+, which will only be available in premium car brand and model. Hope that gives u some thoughts.

    • @MyMotoKing
      @MyMotoKing Před 7 lety +7

      Nirmal Umar most of your questions have to be answer by the sales rep I suppose. :) Anyway I'll try to give u some reference:
      1) car battery warranty: not sure about the warranty renewal upon battery change. I never thought of that actually, as I plan to change car once the battery warranty ends at the 8th year. .By that time, we never know how will the battery tech will evolve and the current battery might not be efficient/worth of changing.
      2) synthetic oil
      3)my experience as shared in the comment. Cabin is silence, u won't notice the car start up after u push the button. The only noise is from the tires, but that is minimal. No noise from the engine bay, unless u rev high in sport mode. Test drive one if u have the opportunity.
      4) 2nd batch? What u mean? 2nd gen Ioniq? Not so soon I guess. They are launching the new Elantra, u may wanna look into it. Got turbo version to challenge Civic. More HP than Civic Turbo and the price is convincing.
      If u change from a B segment to C segment, u might wanna keep the money n skip Ioniq. I'm actually switching from a Saga BLM to Ioniq, so consider satisfy with the switch. It is better than Vios in many aspects as I'm driving my wife's Vios on weekdays and the Ioniq on weekends, so can actually experience the differences in deep.

    Got the Hyundai hybrid Premium SE model recently. (2018 -UK) Loving it. Easily the best car I have ever had. Early days but averaging 62 mpg although I did have it in the sport mode a few times which makes it feel a different car again. Have to get used to a silent car on start up. Looks stunning in the platinum silver finish and much better looking than the Prius. Dual clutch automatic super smooth.

    About the leather seat. The rear passenger seat more like a PU and the front feel like a soft leather. CKD version have a different leather material than the international hyundai market. So this is decision made by hyundai malaysia.

    Great review Bobby. I am receiving a lease Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid in January and cannot wait. If the PHEV had 50 mile range then I would have chosen that, but 24 miles real world range wouldn't cover my daily needs so the cost benefit didn't quite make sense. The lease is 4 years, by that time either electric version will be significantly cheaper or PHEVs will have much better range, exciting times ahead 😀

    24:22 the exterior is what they call a Kammback profile. and has been around long before the Insight 1st gen. It is designed to reduce drag. Try wiki it.

    • @BobbyAngmalaysia
      @BobbyAngmalaysia  Před 7 lety +3

      +Dares Ng thanks! Well its a 'shortcut' to reduce drag because the A4 has lower drag than many hybrids with this profile. But thanks for pointing out! I'll wiki and learn more!

    • @dexnpy
      @dexnpy Před 7 lety +3

      Indeed Kammback is just one of many ways to reduce drag.

  • @athlonium

    C segment size car. The car is wider than civic and although this car is a fastback car the car is actually longer than honda city sedan But yes the interior space more like a b segment car especially at the rear seat. Because the battery is actually under the rear passenger seat.

    Another good in depth review, I try not to miss any review from you.
    I have a question if you don't mind. How well do you think this car in term of fuel efficiency if I drive let say 80% on highway with the speed of 110 to 120 km/h daily and 20% city driving.
    Do you still get the low fuel consumption in city driving or hybrid mechanics of the car rarely kick in hence it's just like a non hybrid drive?

    Bobby, which SUV u can recommend in the price range of RM170K? Tiguan,Hyundai Santa,Kia Sorento or CRV 2.4?

    • @BobbyAngmalaysia
      @BobbyAngmalaysia  Před 7 lety

      +Thayanand Palanisamy the Koreans at this price point is one size larger than the others. CRV is not recommended anymore because new one is on the way very soon. Tiguan has high tech interior gadgetry, nice to drive and comfortable. New CX5 is arriving soon, a very promising car that looks absolutely amazing and high quality interior.

    Bobby, just a head's up. Ioniq actually does have adaptive cruise control like the Volvo. Roda Pusing guys tested this on their review, you can check it out here: czcams.com/video/wWwdpxU0aW0/video.htmlm15s . It starts at the 11:15 mark

    This is a hybrid. You should at least test out the fuel consumption on city driving as well as highway.

    It was all good until you started showing close-ups of the door panel and the leather seat, to be honest they look very cheaply made even in that price range. That part when you knocked the middle compartment, the hard plastic sound cringed me so much.
    Not exactly sure who Hyundai is trying to target here, it's fuel saving but it's not practical enough for a family due to its limited space. I agree that the lane-assist may be helpful if you are on a long distance drive but it would most probably be more annoying than helpful when you drive in city. With the futuristic design elements and the fancy technologies maybe the young drivers would be interested, but within the same price range I find it hard to imagine anyone wouldn't choose a Mazda 3 over this if they want a car that looks and drives good.

    • @BobbyAngmalaysia
      @BobbyAngmalaysia  Před 7 lety +1

      +James Riden the thing is in Malaysia, we have tax incentives for locally assembled energy efficient vehicles. Mazda 3 and Civic retails about RM130k while the Hyundai Ioniq is around RM100k; so there's a big difference in pricing.
