    Final video of this Z50r engine repair. It was diagnosed with a tired cylinder head in the first video. The owner elected a budget top end install to refresh the engine with. I step you through the process involved.

    This video left me with more questions.
    1. Why does the front valve cover gasket stick up so high above the case? Poor quality kit?
    2. Are the other gaskets crappy too?
    3. Are there higher quality kits out there better than 2Fast?
    4. How did you tension the cam chain?
    5. How did you set the valves?
    6. Is there a break-in process?
    7. What's the compression guage show now on a fresh top end?
    8. What's the leak down test show now?
    9. Does the motor need to be re-timed?
    10. Where would I find these answers?

    I love these little Honda engines. They are built like a swiss watch. But my favourite are the 90cc ones since they have a bit more oomph :-)

    Great videos very informative you helped me do my first ever top end rebuild watching your videos. But I have a question, the cylinder head gets very hot I don’t know if this is normal I have a 70cc kickstart non cooling I haven’t done a proper piston breakin because I’m afraid the cylinder might crack from the heat. I see small amounts of white smoke coming from the cylinder covers. The rings I got did not have any marking so I just guessed on installing, I did offset all 5 gaps

    question for u......I have a 1971 z50 engine (short rod) that my buddy purchased a china 70cc top end kit just like this kit in your video but he has the short rod, can I just purchase an early 69-81 47mm 70cc piston to use this top end kit he purchased? or do you know what piston to use? the piston in the kit has to short of a popup it has the shorter pin to top of piston height

    • @VintageHondaMinis
      @VintageHondaMinis  Před 3 lety

      There is no piston that you can just swap into that kit. You need to buy the piston for the short rod and the matching dome cylinder head. I know you can find one on 2fastMoto website it's called the old dome cylinder head and piston kit or something along those lines.

      @anthonyiuzzolino1554 Před 3 lety

    Be careful with the step where he inserted the ring inside the cylinder prior to installing it on the piston. I tried this and the ring instantly broke, costing me a whole new set of rings and the time for order/delivery. Not sure that step is needed anyway.
