  • Here is a quick update on the shop! I recently installed a heating and cooling system in the shop, which took me about 2 days. It's a Rheem 2 ton air-source heat pump that's rated to 15 SEER and a matching air handler, so it should be pretty efficient. Combined it has an output of 14,200 watts(~50,000 BTU) of heat, with the heat pump putting out 7KW and the auxiliary/emergency backup strip heating putting out 7.2KW. But more importantly it is an AC unit, which will help make working in the summer less like an oven and more enjoyable. Let me know what you guys think!

Yeah he is a talkative one, gets him in trouble quite often! He's a 1.5 years old black lab, so he's still has a few years of crazy left in him and he doesn't like to be left out of doing things. Thanks for watching!

I’m getting an end of year bonus and I’m going to install a high efficiency Bradford White water heater to run radiant heaters this November and in the spring run Pex under the floor for radiant floor heat. I was originally going to get a condensing boiler but they are very expensive, require a yearly descaling, and they have mixed reviews for reliability.

That's pretty neat! You almost never see a boiler system where I live, my house uses natural gas for forced heat and hot water. Our cooling season is much longer than our heating season so we focus most on summer time cooling. Under floor radiant heat would be really nice on this hard concrete floor! I have 3 water heaters and one is a Bradford White and the other two are Rheem, I haven't had any issues with any of them. Where I live both gas and electricity are really cheap, so I have a lot of options when it comes to heating. You'll have to let me know how that goes!
