  • The BMW 3 Series has always been the luxury sports car benchmark, and most consider the E9X generation to be the last of the best BMW ever made. Our Spotlight is on this 2009 BMW 335i Convertible.
    PRN T-Shirts now available! Check out our original designs here: teespring.com/...
    This episode was made possible thanks to Excellence Auto Acton in Acton Vale, Québec. For more information about this 2009 BMW 335i and to see the listing, visit their website here: www.excellence...
    This week on TestDrive we're looking at the class favourite, the E93 BMW 3 Series, specifically the 335i RWD convertible. We're going over all the info you need to know to better equip yourself if you're in the market for an E9X BMW and why we feel this 2009 BMW 335i is going to be a future classic. We discuss the fundamentals of this generation 3 series, and what you specifically get with the cabriolet.
    We go over the N54B30 specifications, which models received the LCI, and which got the updated N55 engine. This twin-turbo straight 6 engine produces 302 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque and comes with the 6 speed Steptronic automatic transmission, and the 6 speed manual was available. This vehicle also has some of the M Sport options, cold weather package, premium package, comfort access, iDrive navigation, rear PDC, heated front seats, and dual-zone automatic climate control.
    We jump into the 2009 BMW 335i to take it on a sport-oriented road test to see how this vehicle has held up over 11 years and 193,000+ kms. We discuss the driving dynamics, engine sound, and exhaust notes while driving with the roof down. The reasons you'll want to consider this BMW over an entry-level base model car are more than price, as the E93 offered one of the best driver experiences available for the price.
    MSRP for this vehicle was approximately $60,000.00 CAD depending on options, with depreciation we're looking at a 75% drop which is great for buyers today.
    As we wrap up our episode on this 2009 BMW 335i cabrio we go over all the common problems and issues related to the E90/E91/E92/E93 BMW 3 Series, and specifically with the N54B30 engine.

    I have a 2011 BMW 328i (E92). I bought it 4.5 years ago and it’s been very reliable with zero issues. Even the brakes and battery didn’t need to be replaced 😄. I bought it with 41k miles and now it has 75k. I’m looking to sell it soon as many BMWs start to have issues between 80 and 100k miles. However, it’s been a very good car and I will miss it because it’s the last analog BMW

      PRN_TestDrive Actually because now I have a family and children I need a bigger car like the BMW (F10). However, the F10 doesn’t have a good reliability record like the E9x. So because I have owned only japanese cars for the past 22 years (except this BMW) and I don’t think I will be lucky twice with a BMW 😄, I’m moving away from BMW to either Lexus or Genesis

    e92/93 is one of my favourite bmw ever, i dont care about the last fancy 3 series with giant screens, laser headlights...
    this one is quite simple but not old, design aged well and is quite powerfull too, with a nice inline 6 instead of an ordinary inline 4 like the new 330i.

    This generation of BMws will always be controversial when it comes to looks. I hate the Bangle butt 7 series and 6 series, the 5 and 3 are good looking. Still, while this is great performance, definitely get a extended warranty for any BMW out of warranty. I had a 2004 530i with active steering and the rack and computer and labor cost 5,000 for that item alone (thank God for extended warranty). That scared me from any BMW for ever and I recommend leasing as best path forward 😁

      This engine is definitely prone to issues, specifically with the turbos. Many say the N55 is a more reliable engine since it’s a single turbo, while others just go with the 328i for less power and less headache. Still a really fun car to drive 11 years on!

    i dunno about analogue. turbos, valvetronic, electric water pump. the e36 is really the last true analogue 3 series. arguably the e46 too. but the e9x is a stretch. also if i’m not mistaken the 12v battery in the e9x needs programming should you need to replace it which for the average driver would mean a trip to the dealer or a shop.. just to replace the battery (due to software programming)

      That's the same generation as this.................................................
      I wasn't implying the 2009 model year was the first, the E46 generation as a whole is. In 100,000+ views you're the only one that seems to have confused this.

    How would you judge this car in the winter ? being a hardtop convertible with traction control, in quebec winter too ?

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  Před 3 lety

      RWD only isn't my favourite winter setup, but it's doable. Personally I wouldn't look at one to be driven in the winter, I don't think the convertible aspect is a problem it's just the overall control. I daily drove a RWD 7 Series in the winter, if you want to do it I'd highly recommend going with a serious set of winter tires like Pirelli Scorpions.

      Poor. If you need a winter car and can only buy 1, don't buy this.

      No clue why you felt the need to post this, I can guarantee I never said this was a sedan. If anything I may have mentioned it being an E90, in place of the E93, as most people refer to any of the 4 body styles as an E90 to make things easier when discussing this generation in general. Should I have used the term 'Compact Executive Sedan', that's the segment.

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  Před 4 lety +1

      Some might say the E30 was the last, or the Isetta. The point is it’s an opinion, that’s going to be different for everyone. The F30 and succeeding BMWs are all heavily digitized with more complicated engines, electronics, and driving nannies. This E9X still gives drivers a lot of control, which I go over in this video and explain my reasoning for the title.
