Thank you for your information.Switched to Spectrum to save money and paid the lower price for just a few months.Everybody warned me about the constant price hikes at Spectrum and I just found out that it is true. At the end of my promotional period, the monthly fee for basic internet would be $79.99 which is a far cry from the $49.99 at start up. They also charge an extra $5 for Wi-Fi. Time to switch!

    Hey bud,
I’ve had T-Mo for the longest time. I’m on a very old Grandfathered plan:
    - $30 Unlimited
    - 50GB Cap on 5G then slows down
    - Binge-On feature which means when you use streaming services like CZcams, Hulu, Netflix, etc. your Data is not counted toward the 50GB
    - Unlimited calling and text to Mexico and Canada
    - Unlimited calls and text while Roaming in Mexico and Canada
    - free Data roaming in 144 countries
    - free In-Flight hotspot data
    - 10GB hotspot data
Unfortunately where I live the signal is horrible. I use WiFi Calling while inside my home, but 10 miles radius around my home it’s 💩💩💩
I live in Carlsbad, CA. and T-Mo is horrible… mid to south of county is amazing; but north is the nicer part of SD and higher income then the rest of county.
Got any plan you can think of?

The T-Mobile guy told me that I only had 15 days to try it and I don't want to bite the bullet just yet because as soon as I approve the link it starts.
Been with Spectrum for about 15 years or so and the price has gotten ridiculous. I have 2 TV boxes, WiFi and landline. My bill started out being about $180 a month. Now my bill is up to $300 a month. I've requested them to take the DVR service off many times and they haven't even done that over the last 4 years.

    • @EB3Studios
      @EB3Studios  Před 7 měsíci

I switched to T-Mobile Home Internet from Spectrum here in Texas - just in the last 2 weeks. The speed is acceptable, and the device has been very reliable for me. (I do reboot it once a day.) I quit Spectrum because they have been unreliable in our neighborhood. If they had tried to dissuade me with the 'T-Mo slows down during peak times..." argument, I would have said - "And Spectrum has been out completely for 3 full days in the last 2 months."
Now, issues you'll need to deal with on T-Mo HI:
    1) Services that use your IP address to identify you. Certain games, and streaming services (notable Hulu) use your IP address to protect themselves against account sharing. T-Mobile HI changes your IP address dynamically. This means your "externally identified" IP address (what the rest of the world sees your IP address as) changes at the whims of T-Mobile. So services that use your IP address to identify you will have issues where they lock your account, claiming that you are accessing their services from multiple locations (even though you're still at your home).
    2) Device (Gateway) placement is key... My signal strength changes even when the gateway is still in the same spot. But if I rotate it 1/8 or 1/4 turn, the strength comes back. So if I notice a speed issue, I check the iPhone app and see my signal strength. Then if it is low, I just adjust the position of the T-Mo gateway 1/8 turn, wait 10 seconds to see if the signal improves. Then move it again if it hasn't. This tends to clear up the signal issue, which appears to correlate with the speed issues. Over time, I've rotated it back and forth several times - the strength doesn't remain the same at the same position reliably. So periodically rotating it again (back to a previous position) seems to fix it. An external antenna would probably help this, but I don't want to take the thing apart if I can avoid it.
    3) I may return to Spectrum and use the T-Mobile as a backup Internet (since I work from home, and the occasional Spectrum outages have been hampering my work). But I will switch to a cheaper Spectrum plan (I was actually on Spectrum Business, and paying a substantial premium price for it, but not getting improved service for the cost). In order to switch to Spectrum 'home' I have to wait 30-days after cancelling before they'll let me change over to their home plans. But even with both T-Mo and Spectrum combined, the cost will be less than the Spectrum Busines plan I was on...

An update on my adventures with T-Mobile Home Internet. I have been using it exclusively for about 9 months now. It is doing very well. In my neighborhood, when other neighbors complain about Spectrum being out, I'm still humming along just fine. I have purchased a VPN service (PureVPN - $2/month) to get their fixed IP address setup - for when I need it (certain work things require that I come from the same IP address, and changing the config for that every time I needed to connect was annoying). But other than that, everything has been working fine. The issues with the changing position of the box have completely gone away. I literally haven't touched it in months. I rarely reboot it now too.
I did discover one thing that made it more reliable. On my internal router, I changed the DNS servers to use Google's DNS servers. I read somewhere that T-Mobile's were flakey, and were responsible for the occasional service failures (lasting minutes only). But once I changed to the Google DNS servers, I have not experienced any outages at all.
I will say, I do not use T-Mobile's WiFi part of the box. I have a hard-wired Ethernet cable running to my home Mesh WiFi router. And that's where I setup the DNS configuration to point to Google's DNS. I do that because everything in my house was already setup to use my existing WiFi stuff, and with the Mesh, I get better coverage in all areas of my house. So I haven't needed to use the WiFi that came with the T-Mo device.

I hated their stock modem. I researched and bought a Chester modem. Fully compatible with T-Mobile plus I installed a external antenna in about 10 seconds. Now I get 500 down and 20 to 30 up. No matter what I could not make T-Mobile home internet compatible with Amazon errro mesh networks. Even with the Chester modem the Wi-Fi would drop once in awhile and devices all over the house with disconnect. I boxed up that mesh Network and then I bought Asus Routers and turn them into a mesh Network. Now my Wi-Fi never drops and everything plugged in gets ping times as low as 18. I definitely had to do the external antenna since the towers were eight miles away. I highly recommend the Chester modems to everyone that has T-Mobile home internet. I live in the country so my service never ever slows down. There is no peak times since I'm in between two small towns that both offer a cable modems at 50 to $60.

WOW, I didn't even know there was a difference based on your particular area? If I were you, I would call Spectrum and let them know that you want a "better price" for your internet; you can even tell them that you know someone in Wisconsin that pays less for their plan. Try to see if you can get it for $49.99 per month. If they won't do it, simply hang up and call again and speak to a different agent (as annoying as that is, sometimes it takes several agents until you can find one that will do it for you). You can also say that you are "considering" switching to T-Mobile internet and want them to match that price point. Best of luck!!

spectrum is the absolute WORST.. i had them for months and it was horrible it was slow, the connection would constantly drop. I switched and haven't had an issue since leaving them.

honestly with how spectrum has treated me id prefer literally anything else, the signal is constantly horrible, price is now 90 dollars a month (USD) for the lowest service, the customer service reps are almost always rude and treating me like crap, and so on.

If you just stream and watch movies yo be fine with tmobile, and it does download fast. The problem comes when playing online video games. It has really bad lag for most games where it becomes unplayable when playing online, I would recommend this for anyone that doesn't play video games

Because, A LOT of people don't know that you can call up Spectrum and ask them for a new promotional price and they will give it to you.

It's always been "Charter" Spectrum in my market and as long as people call in and ask for new promotional pricing they can get it (or else threaten to cancel, and then they will get it). That works in my area.

    • @EB3Studios

Unfortunately, this is the case with most every provider out there. It's all about providing service at the least amount of money possible for them to maintain their infrastructure.

@@EB3Studios everything is very tight in the prices of all the internet companies wired fiber 300 compared to t-mobile its possible to get more speed but it runs wireless for the same amount i can just stick with wired and the upload speeds are matched. plus that amount usually doesnt matter anymore because you can run good on 200 mgbts
