Excellent…very thorough! I have the Pioneer Rev1…had it for months now and don’t know how to do a single scratch. Was feeling like throwing in the towel until now (after seeing your video). Thanks for the inspiration

This reminds me of one of the underground remixes of Silent Treatment by The Roots.

I wish we had this in my teenage years. We used to practice by ear. I had no idea about all these patterns and names. I gave up but my brother continued doing it for years and truth is it was a waste of time and money because he didn't improve either.

Not trying to be a dic here but you more than likely couldn't be more wrong. If your bro kept at it (especially if he had a rhythm and music deficiency:) its because he had a love....it made him smile. It took him to a place. He was in control of the music. There was no one there telling him he was wrong, or it wasn't what he was supposed to do. its sad but it sounds like you may have wasted your time as a DJ, but it sounds like your brother was probably as free as he will ever be. Ask him. So many things in life have a measuring stick attached to them.....and thats good for certain things. But some people consider their time on the decks a success even if they didn't place in the DMC world finals. I am always hard on myself as a DJ but you dont have to be. Its all about where you want it to take you. Sometimes when you are alone its the most satisfyoing/accomplished experience/feeling that you can find. (corn ball time:) Music can set you free if you let it. Keep an open mind and do it for the right reasons.

@@pleitch30 that's nice of you. All he did was smoke weed and dj. He didn't even graduate high school. He's a good person killing himself working two full-time jobs so he can have a fancy sports car.

I had to practice by ear as well. I didn’t know any of the terminology, but that wasn’t really important. I learned to scratch by emulating what I heard on tapes and records. Years later I learned about the actual names of the scratches
