    Good video! You're the only person I've seen who sets the screens up like me with fixed car position relative to the environment so the car isn't bouncing around on the screens. I did it for the exact same reasons as you, so it's good to know I'm not insane. 🤣 It's massively valuable to the sim racing community to have the insights of a real life racer weighing in on these important topics. Thanks!

      I have it fixed as well but have my monitors fixed to the rig so they move with the motion. A belt tensioner helps feel the surge and sway effect that I might lose with having them fixed.

    Wauw! Thanks for this! I’ve watched a lot of FOV setup videos but your ‘non science’ approach beats them all!! It’s so good you point out it will be a trail and error thing and everybody should take in account that it’s all related to how you sit, how your monitors are compared to the location to your head and that’s the reason why there is no exact formula. Great job, thanks again, this helped me improve my laptimes after sitting my FOV up the way you described. Keep it up. Hope you have a video on how you set up your force feedback also so it would co-relate to your real driving GT3 experience.

    Thank you so much for this! I've been struggling with FOV trying to use different fov calculators and even following the instructions from sampsoid and nothing ever seemed to work, there was always that weird distortion. With this explanation I was able to hop into several cars and make them immediately look and feel so much better and almost instantly noticed an improvement in lap times and confidence.

    • @PatRick-rm6dh
      @PatRick-rm6dh Před rokem

      I steppes away from those calculators and worked off pictures of the cockpit for sim rig set-up and measures and scaled them up to real life and built and adapters where necessary and the FOV was like basis...what do I der in a car. What does my peripheral "Sees" and when do I turn my eyes and focus on something out of focus in the peripheral. Did some solid empirical research and I'm quite spot on now with the single 55" monitor set-up for both ACC and F1 22. It's been a journey but multiple friends have confirmed that I nailed it in reference to their set-up and "where they didn't go" in regard to the necessity or rather lack of necessity in peripheral vision when regarding the rather small cone of focus. That does not mean I haven't hot a wide enough FOV. It is realistic for a 55" to have to actually look at the race logic to see what's on. And I need to look off center to read the turn markers. But the side mirror, for my situation I don't need. It sounds wrong maybe, but it really works. I had a pit crew measured on screen at a screen distance that was certain and cross referenced that to the real world. Unless they NPC is a gnome or a giant, I'm spot on. I love the FOV debate no more since I'm happy with the work and tests I've put in it. If ever I change set-up I'm not afraid to engage again in the empirical quest of a realistic FOV.

    Thank you for your sharing how you handle Orient P (pitch) and Vanish Y (shift horizon)! Honestly I've never known what to do with them, but always thought they are important and have a big effect on the sense of perspective. That's a very simple approach but it works. I've now gone through all my cars setting Vanish Y to be about eye level and Orient P to have my hands match up with the wheel. Which is showing a hell of a lot less dash than before. But it feels much more right now. Just happy to have a method for sorting it out. Thanks!

    Great Video! I found many things similar to my FOV settings that many people don't do (cut off the dash for example, because I have a static dash mounted infront of the screens). By that, my visibile image much more matches the real steering linkage. Another thing is the tilting which I also adjust similar to you because it fits much more to the view through the windshield.

    Thanks a lot. I'm totally immersing me in ACC on PS5 and PC. Using limited resources on a high end 120Hz 4K 55" gaming TV and a solid TR80 setup for my LT DD Pro wheelbase and load sensor brake pedal set I get all the juice I need with the 11Nm. Enjoying tiring GT3 (of F1 22) races on the dry giving me the best the wheel can give to wet endurance races where you feel the lower torque intensity by not constraining the output yet configuring the in game to thé most realistic output without having clipping. I worked hours on my FOV and I feel like I named it quite good having measures up photo's of GT3 cockpits to size and scale them to my SPARCO QRT FIA certified 😅 Circuit bucket, wheel position, arms at rest, arms in wheel lock, arm wrist testing up top, feeling like I could touch the obsceen Dash and a perfect match of the sim wheel and my habds with the in screen wheel and screen hands. Horizon at eye level. Pedals to Bé operated with the ball of the foot and when depressed I don't touch the front cushion of the bucket seat. Full depression does leave a small angle at the knee. Though never happy with the idea that I'm happy with my FOV.... I'm happy with my FOV.
    Immersion is prio one. Therefor I worked and referenced my butt off to get there. It is An eye opener for the odd friend that comes over to try out my sim, coming from a tabletopmount TM or G29. They forget everything immediately after 30 seconds and are sucked in. I can tell.
    I was glad to see the take and approach of a pro driver and sim racer and I am now more than ever convinced this is about as close that I Will ever get to the real thing.😊 Thanks!👍🏻

    Great video that basically takes all of the well known FOV calculators and throws them out the window (pun intended), telling the math to go take a hike in favor of setting it up to what feels right for your particular simulator setup.
    Going to have a play around with this later to see what I can come up with, I think the P value could be useful as I've always noticed that when I use the ALT+S/ALT+W controls to go up and down in the cockpit, when I see the virtual car's actual steering column, it never matches up with the angle of my actual steering column, which means I'm not at the correct pitch, even if the FOV calculators say that it's correct.

I think a lot of people would be interested in it, including me!! You don't have to drive, just the cockpit settings where you can say, it looks like I'm sitting in it. PLEASE 🤔😇 🥰

    As far as what I would like to know about the ACC:
    - Given the physics update, how close to the real experience has this stmulator become?
    - Naturally, comparing the experience of driving a real car and its prototype in ACC
    - How different is the competition part and the fight during the race in ACC and Iracing.
    - Are the car settings in the ACC similar to the truth relative to the real experience?
    - Personal opinion: why ACC is more popular among simulators in some regions (more portals and championships, more hype and discussion of such events)
    And as usual "From Russia with Love")

    I don't know if someone said that already , but the curvature setting in iracing refers to your monitor curvature rating . You should have it in your monitor specs . For example, my ones are R1500 . This is the level of curvature of the single monitor.

    • @TheTeamStealth
      @TheTeamStealth Před rokem +2

      Yeah this, I would also add R stands for radius, for 1500R monitor, means that if you prolonged the monitor curvature enough to get a circle it would be 1500mm radius. But then, if your monitor is 1500R but you are making them 690R ish, I guess the curvature would be somewhere in between, hence maybe 850R in game settings

    Thanks. Great video. I think the human brain is brilliant in translating a sim world into a real world, but we can make the process easier by properly setting up our hardware. I have a flat triple 55' setup and I think my eyes are a little above the horizontal center line, but I can't get closer than about 37-38 inches. The one big struggle for me when I fix the car to the screen position is that the movement of the horizon is quite a strain on the eyes. Now, I wonder if it is to do with the frame rate rather than the movement itself. I thought if I can keep it above 60-70 FPS I should be OK, but you got me thinking now. Shall I turn down visual quality to increase screen performance.... ? With my setup I manage to get around 70-90 FPS on a custom resolution of 9744 x 1832 (about halfway between 1440 and 2160) The monitors have a capability of 120 Hz at 4K, but it struggles a bit in 4K. I am going to play around today. I have a AMD 5800X3D paired with a RTX 3090 Ti.

    Very helpful and cool video! I wanted to mention/correct one thing about the “900R” you mentioned about the curved screens. That value is supposed to reflect the distance from your eyes to the screen, in meters. 1000R = 1 meter physical distance. The actual monitors themselves will have a rating using that system and is listed to describe how close or far you need to be sitting from each screen to have the proper distance where every part of the entire screen would be the same distance from your eye to it. I suspect this is why you needed to experiment and landed on a setting of 850, because you’re slightly outside the listed range of these particular screens curvature.

    • @danielmorad
      @danielmorad  Před rokem +1

      I always thought the number value was representing the radius of a complete circle that the curvature of the monitor would make. It’s not eye distance to screen but rather the length it would take for the monitors to curve in a 360 degree circle. Could be wrong though. Maybe you can double check both ideas.

    • @JoeDogInKC
      @JoeDogInKC Před rokem

      @@danielmorad I think both are somewhat correct. As far as I understand it (I was looking at curved monitors recently), it does represent the radius of a circle (hence the R). However, if you’re not sitting within that same distance from the screen, then you won’t get a uniform look from your eyes to each pixel across the entire screen, if that makes sense.
      It could be that iRacing hasn’t calculated this 100% correctly or that the curvature you are achieving with 3 screens isn’t quite the same as it would be if it were all one screen (i.e. the angle where the screens touch each other isn’t absolutely perfect).

    • @JoeDogInKC
      @JoeDogInKC Před rokem

      @@nmelol yeah, I understand that’s the reason for the designation, but it has a secondary meaning/purpose as well.
      If you make a circle that’s say, 1000mm in diameter, where would be best place to be in order to see the entire circle to where you are the same distance from it, no matter where you look? In this case, 500mm would be the spot, directly in the center. The same kind of thing applies here, except you don’t need to be in the exact center to have a good view of the screens. Sitting farther away than 1000m from the screen (if it’s 1000R, for example) would result in a less than stellar experience, because it would be beyond the center of the virtual circle.

    I run a singular Curved 34 inch monitor 3440x1440. I found FOV varies by car so it does take some getting used to. Some cars I run as low as 54FOV and some I run as high as 77FOV. I also run the pitch correction like you do as I find for at least my rig the driver cockpit is always askew from my monitor to my IRL wheel. However, I tend to disagree when it comes to the headmovement in game, you keep that off but I love having it on. I think my reasoning for this is that since I only have one screen, anything that gives me a sense of movement helps provide a better experience for me since I can't turn my head IRL to look at left or right monitors. IRL you have depth by moving your head and eyes around, in sim if the camera is completely static that means you'd never have any lookahead or eyes moving due to braking zones or the car shaking, again I think that's comes down to more of a single monitor issue.

    Regarding the 0mm bezel correction: not always the case. In case you find the continuity of the picture broken at the bezels then it needs adjustment (sometimes even negative values with bezel free kit).
    This is something you need to adjust to your eyes. If the continuity is fine, then the value is right. If you can see a break on the dash/a-pillar/whatever at the bezels, then an adjustment is needed.

    • @Moszkito

      And regarding the radius of curvature: i'm not sure how iracing calculates, but it can be two things: curvature of the individual screens (check the specs of the screen you are using), or the radius of curvature of all screens around you: then it should be around 690-700, since thats the exact radius of the circle that you can draw if you want to place your screens in a circle.

Cause the neo 3 link with displayport doesn't require the extra hardware workload to encode/decode the data, and it doesn't compress the image. Resulting in much lighter hardware requirement and better image fidelity.
