  • Welcome to this review of the Wampler Pantheon Overdrive Pedal, inspired by the famous Marshall Bluesbreaker. In this demo, I'm focusing on how dramatically the Gain Level and Overdrive Voice switches effect the tone. Plugging into a Franklyn Amps 5e3 Tweed Deluxe and using a Lust for Tone Holy Relic Lustcaster and a Gibson SG.

    "I think that Brian Wampler's ear seems to like the same sort of gain character and frequencies that my ear also likes"
    100% agree. I think Brian makes the best gain pedals in the business. This is easily my favorite drive, and the Velvet is my favorite fuzz. Wampler is quickly taking over my whole drive section.

      I'd love to get my hands on the Velvet Fuzz -- also want to try the new Belle (plus I have a daughter named Annabelle so it seems more the fitting) - the first Wampler pedal I ever played was a Euphoria I borrowed and it sold me right away.

      Euphoria is on my list to obtain as well, to fill that Dumble spot. Eventually I hope to at least try them all as well

    Im just getting one secondhand but mint! I like it even a bit better than the MI Super Blues Pro, because of the mighty bass control! Gonna stack it with Euphoria( clean tone...) !! Also Euphoria has the Mighty bass control: adds warmth however much/little you want!! so together only these 2 have HUUGE VERSATILITY!! bravo Brian Wampler!!

      Would you consider it a more balanced EQ than say Tube Screamer/Klon tope pedals?

      Oh yes absolutely. More so against the TS. Klones it’s hard to say actually, they’re different beasts.

    I have the Euphoria( still tweaking), just ordered this : for its sponginess/touch senseiness: THANKS go to Jack Fossett, whos playing runs like a fawset should, and to Brian Wampler, who has obviously taken great care of designing these "stomp" boxes:
    as a solid state amp player with some Yamaha Pacifica 112Vs tuned octave low, the more sensitive the pedal the more sensitive the playing n the Player! LOVE, Kimmo Lingonheimo ( FINLAND)

    just GOT the Pantheon!!! VERy DYNAMIC!!! I use it with very little breakup, makes you wanna bend more, ha ha,,, I use it with Euphoria, in my opinion better tha the MI Super Blues Pro or the Crossover,
    JUST LIKE Euphoria , its a DYNAMIC OD!! AND A SWIZZ KNIFE for tone sculpting!!

      Same here. I bought like 6 or 7 overdrives over last year and a couple I didn’t bond with. Sitting collecting dust. I thought I would have loved the new Soldano overdrive. I find it to be way too compressed.

  • @chipsterb4946
    @chipsterb4946 Před 3 lety

    Good point about avoiding the “every knob at noon” fallacy. With an active tone control, that might be true; however, lots of pedals have “tone” controls that are simply cuts. IOW turning counterclockwise takes away certain frequencies. That how most amp controls work, and the Bass and Treble on a Timmy work that way - cut only. Making it even more confusing, at least 2 Wampler pedals have a passive treble cut but active Bass and mid controls. The whole point of controls is to turn them until it sounds good through your rig. /rant off/

    Thanks one more time for this video.
    Have a question.
    What the difference between to change Gain switcher and the gain knob.
    Is it the same if I put a switcher in the mid gain position and higher level Gain knob vs high gain switcher with less amount of Gain knob?
    I hope you understood my question:)
    Thanks.

    Jack is the output from this pedal that different from the Wampler Dracarys? Are there not too many other variables which makes auditioning pedals a bit of a minefield?

      @@JackFossett Thank you Jack. I've never heard of that brand /model before. The reverb sounded VERY VERY good which is why I ask. This was the 1st demo of your I have ever seen. I think many can learn from how you present, and structure your demonstrations. What you choose to play also is great for listening to the various adjustments made on the Wampler. chuckled seeing your Marshall in the background, and knowing you were playing thru the tweed. I said to myself, " Myself, this guy knows what he is doing ! " use a Marshall 1962 and a 1974x, a '51 tweedy Fender deluxe & a hand wired point to point UK built Vox ac 15 depending upon the song, and guitar used.

    • @JackFossett
      @JackFossett  Před 3 lety +2

      Hey, sorry for my delayed response -- I love the Tumnus Deluxe, I've done a demo of that as well. Not hugely impressed with the J Rockett ones to be honest. I also have a DCW Pedals Klone which I like alot. The Tumnus works so well with its 3 band EQ for tone shaping, I use that one more as a tone shaper and less as an overdrive.

      @@JackFossett Never a problem we are all busy. Do you have any experience/opinion about the Rimrock Mythical OD as compared to the Tumnus ? And, before you settled in on your One Control Blue Prussian Reverb, which certainly impressed me in your video demo, what other reverbs did you consider ? I am torn between yours and the original TC Hall of Fame, which Robben Ford had turned me onto before the pandemic last time he played in NYC. Thank you for sharing your insight & thoughts. This or the Wampler Belle? I’ve got both, and found that whenever I have the Pantheon on, I end up chasing the tone of the Belle. It can do it, but it seems to just not resonate with me as much.

    • @JackFossett
      @JackFossett  Před 3 lety +1

      I’d keep the Belle then - just stylistic, they’re both excellent pedals. But sounds like the Belle just suits you more.

    • @michaelblair1867
      @michaelblair1867 Před 3 lety

      @@JackFossett kept the belle! I'm really interest in the similarities between them, because on low gain they sound so similar with a slight difference in character, though they do diverge as you increase the gain. Do you find that this is quite common? Wondering how much difference there actually is in pedals, and how much it's just understanding how to dial them in!

    • @JackFossett
      @JackFossett  Před 3 lety +1

      @@michaelblair1867 yes very much so. I mean, some pedals differ quite a bit - but to an audience? Either you have a good tone or you don’t. As guitarists we’re frequently like food critics trying to pair wine with food when most people are happy to just have a nice meal. Doesn’t mean it’s insignificant, just means we get so detail oriented and fine tuned to the sound that sometimes we can lose the big picture.

  • @michaelyolch79
    @michaelyolch79 Před 18 dny

    I never understand ODs or distortion pedals that have no MIDDLE EQ control. Guitar amps/speakers are all about midrange! And subtractive types of EQ simply don’t act the same. 😢
