- I did a 3 day water-only fast, eating nothing and drinking water. This is my experience of prolonged intermittent fasting and why I do these prolonged fasts every 2-3 months. We'll cover some of the science of prolonged fasting, including ketosis, autophagy, and more.
This video is not medical advice and is for informational purposes only. This is just me documenting my experience and the benefits I perceive. Always speak to your doctor before starting any type of fast or making any modifications to your diet.

I’m at the end of my first ever 72 hour fast, and feel fine 🤷🏻♂️.
Word of advice: DON’T TELL PEOPLE. People lose their minds and can’t wrap their heads around the concept, so just keep it to yourself and save yourself the time, energy, stress and aggro
Yeah I’ve almost freaked out at a couple of my friends who wouldn’t stop telling me it’s dumb to not eat and I don’t tell them anything anymore. They think you have to eat every two seconds or you die apparently
@@AwesumVideo ikr-
So True. People think you will die if you don't eat for a couple days because they've been conditioned to believe that. Not true at all. Water fasting is a great benefit to our health.
@@AwesumVideo But is real. It 's not healthy.
So true ! Stay silent about it , I’m on. Day 2 I took some vitamins , d3, vitamin c and electrolytes. Doing ok not great but pushing through . This is my second time doing a 3 day fast.
"I did a 3 day water-only fast, eating nothing and drinking water." No you didn't. Bone broth is not water.
Correct. Break a fast with bone broth. Plus, 1 hour is not a hike, it’s a stroll. Put salt in your water. Electrolytes deplete in ketosis.
Bone broth breaks your fast. You didn’t fast.🥴
broth is meat water
There's one born every few minutes 😂😂 Bone-broth certainly breaks a fast.
Tallow and lard etc is ok to consume so not to break a fast.
Dislike 👎
Heard enuff..."do not recommend channel"
Exactly. Kafein also worsen the mood and mental stability hours after consumed while fasting.
I did a 5 day fast and I remember waking up full of energy and my mind felt sharp and clear. i felt some Euphoria.
Did 7 days and I have never been that connected & active yet relaxed energy
That's how I feel rn only like 12 hours in but I just felt like a bolt of energy and just wanted to start working out! Like some times I have to force myself but this time I just got up and did it, and then I did it again😭🤣
@@pjjr-yz2ij Keep it up 👏
It's such an insanely relaxing feeling. Did my first 24 hour fast, going to prepare myself to do 72 hours.
Hello, do you maybe know what app he used to track he's fast
I lost so far 24 pounds I do 18 , 20 , 40 and 72 hour fasts in 6 week. I was prediabetic. My reading are lower than 80 when normally I was 108 on the mornings. My father passed away on Christmas day of diabetes complications.... much love to all.
Sorry to hear man. Well done on your journey
@@mugzy07 33 pounds off! This stuff actually works!
Congrats man. Good work
Can you explain how you did the fast?
Sorry to hear about your dad. May God bless his soul
Pro tip. Tell people you are fasting for religious reasons and then don't specify. No one ever wants to argue with that lol
why lie? when you can go to Jesus Christ he isn't a religion he is a man and God himself repent and believe he loves you! GBY!
Ahh yes, tell people you are starving yourself because of your delusion of a sky daddy told you to do so, that will make everyone stop questioning your sanity!
First 72 hour fast.. Nearly there. On day 3! 10 hours to go! Thank you.
How was your experience
Im currently on day 3, it’s 3pm. 9 hrs to go. I think I just caught my second wind and hunger went away
I’m 8 hours and 4 min from completing my first 72 hour fast! Today was the worst for me…
I've done three 72 hours fasts over the last 2 years. I think they are very good for you. My only advice........never trust a fart after you end the fast!!
Why????
I do this once a month every month and it always has wonderful benefits ❤ I always look younger and loose a few pounds once it’s over. The bloating of my stomach goes down. Yes then do keto only diet once eating starts back up. I lost 30 pounds within 4 months doing this when I was younger. Now that I’m 51 it’s harder to loose weight but the fasting still helps cleanse your organs and helps reduce inflammation pain. I never get hunger pains. The water makes me feel full.
I'm in my mid-40s on my 2nd day. My stomach hasn't growled much. I'm on carnivore.
But fasting screws up everyone’s ability to spell…words like lose for example 😂
Great vid. I regularly buy and make my own broth when not fasting, however only drink water and some black coffee during any type of fast. Wouldn't the broth be detrimental to the fast as it contains fats and calories thus essentially breaking your fast? I actually finished my 3 day fast today with a cup of homemade beef bone broth before eating food a few hours later 👌🏻
Bone broth breaks the fast according to the experts. It is great for coming off of a fast.
I did water fasting for 9 days twice a year, and it's all true, losing weight is just one factor, you feel like your body has been reprogrammed .
I'm on day 2 after completing 3 day fast. I feel very reprogrammed! I love it.
I also started for the health benefits, but gaining that level of will power and not being controlled by hunger like you mentioned was a surprisingly powerful bonus.
How much did you lose?
Hell, my family gets ansy when I fast or just eat Keto. They're always pushing carbs and desserts on me. I started Keto at 69 y.o. and 250lbs. I'm 74 now, still 75lbs lighter and I lost all my old age symptoms.
Hey, any update?
Are you still alive?😅
Really well done sir x
I am at the end of day two and it’s true about sharing. People don’t know how to accept this and think your going to drop dead right in front of them! Don’t share what you don’t need to tell them.
I do a 24-38 hour fast every week. Initially it was tough but now they’ve become easier
What do you do it for? Health, weightloss, etc?
@@MusicBoxAlsoWater both health and weight loss
I just started fasting for lunch everyday and I feel much better I’m not sure I could do three days but I love hearing your perspective and experience ☺️🙏🏽
I started working out recently and i wanna try fasting but should i also do workout alongside this type of fasting as i heard many people say that you will faint while working out without any food so i just asked
@@Ken-bh1oz that could be true for some but it is not recommended that you fast and workout at the same time it will make you feel exausted and lethargic. It is better to take walk or mild exercise doesn't hurt👍
@@Ken-bh1oz you can try HIIT and usual walks cause if you push yourself you'll activate cortisol in your body that raises insulin and will make you hungry.
@@Ken-bh1oz I would say just drink 5 protein shakes a day with unsweetened almond milk with my favorite protein powder iso 100 coco pebbles flavor I would drink 5 of those a day when working out I would also put creatine but that is optional because it will make you weight 2 pounds over your actual weight but you build muscle faster and become stronger when you take creatine but it’s. 50/50 with it you’ll loose the 2 pounds when you stop taking the creatine but yea that’s was the ideal diet I did and lost 60 pounds in a month weight lifting 4 times out the week 2 times a day and cardio one day and 2 days of rest.
fasting dinner would be better.
Your mental strength is admirable, you’re an inspiration
I was one of the hardcore skeptics about waterfasting. Long story short, I tried it out. First time only lasted 2 days, I'm sure my body was really stunned at what was going on. 2nd try, it went through 4 days and I only stopped because I had a family gathering (not eating would be considered as sinful as a genocide).
It was amazing really. I decided to try it just for weight loss (fat, not muscles) and I didn't expect all the other benefits. I focused better on my job, zero hunger (past 36 hours into the fast), and get this, my skin began to get smoother and the few acnes I had immediately gone poof. Like no acne for months now (I usually get at least 2 acnes monthly). Have fasted for a total of 6 times with average of 4-5 days, and I do it once if not twice a month now.
For those interested in the weight loss, it also did me wonder. After 3 months, about 14 kg (mostly fat I'm sure) was dropped. And there are some studies that show fasting doesn't decrease your metabolism, so much much better control after hitting the body weight/fat percentage target. Basically, like ketogenic in principle but for a dude like me who can't be bothered to prep proper meals.
Fitness level? Oh damn sure Im fitter than ever, even gained strength in my lifting exercise.
Carbs? I do still eat them but definitely not as much as I did before, this definitely gave a reboot to my past horrible appetite.
In the middle of my own 72 hour fast before Thanksgiving. 36 hours in and feeling great. Key is definitely putting a little salt in the water. Keeps the headaches at bay for me.
You’re not supposed to fast and then have a big meal right after. Opposite effects than what you want
Drink spring water is key
I always feel amazing day 2 and 3.

@@enricopallazzo3244when do you start feeling bad?
I am regularly doing OMAD (One mean a day) and people really have a wrong perception of hunger, more like that it necessarily has to be unpleasant. I actually quite enjoying the fasting hunger. It feels really different from that junk food starvation that people are used to feel.

It’s good to note, for anybody who may be wondering, what he’s doing is what some would call a dirty fast. The bone broth has calories which would make it not a clean fast (no caloric intake). There are still benefits of a dirty fast, it’s just worth noting.
Yes bone broth breaks a fast so it's not clean fasting
It all comes down to calories out vs in. Bone broth "breaks a fast" but not for long, you easily burn through those calories and very quickly since you're not taking anything else in. You literally HAVE to burn your fat stores when you need 2000 (at least) calories per day just to function. 40 damn calories of bone broth does not hurt a fast.
I did a 30 day fast in 2015 and lost 35 pounds. I felt amazing. Now I'm keto and I love this lifestyle!!

@@MisterSkitso I break my fast at noon on that day by eatiing some fruit. So its easier on your stomach. I stuck to vegan options maybe a smoothie or whole fruit. I mostly did grapes or a melon. typically that was enough to sustain me for the day because honestly you aren't hungry. Sometimes I would eat later and that would be a salad or some kind of carb, rice or quinioa with some veggies mixed in. I did it for 1 month and lost 22lbs

I will begin today a full a 3 day water fasting now because I am frightened to death for some tokens of early developing cancer ( I have a pigmented spot on the skin near my belly and it could be Acanthus Nigricans ,which is likely to be even a token of cancer of some inner organ!).By eating nothing ,but truly nothing besides water I have a slight hope that this pigmented spot will go away and with it also my dread for cancer. Good luck !

I started a 20/4 IF cycle about a year ago. My window opens at 4pm. My hormone spikes usually do not show up at all in the morning, so it's so easy not to eat. Then I lean on keto. Weight stable now for 10 months.
After a 3 day fast the feeling of having food in your mouth and chewing is amazing 👏

Great content , thank you !
I’ve heard that any nutrient that you consume, can interfere with autophagy . Is there anyway to tell , if the bone broth or supplements are having a negative effect on your fasting ?
Great job overall. Multi-day fasting is no joke. My only beef is with that broth. Technically, that was the end of the fast...10 calories per serving is 10 calories
Technically he’s not fasting , but 10 calories won’t stop he’s body from having the benefits of fasting. He’s ketone levels kept rising, indicated by stable blood glucose levels. That means his blood glucose wasn’t stable due to 10 calories but due to ketone levels rising which rises due to starvation/fasting.

Hindus have been fasting for more than 3500 years before the quran was written.
Now it doesn’t seem to be so special.
Why do Hindus fast?
According to the scriptures, fasting helps create a blissful bonding between “individual spirit” and “The Supreme Spirit - The God”. The aim of observing fast is to purify the body and mind to acquire divine grace. For the last thousand years, most Hindus celebrate fasting.
• To develop God-awareness or become closer to God.
• To purify the mind and body.
• To celebrate rituals or religious festivals.
• To boost stamina and to nourish physical health for long life.
• To train the mind and to strengthen the body to endure and to face difficulties and not to give up.
Crazy, I'm on day 3 of my fast right now and I have no idea how you found over 21 minutes to talk about. I couldn't describe my experience in more than 2 minutes.
Some people were just born to talk endlessly into a camera 🤷🏻♂️
Dunno how CZcamsrs do it
If you have a lot of information and perspective you will talk much longer.
You couldn't describe 3 entire days for more than 2 minutes? That doesn't seem normal.
@@xsullengirlx of course I could. I’m saying 21 minutes to describe a 3 day fast experience when I could describe my 3 day fast experience in 2 minutes is reaching… but you already knew that
Here's how mine went. I was super hungry then I wasn't hungry but I couldn't wait to eat food again. I so craved chewing on something again. Then after breaking my fast with bone both and some light foods I shit my brains out lol
I also do 72 hours water fasting every year. And can relate him how it feels when we eat food after fasting.
I did my first 7 day fast a couple months back. Coffee only, plus electrolytes as mentioned. Went well. Will probably do again, perhaps longer. I approached it by reminding myself up front I was trying to improve my health, not jeopardize it; to that end, I would be mindful of how I felt, and resolve to end the fast at any time if I started feeling off.
I like hearing what people do to stay on track. Telling yourself it’s to help your health keeps you from giving in to cravings.
I just finished a 1.5 day fast. It's harder after getting married. Last fast was 40 days, only water. I got really skinny and things were harder but meh. At the end I stuffed my face at 4am so fast I think I formed an esophageal pouch :/ . Stay careful guys.
You really did a 40 Day water fast? Holy shit
I was just wondering. I thought that if you didn't get the vitamins from food everyday you would eventually start losing hair and your teeth will become loose. I'm excited to try this and want to see if it helps my kidney disease, gout, and high blood pressure. Also, should I take a multivitamin while doing a week water fast?
Kevin, why do you drink bone broth during your water fast? Given the protein in bone broth (5g in a cup, on average, so 10g for you in a day of fasting), wouldn't this activate the mTOR signaling pathway and prevent autophagy, one of the big benefits of an extended fast?
Even I wondered... And I notice how people obsess over what they will take and not take during and after the fast, which tells me that we are really slaves to our bellies. He did OK. Better next time I hope
Dr. fung said that it's ok to drink bone broth while fasting if it helps you to fast longer
@@marish... Well, it may help you fast longer, and there are many benefits to be had, but if you drink bone broth, the amino acids will likely stop the autophagy impact of fasting. I fast primarily for autophagy, so wouldn't drink bone broth while fasting (quite separate from the fact that I'm pescetarian!).
Kevin, Doesn't the protein in bone broth ruin the autophagy\ketosis for your fast?
It ruins autophogy but ketosis is achievable just by eating no carbs

I have really bad MCAS and everything I eat causes lip, throat, and/or throat swelling and the only thing that helps is prolonged fasting. The only problem is that when I get to day 3-4 my blood sugar drops to dangerously low levels and I need to consume something small. I'm not diabetic. Why is this happening? I've been trying to complete a 7 day fast to see if I can do an immune reset, but the same thing happens every time. Doctors are of no help. I lost a lot of weight because I was hardly able to eat for months. I started to feel a little better and gained weight back and feel it's a good time to try to do a prolonged fast again as I'm at the point again where I can't eat anything without swelling. Do you have any suggestions on avoiding the blood sugar drop? I've been doing electrolytes. I don't know what else to do. It's been almost a year of dealing with this crap and I'm so tired of it.
My whole life I have been intermittent fasting and I never knew it. My doctor did blood tests said my HGH is really high... So I'm used to going without food my 1st meal of The day has always been around 1 or 2 pm.
I did a water fast for the first time 3 days I put salt in my water and just drink water for 3 days. But made sure the water was reversed osmosis!!... I felt great Did get a little weak lethargic I never had bone broth during my fast it's my understanding that it breaks the fast. I believe electrolyte's (salt), green tea, and coffee is permissible. I lost 10 pounds! I'm thinking of doing it again in a few days. Maybe pick this up as a routine once a month or once every couple months. Thank you Kevin For providing such a Great video!
Nearly at the end of a 3 day fast. If it wasn't for weight training making me exhausted I could probably do longer. The issue is you want to do weight of training during a fast as to prevent muscle loss (I suspect it's more important on a longer, 3+ day fast, but it's still worth it). Still, I want to eat something healthy and nutritious. This is the beauty of fasting. So long as you can have willpower to not instantly want to end it with a treat, it helps you crave regular food, and not junk food.
B vitamins decrease autophagy which might be alright normally but may reduce some of the non-linear benefits of fasting on autophagy
All B vitamins?
Hi, I’m curious on your thoughts on the Starch Solution by Dr McDougal? I have high cholesterol right now around 211 and need to loose 35 more pounds. Have been doing a lot of fasting and cut out dairy and meat and processed food and most bread lol but not sure how long I can eat rice potatoes and veggies. What diet or how much or what kind would you recommend for someone needing to lower their cholesterol? Thanks
I would focus on any whole foods, beans legumes, seeds, whole grains. Once you diversify you realise how much food you can actually eat :))
i'm on a 72 hour fast now. at 48 hours and i have not been able to even think about biking lol maybe i made a mistake to not do that the first morning but i wanted to prolong my not hungry feeling the first day. haha walking a little when I have the energy. sparkling water is such a treat! :)
I slept well the first night but got a little sick. first day I didnt think about food and wasn't that hungry but oh man this second day i've been dreaming of what i'll eat to break the fast and for some reason i know my first thing will be avocado with sea salt and nutritional yeast :)
doesn't bone broth break the fast?
Hi Kevin, i have a question for you. Is it safe to do longer cardio sessions while fasted or it can be dangerous in regard to the hypoglicemia? Is there a possibility to faint ?
No !!
Yeah just carry on like everything’s normal. I’m sure it’ll be fine 🤨
I stopped looking at the clock too much or any kind of timer when i fast because it tended to make me shift my focus to when i was going to be "done" rather than just existing in the current time. Time goes by either way but something about looking at timers has that whole watching a pot boil effect (for me) what ive done lately is after dinner i go to sleep like normal than in the morning when i wake up i count that time as when my fast starts so in my head im thinking 36 hrs from now and if i break it a few hours early its actually been over 36 hrs. I noticed when i pay attention to the time its too easy to rationalize maybe stopping it a few hours short so i have to trick myself haha
Where do you get a CGM? I see patches online but there's a device you buy as well correct?
it's tough sometimes but it is like an unusual metabolic puzzle we must learn to be well. thank you
I did the water fast for 3 days only. My plan was to fast for at least a month. I did not feel hungry at all, and I was feeling so determined to keep going. The third day, I started feeling body ache, no energy, I could hardly get up.
The third day was my monthly doc appointment, when they checked my blood pressure, it was extremely low, he asked me if I was drinking enough water and I was probably drinking more than I should...They run an EKG, it was fine. he said to try adding pink salt and ACV to my water which I was doing already.
Driving back from his office, I started feeling extremely exhausted, blurry vision, I parked somewhere as I couldn't see. I had to get something sweet, thinking my blood pressure dropped again (it does drop sometimes)
Today is my second day after the 3days water fast and my stomach has been hurting and messed up.
Can someone please tell me what was I doing wrong? why my stomach is hurting?
I want to pick up where I left and fast again but I'm anxious about the whole experience. Any advice?
I Admit that I didn't do a lot of research about the subject and didn't know much.
Thank you!
Just do 3 days then or one day a week. As long as you are fasting then don't panic if you can't do 10 days in a row. Everyone starts out wanting to do alot of days , sometimes you achieve it sometimes you don't. Just as long as you fast frequently and you are moving towards your goal be happy.
Salt and potassium. Your electrolytes are all out of wack there's a certain formula for salt and potassium you should have.
@@cineplexaustralia Thank you very much.
@@WestSideBarson Thank you very much
@@passionate2917 have you tried their suggestions? If so, how did it work out? Etc
Doesn’t bone broth have calories and amino acids? So they would produce an insulin response and you wouldn’t really be fasting if you consume them? Or is there a specific type of bone broth you use that just has electrolytes?
10 calories per cup
@@kevinjubbalmd so do you drink 1 cup of bone broth?
@@kelliyunge6863 bone broth breaks a water fast. it's okay to have bone broth if you're intermittent fasting though
I never did 72 hours, but did 48 and I am used to 23/1 OMAD and it always worked wonders for me.
Doesnt the bone broth actually take you out of the fast? As it has some fats/calories?
Hour 55 is day 3... bone broth is not a water fast. Im confused
Loved the video thanks for making it. Kimchi and sardines :D sounds like a solid meal to me.
Doing a 3 day water fast. It's best to just do cardio, not a lot of heavy weights at all.❤❤
Thanks for this; I'm going thru my first fast. I enjoyed this.
Great video bro. I'm at the end of a three day fast right now and I've felt everything you explained.
congratulations you did it :) 💓
Hello, do you maybe know what app he used to track he's fast
The main problem for me when fasting more then 1 day is that my arms and feet becomes very cold.
I relate
The same
I'm 51,I've been an athlete my whole life,I still have a 450lb squat,when I do a 3 day fast I do water,diet soda,and coffee with cream and sugar,it works for me
Thanks for the video. I think your video is very helpful for me. 😉 subscribed! 👍
When fasting, I notice my dreams are more memorable. I MIGHT have as equally vivid or adventurous dreams when not fasting. But I don't remember them. When fasting I remember them more. And they are more more detailed. Makes me wonder if our modern garbage diet is "insulating" our synapses, and minimizing our memory and mental acuity. 🤔
I do a 72-hour twice a month! I’m in one now and will break tomorrow afternoon
I am in the third day of my first 72 hour fast and I had forgotten until this morning that 6 hours before I compete it I have reservations at Gordon Ramsay's "steak". I bailed on it around 9 hours before completion to have a small meal so I don't get sick eating this evening. It was easier than I thought honestly for the time I stuck to it, but I will try again in a couple days. Kind of hard to miss this meal. I'm a little disappointed because had no intentions of stopping before my goal... I'll try again soon. No more reservations.
Don't you feel nauseous taking Vit B supplements on an empty stomach? Also won't bone broth break a fast?
Im at around 250 pounds, I don't look quiet like it, but one can clearly see that I am overweight in that sense.
I'm at hour 48 of my water fast now, I never did anything like this before and I can't even tell why I did it. Something just made me do it spontaneously after midnight 2 days ago watching youtube. My eating habits are very bad. I love to basically eat all night until 2am when I go sleep. I only drink coke and sweetened coffee for around 15 years now. No water, ever. I always knew how bad it is, but for some reason I started this fast out of nowwhere. So I kept going, first night was pretty bad, woke up 3 times couldn't sleep. The day after was actually pretty good until the evening where the hunger kicked in like crazy again. Now im sitting here 3am after waking up again trying to sleep. My gut does hurt a bit and I was sweating. I start to feel a bit better now and I will keep going for at least 60 hours. That's my end goal.
I also can't stop thinking about my favourite pizza guy's Pizza.
Someone in the comments gave the tip to not tell anyone that you do a water fast, I can relate now. My brother and my mom went crazy on it.
You can tell people afterwards, I guess.
Add salt to water or electrolytes continue with ur meds and vitamins
Whats ur results now?
Keep going. I lost close to 100 lbs fasting. I'm on a 96 hour fast right now and will be reaching my goal weight soon. This will be the first time of my life where I will reach my goal weight and it was all from fasting.
I'm on day two of my water fast and I feel good
I did a 48 hour fast, drank 80 ounces of water each day but my urine was extremely dark. Is this normal?
Keep fighting on.
I'm trying to go on a 3-day water fast and I'm 15 years old but it's so hard because i love binge eating, I'm just wondering how I can control this?
You should talk to your doctor bc with disordered eating this kind of huge swing can be a triggering event. Or talk to a trusted person like a school counselor or therapist to help if it does.
I definitely don’t recommend fasting as a solution to binge eating. I would say counselling and stress management
the way you appreciate the first bite after 3-day fasting!!! lol
So if someone wants to fast 72 hours, what kind of substances do they have to use supplements for? I'm guessing magnesium since you mentioned it, then what else?
Potassium and sodium.
Do you ever get a headache after eating the first few time ending a fast?
I doing fast again. My goal is 25 days. My longest fast was 23 days. I lost over 100 pounds so far since my highest weight.
I did this fasting. And I am a 3-5 cups of coffee drinker a day. But, I did motivate myself hard and survive those 3 days without kafein and anything else. Just pure water. No nightmare. A lil bit tired and weak feeling are expected. So, I move on. Now, I don't need kafein anymore to feel energized. I stop eating a lot of sweets. Fasting make me realize I don't need all of that and still can feeling good. Most of the time, I found people fail to do the 3 days fasting is because they do it with not full commitment. They give themselves just a lil bit slack. Like that kafein withdrawal prejudice. But, that lil bit and tiny slack is enough to ruin all of the effort. Why jeopardize 72 hours of efforts just for some unhealthy slack? That's my way of thinking when finally and successful did the 3 days water fasting.
Good job. I'm on about hour 58 my first-ever 72 hour water fast. I've been doing only water few drops of fresh lime juice and a bit of Himalayan pink salt. I'm surprised to hear that you use bone broth throughout your fast. Isn't that kind of cheating?
Confused... if it's a water fast only, why are you hving bone broth? Thnks.
