    Everybody is always making fun of how Hayden delivered his lines so flat, but I really do think he's doing that purposefully and perfectly. Listen to how he delivers his lines in the movies vs in real life. When he's playing Anakin you can hear this distinct drawl that is very akin to James Earl Jones'. Such as the lines "You will try" or "My powers have doubled since the last time we met Count".

      Yeah he intentionally mimicked the way Jones talked in the OT

      No no that explanation won't do at all. Even if that were the case it is conveyed in such a way that it sounds wooden rather than deliberately evocative of JEJ. It's Lucas fault for the script Hayden probably didn't know how to read them. A colder voice would've gone down better for the movie.

    • @absolutezero523
      @absolutezero523 Před rokem +66

      @@JacenSolo0 he gets the colder voice from the mask (lore-wise) and also Anakin wasn't evil at that point, he just talked with the same drawl as JEJ, which was flat. The flat voice was what made Vader so ominous: he talked simply, but the deep voice made it pop. Hayden did not have the deep voice, but he had the same flat drawl.

    • @JacenSolo0
      @JacenSolo0 Před rokem +13

      @@absolutezero523 Then why is it by the end of his life he retains the sharp,clipped vocals when he is unmasked ? If that's what Hayden Christensen was going for I.e. imitating the monotone nature of Vader then he really didn't get it very well at all. Would've been better if he tried to soften out his American accent and obviously Lucas should have given him lines more suitable for someone who's transitioning into Darth Vader. Not quite sure what you mean by drawl. I don't think JEJ had any particular drawl and it certainly wasn't like Anakin's.

    • @absolutezero523
      @absolutezero523 Před rokem +14

      @@JacenSolo0 just the way he accents different words when he speaks from those that a normal person would. Ex: "you will try." A normal person would accent the word "try," while Christiansen, like JEJ, accents "will."

    we are sooooooo incredibly lucky to have yet another go around with the voice of Darth Varder, James Earl Jones. who in his most senior age of 91 has yet again had the strength and power to reprise his role as Darth Vader. My only gripe about the whole starwars property is that they dont acknowledge the man as they really should.

    James Earl Jones is one of my all-time favorite actors. From serious roles like being the voice of Vader to comedic roles like the King of Zamunda and appearances on The Big Bang Theory...............There is never a dull moment with him!!
    Once he goes to the "Upper Room" there should be a Vader statue within Disneyland and Disneyworld in honor of him!! In the meantime, Id LOVE to meet him one day

      You are right. CH delivered a perfect disturbed youngster/young adult who is struggling to balance the childhood he had, the immense power he feels and yet the uncertainty around him. And the council keeping him at arms length because of yoda's 'fear'.
      Anakin is struggling and does not know who to trust therefore he is reserved around everyone. He plays the role to arrive from a young prodigy to the strongest Sith to ever walk that galaxy. Just think about the internal struggle when Palpatin asks him to kill Doku... his face tells everything...
      C Hayden did an amazing job imho

      No disrespect intended to Hayden, but frankly he just doesn't have the gravitas or the skill to adequately portray a character that is so restrained the way JEJ's voice and Prowse's acting made Vader. It always comes off very forced and wooden, but not in the right way.

    So many good lines bur this bit of dialogue and the way he says "Sister" always remains with me somehow:
    "Give yourself to the Dark Side. It is the only way you can save your friends. Yes, your thoughts betray you. Your feelings for them are strong. Especially for... sister. So, you have a twin sister. Your feelings have now betrayed her, too. Obi-Wan was wise to hide her from me. Now his failure is complete. If you will not turn to the Dark Side... then perhaps she will!"

    That was a brilliant splicing job done by Lucas. Combining Prowse's imposing physical build, with Jones's commanding and intimidating vice was nothing less than perfection. Jones made the character iconic, and he underestimated the importance of his contribution to the role. He would definitely be a hard act to match and follow
