Took the train from NYC to Montreal in '77 just to see them. I was only 14 and traveling on my own but my parents were hippie types and cool about stuff like that. At the venue I was seated next to a 12 year-old girl with her father. After the show I had the munchies and went to a nearby diner and saw that the cute girl and her dad were there. They invited me to their table and there was definite chemistry between the girl and I. Her name was Sarah and long story short we kept in touch even though we lived 300 miles apart and in different countries. 8 years after the concert she became my wife. To this day we still listen to TD vinyls from time to time, mostly stuff that predates Tangram, our favorite is Phaedra.
I remember I recorded this masterpiece on cassete from a radio broadcast so many years ago, not more than half an hour and advertisements included from time to time, you understand, and I still have the tape eventhough I listened to it so many times, and I shared it with some friends. Fortunately, later I could get some Cd’s and Lp’s from them… Tangerine Dream geniuses, thank you for your music and many thanks to RW for uploading it 👏👏❗️Many hugs from the end of the world 🇨🇱🇨🇱🇨🇱
I honestly wanna know, from someone living in that time, who was playing this kind of music on the radio? Today every radio either plays the same 100 80's songs (no issue there), the same 10 pop songs (ew) or the same 2 "country" songs (EW)! At what point were radio stations playing Berlin School and Ambient, and which stations? Thank you.
I bought their LP in high school in communist Romania in the '80s(paid 1/2 of the monthly wage at that time)...now they still give me chills! Ricochet was my first ''contact'' with their music, which puzzled my 15 year old brain and had to listen over and over...till l knew every vibration on that piece of art.Their first 12 years was mind blowing revolutionary. Who played the intro piano part on Monolight? Tangerine Dream does not belong to any category of music, they have no equal, they opened new gates for generations to come and gave the key for exploration to all who dare to create a new path in music history.
Froese, Franke, Baumann in their best years - True sound artists who have discovered the full potential of synthesizers and sequencers - Richard W Thank you for refreshing and presenting this concert.
What an experience that concert must have been. This double LP has to be in the top 10 desert island discs for me. I listened to it so many times as a teenager. Outstanding, haunting, unforgettable.
The live performances during the 70’s were unique because of the fact that they were totally improvised. In addition there was no front of house mixer so the sound that was sent to the PA system came directly from the instruments.
Encore is one of T.D.'s best live albums without a doubt. The last one with the classic line-up of E. Froese, Franke and P. Baumann, who left the group for personal reasons, this changed a little the direction they had taken, but perhaps they did well, taking into account that you cannot perpetuate the same thing always.
Trivia: Coldwater Canyon is a road in Los Angeles in the mountains that separate the San Fernando Valley from the part of LA that includes Beverly Hills and Hollywood. Cherokee Lane is a cross street. As I understand it the band stayed in a house in that area for a time.
Ah, The 'Golden Age' Of Tangerine Dream (The Classic TD Line Up:- Froese, Franke, Baumann) ! ! ! Thanks Richard W For Another Quality TD Upload ! ! ! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
"ENCORE" BY THE MASTERS FROM TANGERINE DREAM WAS, IS, AND ALWAYS WILL BE "ENCORE"! MY DEFINETLY "TOP OF THE LINE" ALBUM> ALL I CAN SAY IS, THIS "PLEASE , EVERYBODY , JUST LISTEN TO THE WHOLE MASTERPIECE! THIS MUSIC STILL DOES SOME "MAGIC", AT LEAST ON ME! SEE, I TOLD YOU, I CAN`T GO ON RIGHT NOW, I GOT HYPNOTIZED AGAIN BY IT! WHAT A FANTASTIC FEELING! I`M THE LUCKY ONE , O YEAH! MUCH BETTER IDEA FOR A REASON THAN EVEN "THE WHOLE WALT DISNEY`S PLANS USING ICE". REGARDS, THOMAS(THOMAS-CHICAGO).
Habe TD mit 15 Jahren das erste mal gehört war sofort fasziniert von diesem Sound ,bin heute 57 Jahre alt und bin immer noch begeistert ,liebe TD nach wie vor danke fürs reinstellen
Very nice to listen to. I heard TD for the first time in the mid 80s, bought several LP albums back then, from the mid 70s period to 1986. I still listen to it today. Pretty awesome is the piano part of Monolight, which clearly holds TD's version of A Saucerfull of Secrets by Pink Floyd late 60s. I am also a PF fan, their(TD) inspiration of PF music is very nice. With the departure of Johannes Schmoelling and Chris Franke my interests in TD ended.
Its the COOLEST album, French pressing , enveloped in the clear ,very thin plastic OUTER protective sleeve after market , bought new ,1981-2 , OUTSTANDING find in okc.....thx r. ...she sits ,under my bed, along with a 1000 others.....
The third section is something of an unheard-of bonus for me as the original 1977 Encore album had some lyrics/songs (including their cover version of Knocking On Heaven's Door).
@@neilloughran4437 I spent the last 35 years thinking the C side on my Encore vinyl LP was a Baumann thing. 🤣 But like you say, it was a pressing issue that contained material from a completely different group. I have recently bought a 1984 CD issue that contains the correct third side but I now don't know what to do with my vinyl LP.

Phaedra is an absolute classic. My favorite piece, eclipsing even Rubycon.
The sound of those analogue synths in the hands of the masters was very special.

Gracias, a me me enloquece.
They are the best of the best.
One of many of my favorite albums!
I get high and tripped with "Coldwater canyon" deliciously in space!!!!!!!!; more than 40 years feeling like that!!!!!!!
Same here lol, since the late 70's so that's almost half a century spent in far away galaxies listening to that haunting guitar.

Exactly
i have this vinyl since 1977
Monolight is just an amazing masterpiece or piece of art 😊
It's got everything from stratospheric guitar on "Coldwater Canyon" to eerie synth atmospheres on "Monolight" to everything in between.
This is they first lp that I owned from Tangerine Dream they really captured me since 40+ years ago
Me too

You have had to hike a canyon with a cold stream ... to appreciate "Coldwater Canyon." In fact, to love it.
Mellotron...just fantastic !

Yeah, only in the internet age did I actually discover this. For years I thought TD were channelling / evoking native american & wild west imagery!
Encore, and Ricochet the best albums Tangerine dream ❤
Cherokee lane... Ahhh... I love this peace of music...
Thank you Klaus for this reminder 🤗
piece not peace but music is still outstanding :)
