    Reclaimed 40 acres with the same issue. Seed with Rye for this year to help kill off the weed seed that you are bringing up with the disc then disc down next year to get seed bed In better shape for alfalfa and Timothy grass seed next year. Will give tree roots another year to rot away. Good luck either way you go and I hope you get a good seedling.

    Hey Tyson you could seed it down now I think it would have lots of time to get a good start before frost comes.
    The piles of brush what do you do with them can you burn them in the winter when the snow is on. I was talking to my neighbor today and he said his winter wheat is a write off, it was 30 inch high 5 inch heads and the rains the last 3 weeks have just flattened it so what has can harvest will be cattle feed. No matter where you farm there is problems. That ground is nice looking soil.

    Doing the same thing, except I hired a guy. Lol. Coming along nice there. Had a patch of poplars that we cleared but never broke. 20 ft tall and the quad track and disc are chewing it up. A lot of it looks like yours though that we are breaking.

    • @Northern_Farmer
      @Northern_Farmer  Před rokem +2

      Sandy soil to? This stuff is pretty easy to break...small roots...was logged 15 to 20 years ago so all the old stumps rotted out

    • @chadtosh6831
      @chadtosh6831 Před rokem

      @@Northern_Farmer about 20 acres was that taller poplar, had about 40 acres that we logged 25 years ago and piled two winters ago. That stuff was really sandy. Just went to powder being so dry. Then he’s got close to 100 acres of willow flats to disc down that we’ve had piled over the past few years and last winter. Should give me about a quarter section in all to have broke.

    Great to watch Tyson, there’s never a shortage of work around the farm is there?
    Alfalfa would typically have a great chance in the dry soil with its deep root system yet one has to wonder what effect the smoke has on the bees for pollination? Have the bees been around with all the smoke you’ve been experiencing?

      @@Northern_Farmer Why not? Everybody's saying alfalfa, but it sounds wet, and alfalfa won't do well in wet acid soil. Neither will birdsfoot trefoil, but it will be a little better than alfalfa. Won't have the tonnage of alfalfa, but it will out yield milk or meat per acre. If wildlife pressure is heavy they might pick out the trefoil, plant old fashioned reed canary grass, it is unpalatable fresh, but good for hay.
