It's a show, not a movie, but My Mad Fat Diary is about the "ugly" girl getting the guy! (Not that I think Sharon Rooney is ugly, she's gorgeous, but it's the basic premise of the show lol) It's one of my favorites, I'd definitely recommend it. The characters are teenagers though, unfortunately, if you're looking for something more adult-oriented.
a decade ago Anne was in a movie called Song One, where this women falls in love with a musician. It is good and a little more believable.
