    I make the force card become a key card when I miss the force. I tell the spectator to take their chosen card and while they're looking at it, I separate the deck where my break is(remembering where the key card is), then have them place the card back, and then place the other half of the deck on top. Their chosen card should be next to the key card. You can do an overhand shuffle after if you like and the cards should still be next to each other.

    I personally avoid the classic force precisely because there's always a chance of failure, even for a practitioner at your high skill level. But I also dislike the laziness of riffle and dribble forces. I prefer the participant to have a genuine free choice, but then use one of various methods to show them a different card. One method I use is similar in principle to one of your "adjustments" here, the only difference being I actually aimed for failure, knowing I would swap out the selection.
    Great tutorial vid, as always!

    I started praticing classic force with a trick where you need to force a duplicate. The duplicates are both together so it gives a better chance of success. I also do the adjustment if the spectator chose one card before the one i want. So it's a 3 cards chance of success i would say. And i still can go with another trick or find a way to repeat the force as mentioned in the end of the video :)
    Also i would say one should use a classic force even when not needed, just for practice purpose.

    If your first force doesn't take,you could say something like "Okay, but would you like to change your mind?" or" would you like one more or one less?Even if they say "No" you could make a face or a joke as if they're making it harder for you,and go on to a different force or a failed ambitious card with a double lift to give them the forced card and pull off an impressive switch...(I am not in any way a performing magician so probably don't know what I'm talking about,but sometimes options like this would,I imagine help in a performance situation) Love your work,Alex,so keep them coming!

    Really helpful tips! This will help me no end if the spectator misses my Force Card by a few cards. You could maybe have a Duplicate Card next to your Force so would give you an extra chance of hitting the Force. Also if the routine allowed for the Suit to be eliminated and was only after a value of card you could have all four values next to each other and have plenty of room to even do an adjustment if needed. But that's only if the suit didn't matter. 👐♣️♥️♠️♦️

    This is awesome. I've never used the classic force because I don't know how to actually practice the classic force. My wife is not supportive of me learning magic: Thinks it's childish. So I can't practice with her, and my daughter is not quite old enough yet for me to practice on either.
    However, these tips are awesome because they answer situations I know will happen often if I was to just "go for it." But I would love a video describing how to actually practice the classic force when you don't have a support group to practice with

    You can move your break to below the force card and then do the gary ouellette touch force instead. This works well if they choose a card above the selection, but it can also work even if it's a card below the selection.

  • @michaelfreeman1066
    @michaelfreeman1066 Před 3 lety

    another thing that kind of gives you a better chance of getting the force if they pick the card next to the force is hold the two out and say "left or right": from here, they either pick the force, or you hand them the force anyways with the logic that you gave them the card on your left or right. now they are a lot less likely to say oh no I meant the card on my right not your right, and if they do, then you can start over.

    I think a good tip is if they pick a card 3 or 4 cards away from the force card, you can outjog it and put it on top of the force card while you say, "This card?" Then you can perform the double lift and go on with your trick.

  • @CalebSlie
    @CalebSlie Před 8 měsíci

    Another thing is if they choose way off the force card and you loose track of where it is, you can say that you are going to make a prediction and go through the deck until you find your force card, then you just cut the force card to the top, do a double, "pretend" like you messed it up and try and force again.

    When they go for a card way higher than the force card, I just do a Classic Pass works all the time if your Pass is clean.
    When they do not go for a card when the force card comes, i do a Spread Cull with it and go for a Cull force.

    There is a force where I go on cutting packets on their hand or table while I'm having my break below the force card and they generally say stop at the 4th or 5th packet , that is also little bit similar concept like the classic force but now it is done by cutting the deck

    • @superchef78
      @superchef78 Před 3 lety

      That’s Hofzinser’s Drop Cut force. I consider it slightly more surefire, but this is coming from someone who has never broken in or consistently used the classic force at all, so of course I consider it such. There’s something about the drop cut force that’s maybe more convincing than say the riffle force, and there is something stunningly elegant about it that goes beyond my ability to describe!

    Dear Alex,
    Is it possible to create a short card routine using both impromptu deck tricks mixed with packet tricks? Is that something that can work or should you just create with a planned out impromptu set of tricks? Some of my favorite effects are packet tricks...Wild Card, Color Monte, Sympathetic Aces, etc. I was just wondering. If the answer has to wait until your site is completed, that’s fine. I just need an expert opinion. Thank you.

    Can you make a video on how to spread the cards properly? Most of the routines start with 'touch a card' or 'pick a card' and i just don't the spread systematic. I like the second line, I would just overly exaggerate it more. Like really stare at it.

    Is it okay to switch decks between the tricks? You know. You've got trick prepared on one deck but u prefer to do tricks on the other?

      really depends on your presentation i would imagine. if you can present it in a way that seems natural and not contrived then i would say go for it. "(after trick #1 is performed) alright well maybe ya know i set that deck up specifically, so i have an extra set of cards here that i'd like you to shuffle, to make sure i didnt do anything or set anything up". just an example that seems pretty natural and fair. and i mean if you have a trick prepared on that deck then maybe just bring it out without calling any attention to it.
      as the magician you are the director of everyones attention, you are the one in charge most people are there to be entertained and willingly give you their attention, use this to your advantage confidently, but also naturally. also be aware of your spectators personality. might work for some others no
