- Back to the basics of Bass Fishing. It's time to hit the bank for some pond fishing. The fish may be little but they can teach you a lot and be a lot of fun to catch. Pick the right rods and reels and have at it.

I appreciate this video very much. My father died 14 years ago when I was just a kid. Every since then I almost forgot everything he taught me as a child. Watching your videos has given me some of those lost memories back.
John, My Father passed 24 years ago. Soon I will be the age that he died. 60! My Father taught me to fish. But not much else. But I cling to what he taught me. Don't put so much pressure on your self. Relax's Man! It will come to you. I don't try and be him. He was the best fisherman I ever seen. To this day I have never caught the big bass that he did. But I try everytime I go out. I caught 38 bass in 1hr and 15 minutes. I know he never did that. Just slow down and enjoy the outdoors and fishing. Thats what I do. Shawn
Thats sad, Just like my grandpa died because of a heart attack
Shawn I would love to throw some line out in the water sometime and hear your stories I hope you’re doing well and catching em all
I didn't have a dad teach me this stuff, but I was mechanically inclined thanks to him early on in my life,. I'm in the army now and took up fishing thanks to a buddy of mine, my roommate left base and let me have his combo rod and small box after my buddy took me out once I got hooked. Been hitting every pond around my base and during my lunch. Still have much to learn and these vids helped a lot.
I'm sorry for your loss buddy, I feel you bc my grandpa died when I was 6
Not to be weird but I wish I had a dad like you. Bet your kids learn a lot! Good job! You have my sub
Thanks dad for teaching me how to fish.. hunt... shave.. *Starts sobbing*
LOL
Flukemaster hahaha
IT WASN'T ME same
Papa CZcams.... teachin me to fish, hunt, fix cars, swing an axe....
Right in the feels
I love this style of video. Hearing you talk about your fishing strategy and describing the methods you use to execute it are what make this channel so much better than the salesmen on other channels.
As a private pond "that's right next to a public road " owner thanks for saying that. I fear to many kids that watch some channels will begin jumping fences because they think it's ok. Not only is it illegal "poaching" but it's definitely a good way to get shot. Especially here in Texas. Leading by example is the best way to lead. Love the videos btw.
chris aguirre getting shot while fishing. First time I heard that. Didn’t realize how little people value life till just now. Thanks.
@@bobvilla4383 here i georgia i have had idiots shoot at me in my kayak on the rivers, people think if they own the bank they own the whole river.
@@Pickledill710 I live in Florida if I'm in the water near were people can shoot at theirs probably alligators close by. If the shoot me I'm really going to die.
These idiots don’t own the lakes this is America u can fish were U want
Let kids fish what’s the big deal s
Flukemaster i have been on about a 1 year hiatus from fishin due to getting married and starting a new life with my wife. She is not too fond of me spending 100% of my free time on google earth and banks of ponds. I'm happy to say that I'm now well established and have some time to watch your videos again and apply your teachings. This video is one I watched when you first dropped it like 5 years ago and seeing you out there brings back great memories. Thank you for helping teach me how to fish all those years ago.
Love videos like these man, there's plenty of us young bass anglers who either can't afford or don't have access to a boat. These kind of videos teaching everybody how to fish from the bank on ponds and lakes means a lot.
When I was a kid my grandpa took me to lake for fishing. When he catch a fish I released it back to lake.
Now I'm thinking he is not so happy releasing the fish but never said a word to me. He was a great man.
This made me emotional
I love bank fishing the local ponds around here. I always go for structure in the water or an overhanging tree in the water. Dead trees, thick bulrushes just in the edge of the water, etc are great hotspots. I found a local lake not far from home about a month ago and decided to try it out. I located what appeared to be an old tree stump or possibly a pole from a pier. First cast on it and a 3 pounder lit up the wacky rig. I love the challenge of bass fishing.
i like fishing a small pond like that right when the sun is going down...3" paddle tail swim baits.. small buzz baits and a POPPER!.. lol thanks Gene for the video
This is really old, but I wanted to say I really respect you for showing how to fish certain places and also for not setting the hook like a mad-man and ripping the fishes mouth. Shows the respect you have and I appreciate it, keep on getting them! 😃
Flippin' Bassholes to many of my buds tell me I don't set the hook hard enough and I'm like "I'm not trying to rip their head off"
I go as far as taking my pliers and pressing down the barb on all my hooks. I lose a couple more and in fact just today lost what was a minimum 5 pounder, but when the fish swallows it or just gets stuck in the gills / throat it's easier to save the fish.
@@TheDude92111 you can buy barbless hooks. The local river in my town enforces barbless only.
Just started fishing today because of your videos. I could say Im ‘hooked’...
Awesome video Gene, this is the kind of fishing I do 90% of the time. So watching you break down a body of water on foot and seeing how you narrow down spots is awesome for me. Thank you for teaching me how to fish and instill this passion that I never knew i could have for fishing. Keep Up the fantastic work and can't wait for more videos like this one!
Great video with a ton of advice that actually works.
I learned to fish largies in the most pressured pond in all of toronto (where im from). Took me months to even begin to put a pattern together but with time i learned alot. It was a blessing in disguise i guess as now i can key in on newer water a bit quicker
Always cast at drain pipes. That's what I've learned pond fishing.
Charsept yeah there is this pond I fish and there are big bass and snook by the pipes (it is brackish water)
Charsept I caught an 8.7lb bass this spring (and a couple 6's) in a pond drain pipe 2ft wide and in 2ft of water.
If the drains running garenteed fish drop shot it if they're reluctant to bite and boom.
It’s much more exciting to trespass and see how many you can catch before the police arrive
Yeah I love me some sewer drainage fish 3 eyeballs and 2 tails 4 heads
Just want to say you do a great job at explaining things simple enough for kids to understand yet still not seeming to talk down to adults. I am from California so a lot of the techniques that don't always transfer out here, but I do travel quite a bit for work mostly in the south and have to say have caught many fish with tips you have given.
Followed your tips in this video and caught 4 bass today. Nobody else fishing the small lake was catching anything, felt good! Thanks.
I respect you in the fact you don't illegally trespass just to fish. I also like how this video was geared towards useful information about fishing tactics. I understand some people like the vlogs of CZcamsrs lives though.
his beer belly holds master angler levels of authority
I haven't fished in over a decade! Thanks for keeping everything simple and easy to understand.
Thousands of these ponds around here- most are loaded with bass!Good instructional for folks living & fishing in the heartland❤️
"That I asked permission to fish... Yes I asked permission that type of thing can get you shot" great line. Great video flukemaster keep up the good work. Pond fishing videos are great
Thank you for uploading this video! I have been struggling this summer but I'm gonna try some of the tips from this video and hopefully catch some.
I don't sneak on to people's property, that gets you shot-Fluke. Best quote!
Great intro to pond fishing! Was rusty at pond after shore fishing 🎣 but this definitley helped! Took my partner fishing as a date -he's hooked! Thank you for amazing content!
Sir, this is exactly the type of VLOG that convinced me to follow your channel. I can't tell you how many fellow anglers (Old timers and experienced) have asked me where I learned a specific technique. That's when I share your name and channel information. You are easy to listen to, the advice and guidance is informative and it provides me the information to build on my confidence to learn the sport I have fallen in love with. Thank you!!! p.s. - I have purchased a GoPro and wanted to know what you use to get your audio to the GoPro when you walk away. I suspect it is a wireless microphone and if you do not mind, can you share the what you use.... Thank you again for the wonderful job you do with your Channel !!! John
Well said brotha. Hope Gene reads this. Thank you Gene for teaching me how to fish starting from one of my favourite lines of yours "CONFIDENCE."
Fluke sounds like a regular guy trying to share info about something he really loves to do.He shows good luck and bad, fails and success. Shares his own opinion and says I dont know why thats just me. Real life, just like yer Dad.
Thanks Stuart. My character comes directly from him.
Thank you so much for the great information. I love fishing and it is great to know there is a good family friendly CZcamsr on CZcams.
i needed this video, many times most of the ppl im subscribed to dont put up vids on how to fish ponds but ponds are also overlooked but are awesome
Awesome video Fluke! This will help a ton! Especially the part where you said to look for the steepest bank to identity a potential dam/deepest part! Thanks!
Gene, you're one of the nicest, most genuine guys on CZcams and I always look forward to your fishing tips and footage. Great work as always and keep 'em coming!
catching any fish is always fun, keep up the hard work man. and i agree permission does have allot better chance of not getting shot
Best bank fishing coaching I ever got!! Really appreciate it Gene! I enjoy all your videos too. Keep up the EXCELLENT work for us amateurs!
Thanks Richard
Love the video I fish a lot of small ponds where I live in southwest Florida most of the time on my way home from work. Lots of fun!!!
So excited to see this video Gene! I bought a kayak this week so I'm going to start backing off the bank fishing a little. Still love doing it though and appreciate this video!
New subscriber, love your content. I've have been fishing my whole life mostly trout fishing mountain streams or big river catfishing. The last few years I've been try to expand my knowledge on bass fishing and your videos have been very helpful. Keep doing what you are doing. Thanks
Was just getting ready to go fish a pond and seen you uploaded this video. Talk about perfect timing🎣
What did you catch? :)
To each his own. I do agree with "flukemaster" flukes are my favorite
Keep up the vids bud! I really learned a lot because I'm a horrible fisherman and I wanna teach my kids that bobbers and worms are not the only way to do it thanks a lot really😀
People act like they know what they’re talking about and then people like this start talking. Thanks for putting in the work to humble the ignorant and to teach the wise who want to learn from the wise.
This guy has a great working relationship with the camera. Has fun with it. Great time and teaching technique. I'll keep watching him even though i fish in Southern California and the bight is perhaps more difficult here
Thanks man
Awesome video, looks similar to the pond I fish. Sneaking onto a pond will definitely get you shot especially in the South. I'm in Louisiana and it's very rural and land owners are generally well armed. Keep up the awesome videos
"Got a five inch lizard in my pocket"
Nobody cares about the lizard in ur pocket
the second i heard "i got some 5 inch lizards in my pocket" i scrolled down KNOWING there would be a comment!...awesome
Your advice helped me catch a monster yesterday! Love the channel!
Thank you for this video. I had to stop right after you was talking about what colors to use with the water clarity to tell you in advanced thank you for the information lol. I enjoy all your videos, they are really helping me a lot (now back to the video lol)
ive watched your videos before and i thought they were insightful but i never thought to follow. well ive got more into bass fishing this year and within the first minute of this video i subbed. "I asked for permission" thats what got me. So many people try and sneak onto my grandfathers pond and damnit if they just asked, we wouldnt have had any of the altercations that weve had. Good videos and a good guy. Keep fishing man.
This video saved me! the only fishing spots around me are small ponds like this. Great channel by the way
You are hands down best youtuber. I have learned so much from your videos because it always about fishing unlike the others who just vlog and then have a little fishing. Keep it up and thanks for the great videos
love your videos you are the Bob Ross of fishing
Thanks for the tips. We are hopefully headed out this weekend to employ some of your strategies. 👍🤞
Looks like a lot of fun. Just like the fun they have on reel outdoorsy.
Hey Flukmaster!! Just joined the T-Shirt of the month club I will be the talk of my lake....lol.....Thanks! GONEFISHIN!
I've watched a ton of your videos. You are one of my top go to guys for specific videos, but with that aside,.... you've helped me with these videos, and as we have fishing in common, we have other things in common also, and instead of me trying to talk to you about what's on my mind on here for everyone to see, I'd like to talk to you about some health related things so that I may be able to help you with as you have helped me.
lmao you throwing shots at me at 0:35????
LOL. Not just you . Just a little pet peeve of mine.
sounds like it man
Do I smell a 1v1 coming soon?
Classic Flair. Hey can you check my channel out and let me know any pointers
Got em!!
FLAIR insecure bitch
A finesse jig is extremely hard to beat for pond fishing. Hard to get hung up and multiple ways to fish it. The Ned rig a also hand down one of the best pond baits!
Farm ponds are so much fun you never know what's in some of them thanks
thanks for taking the time to post this video nice to see ethics and family values come together on CZcams it's a rarity believe it or not. heard the boy ask what are you catching them on when they pulled up after not getting up early my son did the exact thing last time we went out. I did let him know where the fish work but I let him figure out his own presentation and depth . I then ran off hid my lure and took a nap fish be with u
I personally fish with a light to medium action fly rod set up with a spin casting reel the rods length is 8’4” and I feel like it’s a great light and balanced combo and I have caught some monsters on it
6:56 that was the slowest hook set I've ever seen?!?😂😂nice videos man
"little pond"
that pond is small it's probably a acre
+oRekless The main pond I fish in is smaller than that one. It's probably about 1/2 an acre, I have pics of it on my phone along with some of the bass and white crappie I caught out of it. Talked to the owner yesterday and he said that his ponds are low bc it's been in the mid to high 90s and very little rain. I usually don't get over there til 10 or later n by that time it's already between 92-96. That's the worst part of Louisiana summers, it's still 80℉ at 2:45am
right
My little ranch pond is about 25 feet north to south & 35 feet east to west. It's a little pond with quite a bit of fish, it's naturally rain filled, started out as a hole I dug in the ground in hopes of a pond and it happened (about 6 yrs ago it filled with water and held nicely) I put NO fish in this pond and its filled with fish now, lot of pumpkinseed perch and if I had to estimate 10 bass maybe a few more, max depth 11 1/2 feet average depth of 2 1/2 feet most of the middle is about 4-6 feet. Biggest bass I've caught 5 lbs out of it, got the pic on my facebook, there's thousands of minnows/bait fish swimming around. I believe it got it's fish from ducks and seagulls that occasionally use the water, they didn't come from a flood.
I was thinking the same thing 😂
I never fished but I’m about to. Seeing this video and the one which you spoke about as a beginner, and about creating a tackle box, rigging, and rods, I’m already starting to see the light. I know nothing about fishing at all and the only time I even attempted to I used an M-16, seriously, I did. I was 14.
I never did this kind of fishing but looks interesting. I can't believe how still the air is. No wind at all.
Flukemaster, I wanted to let you know I appreciate the fishing knot tutorials. They helped me quite a bit my friend. Thank You!
+Anthony Parra Thanks Anthony
This was really helpful. These kinds of ponds are all I have to fish where I live. But they dye the water green here and hard to find out what the fish can see. Sometimes it natural others it bright.
Very informative on how to read a pond when you bank fish. Thanks.
thanks for the tips I'm gonna go pond fishing in a bit
Hello. I have never seen this video and just came across it. Really informative, and I like your style. Much appreciated. Thank you
You should do a remastered series for all of your old videos. To make them better quality and easier to understand :) great videos!
Great 👍🏼 video. Thanks for the schooling! Wish y'all safe passage from hurricane Irma.
very informative! Appreciate all that you do Gene.
Is that a 5 inch lizard in your pocket or are you just happy to see me.
Nice video Gene! Keep it up man!
Yes
I been watching a bunch of fishing tip videos and i have noticed you commented on almost all of them. I just want to say that the sportsmanship you show had gained my respect!
Great video dragging the bottom is the best tip in the heat of the summer!
Subscribed. Get explanations. Found myself paying attention more than normal due to the ease of following detail. Keep up the good work.
Thanks to your video i went out to a pond around 5pm and caught about 5 largemouth bass
Idk how i found your channel but your content is so helpful and educational I just want to thank u and say keep up the good work. New subscriber gained 👍
Love your channel man.... thanks for doing all of this
Thanks Gene. Always good info on your videos.
Awesome man! Glad your channel is growing...proud of you dude!
Just clued in, watched several, subscribed. Thanks for making the time and effort to produce these !
Thank you
My parents had a pond in the farm where I spent my teen years. The people who had the best chance of getting permission to fish were those who asked WITHOUT a rod in their hand or vehicle. My folks considered these people to be forward enough thinkers to :A. Not drive into the pondB. Not fall in without sense enough to get out. They also encouraged culling the size bass on your video today.
I absolutely love your videos! Very informative and easy to understand for beginners!! :)
Thanks Tiersa, It's great to have ladies watching and commenting on my videos.
Camera quality was out of this world. Excellent job brotha
Nice video and axplanation.
I was born near to the river Neretva and I was fishing a lot as a boy, few different kinds of fishing. Something like your second rod you took.
But the first one is pretty strange to me. The machine actually, around here I newer saw something similar.
Another great vid. I have been fishing a long time but always pick something up from your instructional videos. And I can't agree more, show up no rods in hand and ask for permission, you might be surprised how many people will let you fish. Keep up the great work..
Thanks Pat
Hey thanks man. I'm getting into fishing and I appreciate your content
Very helpful video. I'm still new to fishing and love these kinds of helpful videos. Go Dawgs! (Augusta area).
Well Done!. Keep up the good work of teaching fishing.
6:55 "dead stick in a lizzard" "little dinky doo"
I like your videos so much more than those other kids, this is much more informative
I am from Costa Rica. During the Holy Week break I went fishing with my son for “rainbow bass” (Parachromis dovii), a ciclid and Machaca (Prochilodus mineatus), which is a feisty fighter related to the Brazilian piranha. We drove for four hours to Lake Arenal, a lake impoundment for the main power generation facility of the country which was establlished in 1978. The water is clear but not like your many glacier lakes and the depth is mostly 30 meters deep. The ambient temperature high and the water probably was within 22 degrees Centigrade. We started using top lures like a tiger patterned Big-O’s for machaca. No luck then! We changed to heavier lures with our spinning tackle, Shimano graphite rods and Shakespeare Sigma 2200-035’s and Cotton Cordell Super Shots and I got a bite from a “rainbow bass”. We tried trolling with Big-O’s without any luck! There was quite a lot of wind which made challenging reaching to our favorite fishing holes! We are at the end of the dry season! The many rivers that feed the lake impoundment were down to a trickle, the lake was perhaps down in level 5 meters. We fished the river mouths, many coves, and parallel to the coves. My son tried his trusty Mepps #2 Comet , a killer with rainbow bass minnow, but lost it before I could yank it from and underwater log. We’ve been lucky before with these rigs and approaches! Can you point us in the right direction?
The fishing shirt of the month sounds pretty tempting !
My pond is a golf course pond the water is about 8 ft visibility and is 1/4 of the size out of that pond and there are 10 pounders in there
@Dylan Sierer indeed and not as easy as people think really depends on the design of the irrigation system. Always fun to
Here in Florida the golf ponds are extrodenary that 10lbr is just slightly above average
Bass pro teamed up with our county to find those big bass and multiple 14s were caught on my local course.
Monster tarpon as well
You seem like a good dude man. I'd definitely go fishing with you. I'm definitely subscribing.
wow!!! I jus learned so much info in this video!! thank u !!! I Ben having trouble pond fishing to where I can't keep my fish on with the frog!! wat am I doing wrong?? I don't get it? I waited to set the hook but either the bass miss it or I have the bass for a second and he flops away from it 😠 I live in Florida so ...
I completely loved this style video!!!
Thanks alot for the video man!
Me and my son are in Georgia too :)
Lots of good info in your videos

Great video dude!!! Your positive attitude is awesome!!!
When he said Might of spooked it, dad gummit i was lauphing so hard hehehe
