You did a very good job of explaining the different processes and the terminologies. Being about your age, I think, I can hear in your vernacular your experience as well as the people you learned from. This video was fun for me, as it reminded me of the work I did as a young man. I wish we had those rebuild kits 30 years ago. I hope the young people watching your instruction can appreciate not only your skills and knowledge, but the learning environment you create. Teaching while doing is not an easy thing to do. I did it for many years in my profession. Your verbal delivery of instruction while showing the process at the same time is about as perfect as can be. I have watched to many training videos to count. I actually enjoyed yours. I thank you much.

Hiram has got it going on! He is one of the best instructors on CZcams. I have rebuilt a transmission myself once, but I didn't trust my work, therefore I did not use it. Hiram shows where the mistakes can occur, and he also informs us of the proper parts used for the particular rebuild. This is great! Hiram, keep-up the good work. I'll keep watching.

My father is a retired police mechanic and he did all the transmissions, Hiram you sound just like my dad talking about ingenuity, the screwdriver your special tools look just like the ones he gave me. I am doing my first rebuild since tech school, that was 2000. My father is not into social media and such but he has found CZcams recently and I am going to have him make you his first subscription! He said he put his tools away one final time now its my time to build my own transmissions, I just wanted a refresher on assembly, but I am walking away from the computer with a smile on my face. You are A #1 for hands on real life scenario bench building. My hat off to you sir!

Hiram: i owned/operated an AAMCO franchise for 15 yrs. You are dead on, regarding get it done right and get it out the door. These young "rookies" will learn that it has to work right or the owner is not happy, lost $, R&R men frustrated, taking the unit out and reinstalling again. 20 yrs ago a builder could push out 4 (350, c-6 etc) a day, today he is good to get 1-2 a day and that is a top notch builder. Unreal pressure on builders. Great builders make great money as does the owner.

Dead on John. I started with Aamco in 1972. learned on all the old iron. It was nothing to pump out 3-4, C-4, Powerglides, Torqueflites in a day... I made good money for 30 years in the transmission industry.

i've been watching your videos for a while now & i think you make a great teacher. i do all my own transmission work myself. the first trans i ever done was a th350 & the second was a 2004r (200r4 whichever it is lol) which lasted at least 12 years until the car got stolen a couple years back. then a c6 (easy) & now i'm building a nice th400 to go behind a stout 383 sbc. when i was younger i ran around with a boy who's dad rebuilt transmissions for a living so i learned a lot from both of them. his dad walked me through a th350 that he was doing for a customer. that was pretty cool to do. most people are intimidated by them & are afraid to tackle doing it themselves, but in all honestly they're not to bad. get a good manual & watch Hiram's videos (or whoever has one of what your working on) & try it yourself. not all take special tools to work on & a lot of people show you tricks on how to get the job done without the specialty tools. thank you for doing what you do. you make a difference whether you know it or not.

It's Sat 4am, dreaming, I'm hearing this constant banging and rattling metal to metal. WTF as I'm coming-to and hoping it'll go away. Gawd, it's like a metal shop bench I recognize as an FAA Certified Aircraft Mechanic at 16 years old. It's coming from my PC and I roll over trying to focus on the display I remember last night ...Mercedes E320 Wheel Speed Sensors... and wha? TN350? How did this huh? 2:00++ hours long omg??!! But I couldn't stop watching, before my eyes you're reassembling a trans I've only heard about. Actually decades ago, I was an Auto Service Contract Claims Adjuster where I discussed these components on the phone with mechanics, parts to which you were referring this very moment. Quite a fascinating video and I really enjoyed your expertise, finesse and mechanical "address" of energy. Theory vs. practicality is oh so a reality in the field, further, an A&P mechanic does not an automotive one make - that's for sure - and your video clearly demonstrates. As a DIY'er on my own benz's for 30 years I'm comfortable amongst the technology and fluid dynamics but still apprehensive when it comes to the automotive-astute mind you exemplify. Only a wrench in both realms can try describe another wrench, better, you just "know." Mostly I've learned, one is really good at one more than the other. You're really really good at what you do bro. Thanks for the great production! And to the Spring Valley and Cajon Speedway post, I feel ya'. Carlsbad dragstrip was a great venue too!

I've been away for a while but the th350 videos were a GREAT help! I built one over a year ago for a truck I no longer have and it has been in storage ever sense. I went with the high performance kit with the kolene steels. Also put in the Transgo kit. Up to this time, I had only rebuilt a powerglide back in the early 80s for class. The th350 ended up in a Mazda b2200 with a SBC that I recently completed. With your help and common sense approach to teaching with videos, my project was a complete success!!!! Thank you for posting informative and entertaining videos! Blessings!!

WELL I HAVE A 1974 CHEVY TRUCK, 350 TURBO TRANMISSION THAT NEEDS TO BE REBUILT, YOUR VIDEO WAS THE BEST OUT OF 20 OTHERS I WATCH (PARTIALY WATCHED) GOT TO YOURS AND VERY INFORMATIVE AND GOOD ATTENTION TO DETAIL. I DO KNOW I HAVE ALL THE TOOLS TO REBUILD MINE, BUT MY BRAIN COULD NEVER KEEP THE PARTS AND PIECES ORGANIZED, SO HERE IN SPOKANE WASHINGTON I HAVE A FEW FOLKS THAT SPECIALIZE IN 350 BUILDS AND I WILL CHOOSE ONE OF THEM. I KNEW THAT AUTOMATICS HAD LOTS OF PARTS, OVER MY HEAD EVEN THOUGH IM A MECHANICLLY INCLINED PERSON. I HAVE A SM465 TORE DOWN BUT IT NEEDS MORE PARTS AND A LOT MORE TIME TO GET IT UP AND GOING TO PUT INTO MY TRUCK THAT IS SET UP FOR AUTOMATIC, SO GOING TO HAVE THE TRANS REBUILD BY A SHOP AND I WILL REBUILD THE 205 T CASE AND THE DIFFS MYSELF. NEED TO GET THE TRUCK ROLLING IN THE SPRING TIME. WHAT WOULD BE THE BEST REBUILD KIT FOR A TRUCK 350 TRANS AND WHAT MANUFACTUER,I HAVE SEEN THIS ONE COMPANY CALLED "MONSTER" DO YOU HAVE A OPINION ON THIS COMPANYS PARTS. THANKS AGAIN ON SUCH A GREAT VIDEO. IF ANYONE IS WORKING ON CHEVY TRUCKS AND REBUILDING SM465'S AND 205 TRNAFER CASES THE PLACE ON CZcams TO GO IS "GEBBUILD" CHANNEL HE HAS LOTS OF VIDEOS HEAVY CHEVY FIXES.

Hey I was commenting on what you said about these guys going threw tech school and posting negative comments. You know text book and real life is different. You are the King of Transmission builders and I would trust what you say over any text book. I'm a certified tech and have been in the automotive field all my life, and you truly inspire me and as long as you have made a video on the transmission I'm building I feel comfortable doing the job. All of us mechanics are blessed to have you sharing your skills and experience. Thank you and please keep on posting your tech videos. I hang on to every word you say.

Just finished my 2nd TH350, since watching the video, 3 mos ago. The latter had severe damage, to center support case splines. So glad Hiram showed us the case fix metal tabs. Honestly took a bit of in and out to make them work, but in the end, everything tight as a drum. Thanks again. This one going in a 1949 Studebaker truck Hot Rod.

I have watched other transmission videos on Y-tube and your channel is best in my opinion. If I could subscribe more than once I would. I'm not a trans tech but I general mechanic and have learned things about transmissions that I never knew before. I always look forward to your videos. I have an idea to help with your subs. I won't promise anything but I'll try. You deserve it.

Great video but, I thought you said that you would omit 3 of the 4 ck balls for performance reasons as described on the shift kit. and yet you did install all 4 why??

Hiram, Thank you for taking all the time to produce these videos. I am NOT a professional mechanic but have been building and repairing cars & motorcycles for several decades. With little experience on an automatic transmission and only your videos and a book, I completely rebuilt my TH350 for my '78 Trans Am (w/'73 455 bored and stroked). Took me about two weeks off/on after work kept going back to your videos as reference. Today, my T/A got a test drive and everything is perfect. My car would not move an inch before I started. It turns out the outer seal on the Low/Reverse piston had deteriorated. There was no way pressure would build behind it to engage the clutches. All seals replaced, all fibers, all metals, band, etc. Thanks again!!!! My car runs perfect thanks to your help!!!!

You remind me of my friend Steve, he ran the transmission shop rebuild room at Palm Chevrolet in Ocala Florida .. just like him you know your shit an ace wrench and you most definitely know your shit. You make transmission rebuilds look like Child's Play, and of course anybody that has ever turned a wrench nose they are not,and there isn't a more technical job in the world.... Transmissions have a bazillion moving Parts they only fit if positioned correctly, and everything has to be in good working order.. undoubtedly Transmissions is one of the hardest positions at a dealership,or in any shop really..I subscribed, and I plan on watching all the time.. Thank you for the videos God bless you,, and your family my friend....Be well

Just seeing these videos now, (sept 2021) first time rebuilder for my 1979 Chevy k20. Purchased a rebuild kit, shift kit, assemblee goo, and a manual on th350.What I didnt need, was the Manual. Excellent video and in fact the first time I've ever liked, subscribed, or even commented on a CZcams video. Keep up the great work. Very helpful!

Hands down best transmission videos I've seen. Straight to the point and real talk. I could tell that you knew what you were doing just by the way you disassembled this transmission. I would love to have you build a transmission for my 4x4 Chevy...

  • @InTheDogHouse3DPrinting

You can only learn certain things by reading a book, and being in a classroom. Reality is a whole different ballgame. Just like with engine mechanics, classroom, and reality are entirely different.
You did a fantastic job of rebuilding that THM 350. I have rebuilt a few back in the day along with a THM 400. I work on small engines now, and I love it.
    Thanks for great the videos.
