  • All grasshopper series have common issue with rear 'live axle gearbox' which moves up & down during accel and brakes, makes the car very unstable, and bumpy run.
    There are many many solutions for fixing this gearbox issue, this is just one of them using 3d printed Gearbox brace parts (if you are accessible to 3D printing). Just download the file, print it then slide it in between the chassis and gearbox. No need for any drilling nor screwing to fix the brace!
    You can download the printable design file from any of below links :

      thank you so much for your compliment! I guess tamiya already have these 'customer made' upgrades enlisted but decide not to release it so we fans try more mods? ^^

    I printed and installed these on a Grasshopper II and a Super Hornet and they were game-changing. Totally changed the way the car drives and handles. Couldn't recommend more.

    Although many solution out there i see this as one of the best without affecting the integrity of the chassis (no mod to chassis just add on). 1st clss Engineering solution

    This is great. I switched my Grasshopper to a technigold motor years ago. The rear end bounced up and down so much it blew the diff gears in just one run on dry grass. In the end the faster motor with standard suspension was the RS-380 it came with. This was always a weak point on the grasshopper and hornet as the brackets would often snap off.

    Excellent upgrade. I wonder about something soft... To allow some flex but not that big rotational movement. To help with the torque shock. 🤔 Amazing work.! Subbed for this! 🚀

    Traction on take will be lost in this mod due to the suspension providing the needed weight shift force to the rear tires.

    • @TheModelRocketeer

      You're correct. I think something soft would make a great absorber and help with the overwhelming torque shock on take off. 🚀

  • @No1BRC
    @No1BRC Před 11 měsíci +1

    Hey, great mod :) But I just have a question as an old skool owner of the original model: did you ever install the springs (part number BB9) that actually go on each side of that metal rod that connects the gearbox to the chassis? I remember that part vividly as back then when I got my Grasshopper over 30 years ago- these springs we either lost or actually even werent in the box- hence my dad built them on his own. They keep the gearbox from "jumping" while accelerating while maintaining traction.

    • @HumbleVintageRC
      @HumbleVintageRC  Před 11 měsíci +1

      thank you for the comment! yes I am aware of the springs that holds down the metal rod. I do know they are meant to hold down the rod while acceleration however that doesnt work in 540motors. in 380motors does springs hold down the rod firmly but for 540 simply the torque is way higher than the downforce from the springs

    • @No1BRC
      @No1BRC Před 11 měsíci +1

      @@HumbleVintageRC thanks for clarification 😊 Thats interesting - my car came with a 540RS motor but since my dad made the springs himself - I think he made them way stronger than the original ones as there was not much movement while driving the car. Its weird Tamiya doesnt offer stronger springs for stronger motors. However- you made a good fix, well done and modelled💪🏾
