They understand of course that losing to City ruins their CL chances but they don't care, because for them preventing Arsenal from winning the title is more important. That's how they feel, that's how much this club rivalry means on a psychological and emotional level. Also, Spurs isn't a team right now that's equipped to go far and do well in the CL, so there's not much difference if they are in the CL or the Europa League next season.
