"There is a growing number of next generation scientists who understand that science that depends on the exploitation of people's lands, cultures and self-determination will soon be a thing of the past.
Back in July, hundreds of astromers, most of whom were from institutions that would directly benefit from a new telescope on Mauna Kea, denounced the arrests and questioned the methods by which the TMT corporation was getting the telescope on the mountain in the first place.
Their open letter has now been signed by 1,060 scientists from the astronomy community.
As an astronomer at the University of California, Christina Manzano, signed the open letter, and this past weekend, came to Mauna Kea to express her solidarity with the protectors.

Perfectly said. 😊😊!!! I've been saying the same thing for a long time. Another thing that needs to be said is that "its not a small group of people opposing the tmt. Its a bigger group of people who support the protesters and there courage for standing up to the constitution of this telescope that's being partially funded by a foundation!!!! Keep up the fight!!!!

She is so far Off. They are completely separate issues. If TMT is not built on Mauna Kea HOW will that restore the Hawaiian Kingdom? Uh... It won't. I am surprised she wasn't beaten bloody. Someone from the UC system has no idea what is going on here.
