    Fëanor may have crafted the Silmarils , but Eregion forging a friendship with the Dwarves seems like a greater feat. You can't simply hammer hearts into the shape you desire.

    The siege and fall of the capital of Eregion, Ost-in-Edhil (literally Fortress of the Eldar), is one of those critical turning points of the Second Age that Tolkien frustratingly leaves threadbare...on the plus side it leaves plenty of space to imagine an echo of the Fall of Gondolin, with Celebrimbor the last fighting at the doors of the House of the Mírdain to keep Sauron out.

    • @OrgusDin
      @OrgusDin Před 6 měsíci +6

      Celebrimbor was a gigachad elf like Fingolfin, no way he didn't.

    • @Soloong_Gaybowzer
      @Soloong_Gaybowzer Před 3 měsíci +1

      The only reason he surrendered at the end was because Sauron claimed to have his family captured and promised that they would be reunited. Sauron in typical fashion tortured and killed his family in front of him, then beat him to death with his own mithril smithing hammer. Only after his death did he allow the orcs to have their fun using his torso as an archery target.
      The absolute hate and disrespect Sauron showed towards one elf, was never before seen nor heard from again in Middle Earth. That's how badly Celebrimbor f*cked up Sauron's plan to enslave the world with the rings.

    Eregion is one of my favorites among the Noldorin realms, and it has been since I first read the name in the second chapter of The Lord of the Rings, even though all I really knew about it at the time was that it was the place where Elven smiths made magic rings. The more I read about it, the more fascinated I became. Thanks for this video!

    Eregion (aka Hollin) has many connections to the Netherlands (Holland). Both meaning Land of Holly Trees. Amidst Holland and Amsterdam (Ost-en-Edhil) lies the origins of Christmas in the Tale of Sinterklaas & Zwarte Pete. The making of gifts (Rings) by Elves (Gwaith-i-Mirdain) and the distribution of them by Santa Claus on his sleigh led by 9 Reindeer (9 Nazgul Riders).

    While Gil-galad was the high king of the Noldor who chose to remain in Middle-earth during the Second Age, Eregion's political position there is unclear. After Sauron came to Eregion in the guise of Annatar, the rebellion against Galadriel and Celeborn by Gwaith-i-Mírdain, led by Celebrimbor, indicates that this kingdom has an autonomy independent of Gil-galad. According to Unfinished Tales, this situation of Galadriel, who seems to have been in control of Eregion for a while, can be read as a reflection of the motivation that formed the basis of her departure from Valinor and the continuation of her policy towards Fëanor, through her grandson Celebrimbor.

      Indeed! Rivendell was originally the refugee camp of the survivors of Ost-in-Edhil that Elrond rescued as his army retreated from the sack of the city. Over time Imladris evolved into a stronghold and proper settlement. The Noldor smiths that remained would later reforge Anduril.

      @@LordTelperion Thank you for the response. Yeah Rivendell became something of a reflection of Gondolin, and I know their smiths reforged Anduril, which was originally made by dwarves, but I was wondering if there was anyone of renown past the fall of Eregion and if they made anything of significance.
      Ohh just had a thought, I know they weren’t of elven make, but the Barrow weight blades that were special in their make, were made be the Dunedain for the specific purpose of use against the Nazgûl. These the Hobbits received from Tom Bombadil after their rescue from the Barrow Downs.

  • @mojojojoslyfoxharris
    @mojojojoslyfoxharris Před 18 dny

    The Rings of Power show should have made Celebrimbor the main character until his demise by Sauron/Annatar:
    1) His character arc revolves around him desiring to match the greatness of his grandfather Feanor, his hidden romantic feelings for Galadriel, and desire to use the Mithril discovered in the Misty Mountains as his "means" to achieve that dream of creating a great new elven realm in Eregion while creating somthing comparable to the Silmarils done by Feanor!
    2) During this time, the show would have him come across Narvi and the season builds their friendship to where they eventually construct the Doors of Durin together and it creates a good alliance/trade between the two races. However, this then brings Sauron to disguise himself to Eregion as Annatar.
    3) He gains Celebrimbor's trust by showing him how to create the 2nd "Eflstone/Elessar," which Celebrimbor gives as his "last ditch" effort to win the heart of Galadriel. She accepts the gift and beings to have conflicted feelings to Celebrimbor while not trusting the person calling himself Annatar now. Consequently, she leaves for Lorien.
    4) Brokenhearted, Celebrimbor goes on a forage trip to help get his mind of Galadriel, but Sauron secretly orders orcs to attack his small company, but thankfully Narvi had discovered the orcs base camp and learned they were gathering a hunting party for an elf named Celebrimbor.
    5) Celebrimbor gets ambushed by the orcs and is nearly killed by the orc leader, but Narvi and small company of dwarves comes to his aid. Right after Narvi kills the orc leader, Sauron appears and kills everyone except Celebrimbor. He decides to only knock out Celebrimbor because he sees him as means to achieve his dream of becoming the next Dark Lord.
    6) Celebrimbor wakes up to find Narvi was killed by Sauron (not knowing he's Annatar too) and realizes that he needs to strengthen Eregion to fight Sauron and the orc base camp that was recently moved south away from the Misty Mountains. Consequently, Annatar offers him to form the "Gwaith-i'Mirdain" group to build weapons/defense/etc. for this upcoming war with Sauron.
    7) You get the final scene with Sauron/Annatar holding paper designs for Rings and talks in his black speech that he will use Celebrimbor to build Rings of Power for every race on Middle Earth to own, but he will then construct the One Ring to Rule them All and achieve his goal of becoming the next Dark Lord of Middle-Earth.

    • @Alexs.2599
      @Alexs.2599 Před 4 měsíci

      @@anni.68Sorry are you kidding me? ROP totally disregards Tolkienian themes. Also Western Middle Earth is supposed to be Europe in a deep deep past many thousands of years ago. The Edain(Western Mortal Men), the Elves, the Dwarves and Hobbits are supposed to pre Europeans. There aren't any Black Dwarves, Hobbits, Elves and Numenorians it doesn't make any sense to portray them as such. If Amazon were portraying the Easterlings and the Haradrim that would be different. Tolkien was trying to create a mythology for England. His secondary world is based on Nordic and Celtic mythology. Also the time compression of the series just throws the timeline of the Second age off balance. And Adar?!, come on. The Elves that were kidnapped by Morgoth then twisted occured in the Valian years, long long before the Second Age of the Sun. There wouldn't be a corrupted Elf by this time in Arda's history. The show does not have Tolkienian themes. Clearly they're putting their own modern agenda behind it. I'm surprised someone who has read the books doesn't see that this series resembles very little of what Tolkien intended for his legendarium. You like the show fine, but to me and many others it's a huge disappointment.

    • @Alexs.2599

      @@anni.68 Well Tar Miriel was of the royal line of Elros so there is no way she would have had Haradrim ancestry at all. But some of the renegade Black Numenorians would have for sure. Tolkien stated that they oppressed the Haradrim in their lands. Yeah we'll see what happens in season 2. Here's my general take, I think it was too overally ambition of Amazon to take on the whole Second Age just using the appendices. As you said there is not a lot of source material there. Basically in order to have a proper series adaptation of the events of the forging of the Rings and The One you really need to utilize the Silmarillion, the Unfinished Tales, The Fall Of Numenor and reference books. Of course only the Tolkien estate has the rights them. I think Amazon should have done some tales from the early Third Age instead. There is way more info in the appendices from that age than the second. Yeah time compression is inevitable for sure but I think they should done it better. About Adar I still think his existence in the series is bizarre.
