I bought my Husqvarna LGT 2554 about 11 year's ago. I've been very satisfied with it. I just changed my belt for the first time this week, and it was more a precaution. I keep it tuned up regularly and change the oil every year. I've never had a flat tire yet. Thanks
Fun fact, Husqvarna originally made rifles for the Swedish military! Their symbol is supposed to be a winged front rifle site from what I understand. They also made sewing machines back in the day along with motorcycles and obviously chainsaws! Awesome video thanks for sharing your tractor!
I have the same Hasqvarna mower as well as two others (Deere L130/24HP, 48 Deck and a Cub Cadet Zero-Turn 18HP, 42 Deck). The performance issues you described are not unique to Hasqvarna mowers. In fact, all similar powerered tractor/mowers will have difficulty with hills while in forward or reverse so it is not really an issue(s). BTW, my neighbor gave me this Hasqvarna mower for free because he could not start it. He was someone who was dangerous with tools, I had it running within an hour.
I bought mine in 2011. She’s a bulldozer. My yard is 2.5 acres I cut every week as needed...Still running strong.
Great review man! Just a side note, the Husqvarna logo is actually a depiction of a front and rear sight from a rifle. Husqvarna was building rifles back during WWI and WWII.

Thank you for the review and I have the same mower myself. You are spot on with the issues as I have the same thing with my mower. Only difference is the solenoid is not the problem with mine. Solenoid has been tested and fine, my issue is the fuse keeps blowing out and have to replace it. This has happened to mine 3-4 times now. Mine is located on a clip attached to the frame just under the solenoid. Great video!
Just came across your review and wanted to thank you. I have the same exact mower and it's nice to see that I'm not the only one seeing these issues/quirks. It's the little things that really get me (like the shroud over the belts on the mower deck and the way the exit cover on the deck throws the grass straight down instead of out and away (clogs a lot). I've also got the 3 bin grass/leaf collector attachment and that was so poorly designed that only 2 of the bins ever get full and the first one hardly ever gets anything thrown into it. Like I said, it was nice to see the 'cons' you point out are exactly the same as those I have... finally verification I'm not just being too picky!! :) Your review was really thorough and well done - I appreciate it! BTW... gorgeous property!

Nice mower! I have a 20hp46" cut Poulan Pro made by Husqvarna I bought new in 2010. Has all the same features (with the exception of mine has a manual blade engage) as that but has a 20hp briggs intek I/C engine and the gas tank and battery are in just the opposite places on mine. I took off those belt covers after the first year and I'm still on my original 10 year old belt although I have had to put new spindle assemblies on. The originals were sealed but I replaced them with ones that have grease zerks like yours. I don't remember Husqvarna bikes, but when I was a kid they were known for chainsaws around here. Funny thing is, one of the main factories near me makes Husqvarna transmissions now. I worked there years ago when it was Peerless Gear division of Tecumseh but they were bought out in 2009 by Husqvarna. Tire traction is a common problem. My land is flat so no worries, but if I had hills I'd get a set of chevron style tractor tires for it as they give a lot better grip.

I cut the plastic guard off even with the deck , and that way nothing gets thrown back at you, and you won't have to worry with clumping.
Brother, this was one of the best reviews that I have ever seen. I bought this version with the same deck which added cost. The deck and the standard model was cheaper. The deck that we have came with a 10 year warranty. When I began to search for a mower I was told that the B&S motor was lessor quality then the Kohler motor.
Here are some issues that I have with mine. One bummer about this tractor is the fact that you can’t even lift up off the seat if you spot an obstruction and decide to change directions before collision. The rear of my back yard has a ridge that I’m afraid to take. I use my push mower for that ridge line. Shifting your weight and the safety features are a bummer as well. The front fuel tank gauge is a total waste. Considering I paid too Dollar 8 years ago they should have added a digital fuel gauge. I enjoy the digital hours LCD but I should have gotten more for the money. The final issue I have had for the past 3 years is that it stalls once o engage the blades. It shakes and rattles and shuts off. I’m force you engage while the deck is in the full upward position, I have to give it some gas while holding the break and then it will engage. It shuts off at least 2-3 times while doing this. I never gave any thoughts to removing the belt covers because I feel that a poor design should not trump safety. I will clear those covers and for the first time I plan to clean underneath the deck manually. I’m talking gloves and a scrapper. My normal shade tree maintenance guy retired and this year I didn’t get it serviced. So now I have to on my own. Again I would love to see you post a new video about this tractor. BTW I love your property. I dream to have that type of land. Thanks

Your drive belt is loose ( hence won't go up incline). Try letting some air out of rear tyres.& you should be good👍

I've got the Craftsman version of your mower. Also 24 HP v-twin but with a 46" deck. My engine is a Briggs & Stratton though. I think the Craftsman may be built by Husqvarna also. I remember when I was shopping for a lawn tractor a few years ago one of the salespeople told me that Husqvarna makes many of the different brand mowers that are commonly found. My yard is all hills, and interestingly I get great traction. Maybe I'm heavier than you ha ha! Had a hell of a time getting it to start this spring after changing the spark plugs and fuel filter. As it turns out, the common replacement Champion spark plug should not be gapped according to the manual (.040.) Thanks to the internet I discovered that it should be gapped at .030. After doing that it fired right up.
The Three prongs on the Husqvarna emblem are actually to represent the three rivers the original factory was built on almost 300 years ago. And the word Husqvarna literally means, House on the river, and their little house on the river was a firearms manufacturer originally but the real claim to fame was the motorcycles and Chainsaws, they were known as one of the only brands that could go toe to toe with STIHL, and eventually passed them in sales.. But now its kind of back and forth.

Good review, thanks: ~ *FYI* - I have a *Husqvarna YTH2246* and it's 'almost' the same mower except ... it has a 22 HP B&S engine and a 46" deck. I bought that particular model because it only has 2 blades to maintain instead of 3. Mine is a *2007* year model, I bought it new from the local Husqvarna dealership and have been cutting my grass with it for 11 years with almost ZERO problems. I service it once a year, every year, and sharpen the (2) blades. The *ONLY* thing that ever 'broke' on it is the little hook on the end of the spring on the blade clutch cable. Was no big deal to replace that. I have replaced the battery 2 or 3 times, but still has the original tires on it & they're in good shape. ~~ *BELTS* It still had the original *11 year old belts* on it until last week, I replaced them both. (about $40.) The deck belt was an easy change, the motion/drive belt not so much fun, but doable. ~~ *GRASS DISCHARGE PLASTIC SHIELD/GUARD* As you said, it's too long & interferes with the grass discharge. I marked & *cut 4" off* the end of mine, that was a big help, much better. ~~ The *GREASE ZERKS* you mention being difficult to get to ... It would be easy to replace those. If I were to go shopping for a *new mower* today I would probably buy another one just like it, it has been a great mower for me for 11 years and is still doing a good job!
Thought the exact thing about cutting off some of the discharge cover. But I'm about to get the mulching kit.
I have the same one as you. Bought it in 2014, have 190 hours on it. Have replaced one deck belt, and replaced the blades once, I have very sandy soil with lots of small sticks. Never had any mechanical problems. Do have a little of the traction issue. I think I'll do like you and cut the discharge cover a bit. I am very happy with it.
I've got the craftsman 21hp 46" cut I have big time traction situations also I finely just put chains on being I also use this tractor to plow with in the winter also the chains help break up the turf for improved water drainage. I've got some very steep inclines we only have 1.75 acres to mow so it's not so bad... The biggest problem is the head gasket blow out the first year and the changed out the motor then two years latter it went out again they changed out the motor. then the following year it blow out again they put on a new gasket and head this time. Thank God for warranties... But now it's going to be cheaper for me to just get the parts and fix it myself due to the cost of the warranty is getting much higher the older the tractor gets. and I still have one of the other motors they replaced so I'll just put a new head and gasket on it so if this one blows I'll just swap the motor that takes about 15 minutes... But I love the tractor and it's a lot like yours. I thank now day one factory makes all the lawn tractors and just throws on different names and changes a few features on them to make them customized for each company I could be wrong but it seem like most of the lawn tractors now days are basically the same tractors with a few different placement and type of custom features... I only know that most seem to have the Briggs & Stratton motors on them that I saw back in 2008 when I bought this one before I retired in 2009... I figured that I'd get me a new lawn tractor and my wife a new Harley Sporty she wanted be fore I gave up all the overtime money I was making because once I retired those big fat pay checks were not going to be coming in no more!!! LOL,LOL... The best thing I ever did was retire younger than most... LOL
Well done! The more you talk the more interest this video was for me. I have an older model Craftsman that is in fact Husqvarna. Not much has changed since mine was made.

I do suggest possibly putting weights on the back of the tractor. I have weights that I use for my snow blower attachment in the winter time. The bracket is still left on there in the summer and I've been thinking that I would put some weights on the back either all the way across or on one specific side that I made sure was on the upside of the hill. (Eastern Canada Snow for me! You might not have a need for a snow blower attachment on your tractor :-) Just a thought. The weights are sold separately. I wish the tractors came with more aggressive tires. The grass gets torn up more from the wheels spinning much more than it would from a larger tire tread.

I hate the interlocks in the seats, when you are cutting across any slope and need more traction on a wheel, if you scoot your butt to the side to put more weight over the wheel the mower wants to shut off. I found the switch, pulled it out of the seat and clamped it closed with a 2" spring clamp. Also, when are they going to design a tractor with a phone holder? my phone won't fit in the cup holder and it's uncomfortable in my pocket on that kind of seat. When I'm mowing for a couple hours I like to be able to check my phone occasionally. I love the location of the solenoid on this tractor, much easier to replace than a cub cadet.

Thank you for your very nice, honest, review. You have a fairly large beautiful property and might want to consider upgrading on your next purchase to something with more features. The shields which you removed should be engineered differently to be safe and not jam up. The sway bar should be different also, or not needed because of design. Thanks again, as I enjoyed your style.

I had the same problem with traction with hills I just got a yth24k48D have had no problem with traction the problem is the rear needs to be posi track it is a night and day difference verses all the other mowers I ever used John deer cub cadet craftsman all great mowers but single track a good rear will fix traction issues I wish I knew this 30 years ago
How many hours are on it?
I have this exact same mower. I've had it for three years. I don't have this much property to mow, but I use it every week sometimes twice per week almost year round (I live in Florida). I have not experienced the sway bar issue described in this video. As a matter of fact, the only thing I've replaced is the battery. Great mower.
Getting stuck has been a frequent issue with my 2019 54" deck too.
I'm thinking if buying this model with the 54" deck. I'd appreciate your thoughts.

YOU CAN LOWER THE AIR IN THE BACK TIRES I HAVE THE TS 348 XD WITH THE CLEAR CUT DECK
I drilled a small hole in the top of the hood in that luver to put bungee cord hook and drilled a hole in the flap for the hook.
Saw off the plastic guard even with the deck, and it'll still give you protection from debris from underneath the mower and the grass still won't clump. I used my sawzall.
Beefing up the deck moints is a good idea and the vapor locking i heard about so i fixed mine before it happened
I have the YTH 24V48 I can't tell the difference between the V and K model; does anyone know?

6k mower is totally Different in Australia they have dif lock and fabricated deck and commercial motor... Similar but different... Still a lot of money compared to the US models
BTW this guy bought the wrong mower for that property.... I did exactly the same thing had all same problems just got a YTH2648TDRF

You pay for what you get
I bought a GT48XLSi With the mulching kit it came to around $3,800.00. Sales tax was on top of that. I bought it at a True Value Hardware store in Mountain City, TN. It wasn't assembled properly so it had to go back. The lights burned out the first time I turned it on. One of the front tires was defective with a pinhole in it. The deck clean hose quick connect is difficult to access and when the connection is made it stresses the garden hose connection. It does very little to clean the grass from the underside of the deck. The mulching kit is a disaster. The brand new blades did not cut the grass as much as it pulverized it. The grass is left in piles. The electrical connector for the starter switch rattled loose because it was a poor design and poor selection of parts. We already know about the gas gauge. The gas cap holder is useless because it falls right out of the tank. The axles use bushings instead of bearings - holy cow if I had known that I wouldn't have even considered buying it. Husqvarna won't discuss warranty issues and they told me that my business was with True Value. True Value corporate offices would not answer calls or return messages. The store owner was useless.
I should have bought it at Lowe's. Lowes's doesn't charge $40.00 to pick it up under warranty like True Value does plus Lowe's doesn't take their sweet time about it as True Value did. The Lowe's in Boone, NC contracts a very competent shop to do warranty work on their lawn equipment plus out of warranty work is done quickly and at a reasonable price.
The bottom line is that the Husqvarna is an overpriced, overrated, Swedish piece of garbage. It is the worst purchase I have ever made. I could have bought the equivalent Cub Cadet for over a thousand dollars less and wouldn't have these issues. After looking carefully at the Cub Cadet I felt that it was a much higher quality and better-designed machine.
@@itchymoche your Cub Cadet sounds like a bigger machine than the Husqvarna I have. I was comparing Husqvarna garden tractor to the Cub Cadet garden tractor. I am getting a knee replacement this winter. In the spring I will ditch the tractor and mow the lawn with my most excellent Kobalt 80v push mower.
Good call on the fuel level. I cannot read the level, unless it's nearly full. I have hilly terrain, they desperately need front brakes. They make a grease fitting adapter, that makes the zerk fitting at a 90 degree angle. Works great, like 5 bucks...

I beleave the H on the husquvarna is a gun sight. The company made firearms and sewing machines for like 280 years before they started making moto bikes in the 70's.
Husky makes a great chainsaw as well. I have a 44 year old Allis Chalmers 410 garden tractor, 10 hp kohler with 42" deck. neighbors have fancy new John Deeres and my ol Alice will mow circles round them ha ha. also have a rototiller, 1 furrow plow attachment and snowblower for her. I love the old technology!

I had mine for one season and had to replace the front wheel bearings. They were never greased from the factory.
I pump grease into mine regularly or else they squeal.
I think all cheap mowers like this have the same problems, after all they're made in the same place...i have an older john deere it has none of these problems, my son just gave me a mower just like yours hence forth why i watch... i will check it out after i go get it... it's relative new i will see how it stacks up...
Your. Hill problem is the tenchen on the drive belt
I put a 90 degree zerk fitting on the center shaft..now i can grease it..
Makes good sense. I usually pop the mower deck off, clean it and grease. Also touch up the blades every so often..
Husqvarna is Craftsman and Craftsman is Husqvarna. I have 42" craftsman and every part I have had to buy has crossed over to Husqvarna. BTW my craftsman is 20yrs. Old.
The emblem is looking down the barrel of a rifle or gun. You can see this after you know this. They started out making weapons.

A new TS354D will get you a locked differential button and is heavier built for $3700
That diff lock would really help me on the steeper hills here. On a grade, the high wheel looses traction and I have to shift my weight up hill to keep rolling.
Put a mulching kit on much better cut
Fill your rear tires with washer fluid

I'm pretty sure your mower has the RS 800 CVT by General Transmission. I purchased the Husqvarna LTA 18538. I thought it had issues going up hills until I called General Transmission in Texas and they explained how the transmission works. With the CVT, the further down you push the pedal, the higher the gear ratio and faster the speed. I was trying to climb hills and pushing the pedal all the way down. That is like trying to climb a hill with a 10 speed bike in tenth gear. If you push down just a little on the pedal it is in a lower gear ratio with higher torque but less speed. When I climb a hill now I just push down a little on the pedal and it goes right up hills I couldn't get up before. Now there are some hills it will not back up. Also I got some super lug tires that have the same tread as the back tires of a backhoe or farm tractor. The treads that are like a chevron pattern. Now it will go up almost anything. It made a huge difference! You have to be a little careful with those tires because they will dig in instead of spinning on the top of the grass like the Turf Saver tires that come on the mower. When the super lug tires start to spin, they'll tear the grass out by the roots. I did that a few times before I learned how to go up hills by pushing the pedal down just a little. To tell if it has the General Transmission RS 800 CVT either look on Husqvarna's sight or look at the rear end of your mower. If the transaxle is a black polymer / plastic it is the General Transmission RS 800 CVT. If the transaxle is a dull silver metal color it is the Tuff Torque K46 hydrostatic transmission.
I wasn't suggesting you back up hills. What I was suggesting was that when going forward up the hill, push the pedal down just a little. Some inclines the lawn tractor won't back up. It should go up going forward if you just push the pedal down a little.
HIs mower here has the Hydrostatic transmission. The "H" in the Model # YT"H". indicates Hydrostatic. The YT"A" Models have the RS 800 CVT General Transmission. The Hydrostatic transmission in most all lower end riding tractors use the TuffTorq K46 lightweight transmission. The K46 is notoriously a very, very weak transmission with low life expectancy < 3 years if run on hills and pulling implements. Not many of the A's out there yet.
What is the K in the model name (YTH 24K48)?
I have the YTA 22V46 and the V is for the V Twin motor (the A for for Automatic - aka CTV trans. As opposed to the H for hydrostatic... Which has already been pointed out basically).
But the K instead of V, I'm not sure. Is it a single cylinder instead of a V Twin cylinder?
@@itchymoche My yard is inclined also in places. But mine has the hydro-static trans, and as was pointed out in an earlier comment a light press to go forward takes care of getting stuck on an incline. I still have the original tires on mine and hardly get stuck but like you said in the video. Planning your route before you cut is the best. Great video and property. Can't wait to get to warm weather to get cutting the yard again.

@@itchymoche Ive just never heard of that before. So I assume you touch both screws at the same time with the pliers or driver? Tks for the tip but hey what do you think of the same model mower you have with 550 hrs and a torn up arm rest cushion thats a 2013 and to be auctioned off in the spring by a friend of mine but they said they would take 500 for it. Do you think thats a fair price? It belonged to an older man who mowed very slow on it and had a long tree lane to cover which accounted for the extra hours on it.
You'll get what someone is willing to pay for it. Might not be what you expected.

Well I'd at least make him an offer and if you need it bad enough, give him what he's asking. It's always somewhat of a gamble with used equipment.

All these Lawn Mower Companies make a Generic Brand mower which is a cheaper designed/built mower. A Certified Real Brand will Cost you around $5,0000. JD makes the L series Mowers that are just Glorified Murray Mowers-light duty transmission, no gear box on steering unit, etc.....

stop calling these "tractors", it's a thin, steeled/plastic grass mower. if it can't plow, it's NO TRACTOR!!! An old Gravley, Sears, cub cadet, Massey, Allis Chalmers, wheelhouse, simplicity, etc,. then it's NOT A TRACTOR!!! It can ONLY MOW GRASS!!!

James Brown is 100% correct. This machine is a riding lawn mower, and that's it. If your having trouble on a slope with tire slippage look into the Husky with the differential lock. They have both an auto lock, and some with a man/elect system. Any brand of riding lawn mower with have this slippage if the drive wheels cannot lock.
@@itchymoche I sold Husqvarna lawn equipment in the mid 2000's. Here's the deal. There are lawn tractors, garden tractors, sub compact and compact tractors and on up all designed to different jobs. Not calling it a tractor is like not calling a pick up a truck because it can't haul 80,000 pounds GCWR. Then again some people call those trucks, tractors, and I've never seen anyone plow a field with them.
