Maybe because he wasn't technically portraying a rock star as much as he was teaching the students how to be rock stars? Just a guess. btw, I loved that movie! The kids definitely rocked. Prince have gotten at least a nod of recognition for Purple Rain, he after all was playing a "fictional" character even he was just basically being himself. On the same note, Cheech and Chong, especially Tommy Chong, for their portrayals in Up in Smoke. And speaking of Tommy, The Who should have a got a mention as well for that movie. Who knew Roger could act?
The singer in Steel Dragon in "Rockstar" was not fired because he was gay. He was fired because he was always getting late to the studio, and to the concerts. He did however ask the band if they fired him because he was gay though
I wish Stacee Jaxx had got number one. Tom Cruise was amazing in that role. I love his singing voice it made me go from being a regular fan of his to being obsessed with him. He was so sexy in that movie too I have watched the performances of his in rock of ages like a thousand times.
I would like to understand how a vampire rocker is not "Epic" The videos was sick! His attitude of "I am only doing one show because I do not like to repeat myself" Pretty hardcore I think
In Rock Star, the original singer of Steel Dragon was not fired for being gay. He accused his fellow bandmates of firing him because of that, but they said it was because he had a bad attitude, bailing on confirmed concert dates and not showing up to rehersals.
My personal favourite is stillwater from Almost Famous which is one of my all time favourite movies. I'm pretty sure spinal tap is no.1. Have to check it out.
Personally I think Lestat de Lioncourt (Queen of the Damned in that case) should be on this list as well. Still I think you put a pretty nice list of picks together :)
first off I just want to say thank you for doing this list and mention rock of ages (2012) and rockstar (2001) here's a fact that you watchmojo fans may or may not know about the movie, rockstar (2001). mark Wahlberg who plays chris 'lzzy' cole, had his vocals done by steelheart's frontman, crotian-american singer/songwriter, miljenko matijevic. jeff scott soto, who sang for ygnwie malmsteen, provided vocals for the actor who played the role of the original singer of steel dragon. don't believe me? look up steelheart on the web and look up steelheart here on youtube. trust me, you'll thank me and who knows someday down the road a watchmojo list for top ten steelheart songs will come out of this.
I think you kinda missed the coolness factor as a ranking system considering Spinal Tap frequently fell short in it. But if they place then surely The Rutles had a place here as well.
Really Brian Slade is number 10?!?! He should be higher. Or what about his counterpart Curt Wild? Velvet Goldmine is an underrated movie all together. The soundtrack alone is amazing.
Surprised to not see The Wonders from That Thing You Do (1996) since they played some live shows too. Not a personal fan, but really impressive commitment!
OK, I'm going to say before watching this, Bill Nighy's Ray Simms and Strange Fruit from "Still Crazy" better be mentioned somewhere in this. And Billy Talent and Hard Core Logo.
So 0 for 2. At least Eddie Wilson and Eric Draven got mentioned. I did not expect that. But given some of their choices, I wonder how they skipped The Commitments. They also performed live real world shows. And had 2 soundtrack albums.
i don't know why the rose was left out. i know bette midler's the real deal, but the rose is fictitious. and yes, she was loosely based on janis joplin.
The only true Stacee Jaxx is Chris Hardwick from the original stage play. Wait, Pedro De Pacas (Cheech Martin) from Up In Smoke and Guy Patterson (Tom Everett Scott) of the Wonders from That Thing You Do don't even get a mention and Dewey Cox gets a top spot? Have you ever watched movies?
He wasn't fired for being Gay, he was fired for missing rehearsals, not caring, not really showing interest, no communication, showing up to shows late, etc.
Props for adding Eric Draven to your list. I know it's not a movie, but it would have been great to have seen Nathan Explosion of the fictional Dethklok from the Adult Swim show Metalocalypse on here
I HATED how Tom Cruise played Stacee Jaxx in Rock of Ages! He was just TOO diasconnected from reality all the time! It was SO freaking ANNOYING! Aldous Snow should be #1 on the list because not only did he embodied the Rock 'N' Roll life style, but we got to go on a very emotional journey with him in 'Get Him to the Greek'. The insight into that character, his world and the people around him felt so sincere and realistic to what many Rock stars experience. Russel Brand's performance is extremely sympathetic and also grounds the character among the insanity that is his life! Who ever wrote that script had quite a vast knowledge of Rock 'N' Roll history with all the things that were touched upon throughout the film. Some aspects of Russel Brand's own life were Incorporated into the movie. I personally didn't really like the movie, but I appreciated all the effort put into it. Eric Draven was the epitome of a cool badass! I wish he'd made the list!
an idea for a video, anime plot twists if you do this you should have code Geass: Lelouch of the rebellion: ending and Naruto Shippuden: Itachi Uchiha turning out to be a good guy
Why is jack black not on here he was on the school of rock
and Tenacious D and the pick of destiny... lol. plus his real life performances with Tenacious D..
Wtf man jack black is from the school of rock think about it
Because Tenacious D isn't ficticious.
niether is the Blues Bros.
Why didn't this list go up to 11?
Best comment ever and why Spinal Tap is the number 1
Almost Famous is my favorite movie ever
"Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" is cool and underrated.
I know, that movie was awesome
Firat Abuleyla Music as a weapon. Cool concept and movie.
The singer in Steel Dragon in "Rockstar" was not fired because he was gay. He was fired because he was always getting late to the studio, and to the concerts.
He did however ask the band if they fired him because he was gay though
_Where's Shrek?_
Yessss! I knew Almost Famous would rank highly. One of my favorite films🙂
I'm calling Spinal Tap #1
I wish Stacee Jaxx had got number one. Tom Cruise was amazing in that role. I love his singing voice it made me go from being a regular fan of his to being obsessed with him. He was so sexy in that movie too I have watched the performances of his in rock of ages like a thousand times.
Naw his voice is too weak and frail not for rock
where is Dewey Finn from School of Rock
He wasn't a "star"....that's what SOR is about...him trying to achieve stardom
Rock and Roll, Motherfuckers. Rock and roll.
Lestat - Queen of the damned
I would like to understand how a vampire rocker is not "Epic" The videos was sick! His attitude of "I am only doing one show because I do not like to repeat myself" Pretty hardcore I think
I was hoping to see that too. 😭😭
Lestat in Queen Of The Damned was so badass and hot! And he had the ultimate 'groupie' (or amorous overlord!) in Queen Akasha/Aaliyah. 💜
Excuse me but where is School of Rock?!?!?!
he's not a rock star, kind of. But yeah, it's a great movie.
Zoe Gappa Yeah exactly
Dewey Finn from School of Rock wasn't even MENTIONED on a list about movie rock stars? Come on!
I don't know why i thought of that dude from The Rocker played by Rainn Wilson ahah
and also Tom Hiddleston in Only Lovers Left Alive
Im tenacious D fan
Chester 'Chaz' Darvey (Airheads) and Eric Draven are my favorites.
moviemetalhead Chester totally should have been on the list.
Ashley Nihil Yeah the people they get to answer these surveys don't see anything outside of what's popular. lol

In Rock Star, the original singer of Steel Dragon was not fired for being gay. He accused his fellow bandmates of firing him because of that, but they said it was because he had a bad attitude, bailing on confirmed concert dates and not showing up to rehersals.
Fact. Thank you.
Sammy Curr from Trick or Treat
Russel is an ICONNNN
Stave Vai as Jack Butler in Crossroads?
My personal favourite is stillwater from Almost Famous which is one of my all time favourite movies. I'm pretty sure spinal tap is no.1. Have to check it out.
Personally I think Lestat de Lioncourt (Queen of the Damned in that case) should be on this list as well. Still I think you put a pretty nice list of picks together :)

Not bad, but man, where's Pink from "The Wall"? He would be my Number One.
Gene Burnett Mine too
Doesn’t really count since it’s a concept album first and movie second let’s be honest.
I'm missing Rainn Wilson's character Fish from the movie The Rocker, great movie!
Conrad Birdie in Bye Bye Birdie (1963). And I'd like to sneak one in from the small screen, Jet Screamer from The Jetsons.
first off I just want to say thank you for doing this list and mention rock of ages (2012) and rockstar (2001) here's a fact that you watchmojo fans may or may not know about the movie, rockstar (2001). mark Wahlberg who plays chris 'lzzy' cole, had his vocals done by steelheart's frontman, crotian-american singer/songwriter, miljenko matijevic. jeff scott soto, who sang for ygnwie malmsteen, provided vocals for the actor who played the role of the original singer of steel dragon. don't believe me? look up steelheart on the web and look up steelheart here on youtube. trust me, you'll thank me and who knows someday down the road a watchmojo list for top ten steelheart songs will come out of this.
The Lone Rangers from Airheads were pretty great too
Reggie Wanker (Malcom McDowell), from the movie Get Crazy!

rock of ages should be number 1

No Queen of the damned, Lestat is awesome and I love all those songs wtf lol
OK, I'm going to say before watching this, Bill Nighy's Ray Simms and Strange Fruit from "Still Crazy" better be mentioned somewhere in this. And Billy Talent and Hard Core Logo.

When are Watchmojo ever fair to British films
i don't know why the rose was left out. i know bette midler's the real deal, but the rose is fictitious. and yes, she was loosely based on janis joplin.
Where's Rum Tum Tugger?
so where's the list that includes the Soggy Bottom Boys?
The only true Stacee Jaxx is Chris Hardwick from the original stage play.
Wait, Pedro De Pacas (Cheech Martin) from Up In Smoke and Guy Patterson (Tom Everett Scott) of the Wonders from That Thing You Do don't even get a mention and Dewey Cox gets a top spot? Have you ever watched movies?

A suggestion I have is the epic biopic of Darby Crash (the lead singer and creator of The Germs.) in the movie, "What We Do Is Secret".
True story: this is spinal tap's imdb page has the rating up to 11
Frank N. Furter should have been included!
Not a Rockstar
What about Janardhan "Jordan" Jakhar (aka JJ) from Rockstar, 2011 one? He was pretty kick-ass.
Billy Mack -Love actually?
I haven't watched this video yet, but if spinal tap are not somewhere on this list I'll be very upset.
marty mcfly in back to the future should be an honorable mention xD
inshayana he wasn't a rock star

You could also include LSD from the Producers.
Here's me questioning why Corinne burns isn't on here (ladies and gentlemen, the fabulous stains)
wheres sing street
I HATED how Tom Cruise played Stacee Jaxx in Rock of Ages! He was just TOO diasconnected from reality all the time! It was SO freaking ANNOYING!
