He was the FIRST man, African American, or White to do the first 1 BILLION dollar deal on Wall Street EVER!! Nowadays, they are common, but in 1982 prior to his Beatrice deal, there was no deal like that! When people speak about the deal, they say he was the first African American to do a deal of that size, insinuating that someone else did a deal like that. NO ONE EVER did a deal of that magnitude prior to Reginald Lewis!!

I just listened to the free audiobook here. You can imagine what he would have accomplished if he was still alive today. His dealmaking prowess was fantastic and a masterclass in never allowing society to define you but to constantly push yourself. One thing I learnt here is that exactly how you define yourself is how society will accept you. Define yourself as a billionaire and society accepts you as that; define yourself as disadvantaged and society accepts you as that. You have the power.

The book, "Why Should White Guys Have All The Fun", was something unlike anything I had ever read! it was 97 at a booksale at the USAG Schinnen Army Base, located in Schinnen, NETHERLANDS, that I came across it. That book literally changed my life!
Its too bad that the then owner of Ebony & Jet Magazines was jealous of Lewis becoming the 1st Black Business Owner to reach that level of financial success and choose not to do stories on Lewis until well after Lewis has passed away from cancer. Imagine if more folk had had access to Lewis's Story early on while he was still alive - just imagine how that would have changed business as we know it now!!!

Absolutely Rob! I don't know how true it is, but I have read from various accounts that Mr. Lewis was very interested in putting together the same kind of ("leveraged buyout" type) a deal he used to acquire TLC Beatrice, to purchase Paramount Studios, which would have further changed the landscape in sculpting a more positive perception and controlling our narrative, which would have been a powerful thing.

I remember when he executed that deal. They had an office right off water street and i used my position as an Amway distributer handing out gift catoloqs to incentive driven companies just to get the chance to see it with my own eyes lmao. Im pretty sure that was his daughter i spoke to looked just like the one in the video. Flames that burn twice as brite live half as long. R.I.P. Mr. Lewis.

This is such an inspirational story. I shared this story on twitter. Thank you for sharing this great man's legacy on youtube. I wish I had known that a black man owned McCall's patterns in the 1980s.I just shared this fact with my mother. Hello from Mississippi.

"This is the business" I love it ! I support my brothers and sisters of color and I'm white & Latino. What a man ! Family man, intelligent tenacious and disciplined. I'm surprised Jesse was able to fool him too. Jesse is a bum and I'm from Chicago but a bum is a bum. Mr. Lewis though wow ! What a man !! Now he is an example for people. He closed deals before the sellers knew they had opened them.
