Epiphone 1963 Firebird I and V - Are They Any Good?
I have Q' in my LP with vintage correct EVERYTHING including tail piece slugs. This demo shows exactly the issue i have with the high end freq's. Jupiter Bee's it is, thanks Jack
3:10 you did the Mark Knopfler money for nothing intro lick!
Guitarist missed the boat on flat response pickups like EMG active they didnât get, they said same thing you said itâs flat. The idea with a flat response pickup is that you can you EQ to get any tone you want , why because the entire frequency spectrum is available hence the term flat. BTW magnet type doesnât determine the frequency response. You might a knowledgeable musician but you donât understand the electro/ mechanical fundamentals of pickups.
I love overwound pickups, Morse dynamics, articulate and itâs like a built in overdrive controlled by the volume knob. I also like the fact that lowering volume will give you a softer tone and lower amplitude without use of the tone knob, this is why I DONâT like treble bleeds.
Iâm waiting for a delivery of the origin 50 and the half stack Marshall speakers, I canât wait to blast my strat through it.thanks for the Very nice jam đ€đ¶
I must say, I love my Vox AC30HW60 edition to bits. Build with '64 specs, so no master volume, no FX and reverb. So it is not a modern Vox. It is very laud if cranked so I do not crank it up much and play it clean'ish. I think the more direct circuit makes it "sparkle" even more. I think the alnico speakers is a must. I will give you right Jack, a Vox is not like a Fender or Marshall etc. It is its own thing. And yes a rangemaster in the front suits the amp so good.
That particular model you have is one of the best models Vox has produced in the past 20 years. They're amazing. I used to have the TV AC15 from the same series and the tone was just stunning. I miss it dearly.
@@JackFossett I agree. And I was close to get the AC15 from that series, but went for the AC30 instead. Only 150 AC30s and 150 AC15 was handmade in 2017 at the Marshall plant in London. So they are very hard to get. For me it is a keeper. Best regards from Denmark
The solution for me, is to buy a 1 watt Marshall DSL 1Cr and use a Palmer attenuator. I can play now with screaming tones in my bedroom without disturbing my neighbor. Modelling has their place, but I crave that tube compression and tone.
Texas special ?
Seymour Duncan Lipstick pickups
Being a Strat and Tele guy I wanted a semi hollow. I purchased a Sheraton ll Pro. Love the sound through my ac15 but boy,,,, itâs taking some getting used to. Tks for the vid.
Youu either like preamp distortion or not, not for me. The tube sockets mounted to the board definitely an issue as well
Jack, How about a quick lesson, if thatâs possible, on how to use these pedals to get the best tone out of our guitar. As you said there are inconsistencies in the pickups themselves so how do we dial them in ? Thanks for all of your help and patience.đ
One thing I like to do in addition to lowering pickups, which I also do, is raising the screws on my humbuckers. So I will have the pickups sitting very low in the rings, but then screw out the screws so they are a bit proud. I really like the bright, clear tone I get by doing that.
Actually... I just had another thought... Two words ... Jimi Hendrix! There were only like 3 pedals in existence at the time and he used them all. đ
Love your channel Jack... thank you for the great content. My question is, is this still a thing? In the age of modelers with every effect and amp literally at your feet, can anyone legitimately still cry about using pedals? It really seems like an antiquated way of thinking IMHO. Also, most situations do not allow you to crank up a tube amp to the level needed to get it to react the way you need it to. The only way to for most players to get something approximating a cranked amplifier is to use some outboard signal processing.
A lot of guitarists are terribly boring, yes.
just GOT the Pantheon!!! VERy DYNAMIC!!! I use it with very little breakup, makes you wanna bend more, ha ha,,, I use it with Euphoria, in my opinion better tha the MI Super Blues Pro or the Crossover, JUST LIKE Euphoria , its a DYNAMIC OD!! AND A SWIZZ KNIFE for tone sculpting!!
The Edge is the player that got me into guitar when I was 16. I'm 53 now. Having said that, I've been through many obsessions over that time. Pop, rock, blues (lots of blues), jazz, etc...But my real passion was in recording and producing music. I don't even consider myself a guitar player anymore. I think of myself as a music maker. If you're a shredder....great. If you're into atmospherics (pedals galore) then great. But for me it comes down to how does all of this serve the song. That's it.
Would a drug sniffing dog 'hit' on this speaker?
Iâm not concerned with trending opinions. Iâve owned about 10 different acoustics in 20 years of playing and my ovation isnât going away in the foreseeable future. Itâs my favorite. Sounds good but the feel is what I like, maybe because Iâm more of an electric player. I owned a couple of traditional acoustics that were real turds early on, so the Ovation was a welcome change. Definitely worth the $325 I got the Pawnshop guy to take for it 12 years ago.
The ts808 is a natural mix for bright fenders. Even many pros have used that combo
I 100% agree with everything you said here. I have massive respect for players who can get a great tone by running straight into the amp, but I also have massive respect for players who can use pedals creatively to make really musical moments. I do also understand the criticism of some about those who use effects to hide behind because, as a guitarist, it can be pretty obvious what is happening. That being said, I always recommend to my students, but put into my own personal practice as well, the idea of learning all parts completely clean before adding any effects. Thank you for the video. It was great!
I love that unit, I canât believe it donât have a headphone output
Iâve had an Ovation Balladeer for over thirty years but hardly played it for the last 10 having got a more conventional acoustic guitar. I agree with you on tone, both acoustic and electric. However, after about 10 years I noticed that the bridge had begun to lift. At this time I had little idea about acoustic guitar construction. This problem gradually got worse until it was virtually unplayable. I found a luthier who was able to repair this to a certain extent, and also cheaply. However it appears they went with fan bracing and no bridge plate. Had they gone with X braces and a bridge plate I probably wouldnât have looked for a new guitar and not found the Gibson HP series which knocks spots off the Ovation in tone and playability. The Ovation is now all art - unless someone wants to buy it from me?
I find that blues jrs sounds best with the reverb circuit disconnected, and all the other knobs dimed. Then it soars.
I have several guitars about half acoustic, 2 of them being Ovations The first got used in the early 80's; is a 12 string Deep back and traditional round sound hole, And the absolutely the best easy playing 12 string neck I've ever played, Indeed the slippery rounded back took some getting used to While sitting and plating. (But a little strip of skateboard grip tape cured that) Then about 4 years ago I got a 6 string the same style as yours. I like my ovations a lot and play them often. As far as the folks that bad talk Ovations? Well everyone is entitled to their opinion. hopefully it is an informed opinion? Fortunately the only opinion that matters at all in this area, Is my own. Truly I am not out to impress anyone with my choices of gear. And I don't give a Rats A$$ if anybody else likes my guitar, I'm was past that nonsense.
6/24 just ordered the full dc as well as the TruGlide stabilizer in case it could benefit from straighter string pull. Very excited
I have both amps, but I prefer the Pro Jr....it gets more playing time. I put a Swamp Thang speaker in the Blues Jr, though, and it sounds great. But I still love the Pro Jr
Great demo and a great feature for a great guitar.
How does the 620 compare with a Telecaster as far as being comfortable playing sitting down?
Worked for Charlie Kaman for 20 years. Own couple of 92 ovations and '80 which I gave to my nephew. Employees used to get discounts. Charlie also created Gibraltar drums
Hating stuff is boring. If you donât like pedals, donât criticize people who do. Hating stuff is boring. Stop being boring.
Music. Is. Not. A. Sport! And here a spicy take: Iâve never heard good original music from anyone who acts like playing guitar IS a sport - even if they can âshredâ Also - for the record: Amplifiers and speakers modify tone too! (With natural compression, EQ, and distortion). Purists that insist otherwise should use a DI box into a PA and tell us how good that sounds.
I want to hear music, not a recital.
I got old đThe Super is a very heavy amp. I sold mine. I now play a Blues Deluxe and a Blues Jr. Both of these amps work for most every gig I play. Both of my amps are made in the USA. Los Angeles
I agree. I think it's definitely the best Fender amp ever made. There's no doubt that this amp will bring out the true potential of a Fender guitar. It expresses the comfortable, powerful, and clear tone of a single coil. Please don't let it disappear from this world.
Pedals are not instrument accessories anymore. They are a huge business. As of January this year there are more brands than all the pedal models we had in the 2010s. It's sickening and musicians aren't buying pedals anymore because they need them they buy them because they're addicted to buying pedals, it's sad.
One of my dream guitars. I have a Sigma replica with a cutaway, and I love it so much... can't imgine how the real thing could be. I love other Martin models like the 00028 or the D28/41, but this one has a special place in my heart. I hope I can get one of these someday, they are not easy to find used at a fair price where I live, and when I find them outside the shipping costs are too much.
Sounds fantastic. Might have to follow suit! Is this after a breaking-in period?
