Best hockey sense, extremely physical, complete on both ends of the rink, best passer of all time, best playmaker of all time, impossible to take the puck from(best puck protection ever), amazing dangler, great skating, great shot(even though he lacked confidence in his shots), could do just about anything with the puck, amazing corner warrior, sacrificed himself without hesitation for his own well being for the team, gave it his all all the time, invented the reversed tackle, maintained his point production all throughout his whole carrier even though he had issues with his foot for half of it, rose to the occasion during playoffs and important situations, never complained, never gave excuses, always got back up after setbacks.. What else would you want in a player? To me he is the GOAT, the most complete player ever and the most valuable player ever to have on any team.
As someone who started watching in '04, my initial introduction was the lockout, so I missed a lot of great players first time. Luckily youtube is here to fix that.
In the 1980s I was a teenager and going to Chicago Blackhawks games at the Old Barn Chicago Stadium. I had the chance to see the Great One 99 Edmonton, Super Mario, Dennis Savard, Paul Coffee, and many other incredible players, great goals, great net minders, great fights on the ice and in the parking lots. *However* as the 1980s came to a close, the 1990s ushered in another era of truly outstanding Professional Hockey for North America and the World. The Detroit Redwings were amazing. The Dallas Stars, Blackhawks, Pittsburgh, and then there was the Quebec nordics, who in 1995-96 arrived in Denver Colorado and became the Colorado Avalanche. I had not had a chance to see many games for this team. I watched Patrick Roy and Super Joe Sakic (utterly incredible players) And then there was the Hockey God. #21 *PETER "THE GREAT"* *FORSBERG NEVER BEFORE IN MY 54 YEARS had I witnessed someone with SUCH TALENT AND SKILL SETS. Forsberg was utterly incredible. I am simply a fan of the game of Hockey, and I do not allow division or so called with us or them CRAP to stop me from being a fan of the game. I like a lot of teams in the NHL, but the top two are the Chicago Blackhawks, and the Colorado Avalanche. I had gone to United Center to see these two teams play and spent $500+ to sit on the glass for a couple and say these guys up close. Forsberg always handled the puck like it was magically attached to the blade of his stick. Just incredible memories. In 2001, I almost attended Game 7 on Saturday Night, June 9th at the Pepsi Center in Denver. My dreams were crushed because two of my co-workers had been shot, one died and the other was saved by his vest. This took place the night before I was leaving. An Officer with the Littleton Colorado Police Dept who had two tickets for me was understanding and gave me back the money I had sent him. My $99.00 flight with Southwest I had to eat. So, we had an emergency at work, and we needed to flood the streets with *BLUE* and hunt down two Cop Killers with an urgency, which we did, and both are serving life without parole. Because we were able to capture these two men without any additional gunfire, the big boss let us watch game 7 at the Station and I had chills running through me when Joe Sakic leveled Scott Stevens, the ruthless enforcer for the NJ Devils. Sakic and Tanguay and Roy were playing out of their minds that night. I remember going home that night with a very bitter sweet feeling. My favorite team had done it, and Joe Sakic hoisted Lord Stanley's Cup and handed it to the Great Defenseman #77 Ray Bourque. Tough grow men, highly trained Pro Hockey players with tears in their eyes, the raw emotions, blood, sweat, and tears through all the years of trying so hard to achieve what so few people could only dream of having their name engraved on the most difficult trophy on Earth to capture. I was so happy for those guys and their kids and Wives to experience... So happy to see that, but reality I could *NEVER* shake. My longtime coworker and friend was dead, never coming back. He left behind a wife and three children. Many of us have looked after this shattered family all these years. It's been 20 years since those bitter sweet nights the weekend of June 8-10th 2001, and I will *NEVER FORGET* This is the reality for Police Officers everywhere. The tragic deaths of Americans I wish would stop. I *PRAY TO GOD AND I WISH FOR THE GOOD FOLKS TO COME TOGETHER AND FIND COMMON GROUND AND LOVE OF. GOD, FAMILY, AND COUNTRY. Forsberg is my favorite player of all time and I am a Detroit Red Wings fan, born and raised. Forsberg, to me, was the ultimate hockey player. He had every attribute you could want. He could be gritty and score dirty goals or he could dazzle you and score the prettiest goal you had ever seen. He was the guy I feared the most when Detroit was playing Colorado. Yes, even more than Patrick Roy.
Also, I wish the Red Eings were back in the Western Conference and Central Division so that the our teams could play each other more for old times sake.
I am Philadelphia Flyers fan from birth and was so happy to see him in black and orange. And hated to see him go. Just like Eric Lindros, I would have loved to see what he could have accomplished if injury free.
Love the story of when he came home after a hockeygame when he was seven years old, i think, and was pissed bacause his team had lost 7-8. His mom asked him if he scored any goals and he cried and said "Seven!". Tell you all you need to know, what matters is not you stats its the W.

Are we talking about players that changed the game, like Orr and Howie, or about total players? If we're talking about the second option, Gretzky could barely tackle, so he's disqualified just like I only for that reason disqualify Datsyuk that otherwise also would have been a contender for best of all time. Lemieux didn't backcheck as much, so that leaves it to Lidstrom or Forsberg, and as good as Lidstrom was, I can't quiet forget all those moments that Lidstrom was sent by Forsberg up into the stands to buy a hot-dog, so.. Tadaaa, I guess, Forsberg is the best player, most complete of them all. I became addicted to hockey because of Peter Forsberg. Up until that time, I had never seen a competitor in any sport that could become so possessed with will, strength, style, touch, persistence, intelligence, and focus and just will his way to victory. His eyes... He truly looked possessed and played possessed sometimes and you could just feel that he was going to do something special before he did it.
To be recognised and accepted as one of the absolute greates players in hockey you surely have to be Canadian! Best forward? Right/Leftwing? Defence? Most useful for your team in terms of everything and his determination is this man I think🤔 As a Finn my wote make the choice even more trustful

It is unjust and damaging for the sport that North Americans refuse to admit that Forsberg is the most complete player of all time, the best playmaker ever, the best passer ever, one of the best defensive forwards ever, the best puck protector ever, the best corner warrior ever, the best 2way player ever, invented the reversed hit etc etc and that European players aren’t schooled to chase points and individual accolades. Peter the Great is a 1 in a million player! No one is as good as Forsberg with the puck! Even though Mackinnon is a really good playmaker/sniper Forsberg is that all around player that all teams want!!

It was caused by 'neutral zone trap interference, general player interference, hooking and holding in all zones, oversized goalie equipment, and referees not calling penalties that are in the rule book. Teams drafted players based on size and strength. Later however, the NHL decided to call more penalties, eliminate interference and open up the ice, and teams began to draft smaller players with skating ability. Crosby and Ovechkin were the first of this generation, and the best, and teams started valuing skill and talent instead of muscle and size. The game opened up, new kids who watched these two players decided to play like them, the minor leagues in north america followed the NHL rules, and opened up, and now the game is much faster again, more open, with more passing, scoring and skating, and less interference, hooking and holding. They don’t make them like forsberg anymore. So much talent and sacrificed his body and he didn’t need to but he liked that style which ultimately ended his career quickly just like Lindros. Ironically they were traded for each other.
Geez time flies. I remember being a kid and my brother and I talking about hey that forsberg goal was sick wasn't it and would try doing it in street hockey. Would also always try and do the kamensky goal as well. Honestly time flies, it's so crazy. Feels like I was just a kid watching the avs panthers final and how exciting it was to watch them. Sakic and forsberg were the ultimate duo. Loved my sabres but liked that avs team.
Forsberg in '03 (especially) was really something next level. Unmatched to this day imo. Born and raised in the same town as #21 i'm obviously somewhat biased, but for me he's the goat.
One of my fav for sure and Joe said it right about his grit and skill. I remember being frustrated because he played real hard and also caught a lot of roughness from opponents which must have been punishing on his body. I wanted him to avoid a bit more of that physical game in order to reduce injury but that was part of his game- he didn't back down.

Exactly. Thanks to that the Avs now are one of the scariest teams in the NHL. Lindros the smuck. He was fairly good too though, but should have trained harder, stopped yapping with his nasty attitude, avoided injuring/crushing people abusing the size he brought, and atleast tried to avoid becoming a laughing stock with his refusal of playing with the Nordics. The Nordics/Avs made probably the best trade of all time there.
Worth mentioning is that Forsberg had several critical injuries throughout his carear and refused to stay off the ice. Constantly it felt like his carrear was over but he managed to come back, probably playing with every painkiller allowed. And here in the clip they showed some goals but I want to say that his way to move the puck and assist his players in to beatuful goals was what gave him all the trophys. This was also why he kept being injured. The opponents had to use every dirty trick possible in desperation to make Forsberg lose the puck or it would be a goal in a few seconds
If you win two World Cups, two Olympic gold medals and especially two Stanley Cups, maybe it isn't that you were lucky to be on great teams - maybe it's you.

The problem with Peter was that he could've scored on every single puck cuz of his power and skill...but he was too nice of a person... he had to share the puck
It wasn’t about him being too nice. He lacked confidence in his shooting ability even though he had a great wrist shot and slap shot. He never worked through his mental confidence block unfortunately. He was very tiny at a young age and has explained in Swedish interviews that he had to think smarter than the other players to win the one on one battles in the corners etc. So obviously he thought that he was too weak to shoot hard when he was a junior. That self image followed him throughout his whole carrier.

That’s 1st team all star. At the end of the year they pick the best player of that position and they are announced first or second team. Totally different than mid season all star games.

They don’t make them like forsberg anymore. So much talent and sacrificed his body and he didn’t need to but he liked that style which ultimately ended his career quickly just like Lindros. Ironically they were traded for each other.

Geez time flies. I remember being a kid and my brother and I talking about hey that forsberg goal was sick wasn't it and would try doing it in street hockey. Would also always try and do the kamensky goal as well. Honestly time flies, it's so crazy. Feels like I was just a kid watching the avs panthers final and how exciting it was to watch them. Sakic and forsberg were the ultimate duo. Loved my sabres but liked that avs team.

Forsberg in '03 (especially) was really something next level. Unmatched to this day imo.
Born and raised in the same town as #21 i'm obviously somewhat biased, but for me he's the goat.
One of my fav for sure and Joe said it right about his grit and skill. I remember being frustrated because he played real hard and also caught a lot of roughness from opponents which must have been punishing on his body. I wanted him to avoid a bit more of that physical game in order to reduce injury but that was part of his game- he didn't back down.
@crawlFace There's a story told by Ray Bourque where he said to Forsberg: "You know Peter, you don't have to play that hard every night." regarding his physical play. Peter just smiled back at him and replied: "But that's what I like."

Exactly. Thanks to that the Avs now are one of the scariest teams in the NHL. Lindros the smuck. He was fairly good too though, but should have trained harder, stopped yapping with his nasty attitude, avoided injuring/crushing people abusing the size he brought, and atleast tried to avoid becoming a laughing stock with his refusal of playing with the Nordics. The Nordics/Avs made probably the best trade of all time there.

Worth mentioning is that Forsberg had several critical injuries throughout his carear and refused to stay off the ice. Constantly it felt like his carrear was over but he managed to come back, probably playing with every painkiller allowed. And here in the clip they showed some goals but I want to say that his way to move the puck and assist his players in to beatuful goals was what gave him all the trophys. This was also why he kept being injured. The opponents had to use every dirty trick possible in desperation to make Forsberg lose the puck or it would be a goal in a few seconds
If you win two World Cups, two Olympic gold medals and especially two Stanley Cups, maybe it isn't that you were lucky to be on great teams - maybe it's you.

@@mikelambert9470 Forsberg led the league in scoring after the first two rounds in the playoffs, he along with Roy was the reason the Avalanche made it to the Conference Final that year.
The problem with Peter was that he could've scored on every single puck cuz of his power and skill...but he was too nice of a person... he had to share the puck

It wasn’t about him being too nice. He lacked confidence in his shooting ability even though he had a great wrist shot and slap shot. He never worked through his mental confidence block unfortunately.
He was very tiny at a young age and has explained in Swedish interviews that he had to think smarter than the other players to win the one on one battles in the corners etc. So obviously he thought that he was too weak to shoot hard when he was a junior. That self image followed him throughout his whole carrier.
The question is: do the Hall of Fame deserve him?
I always wished Forsberg would have spent his entire career in Philly. He was simply phenomenal to watch.

That’s 1st team all star. At the end of the year they pick the best player of that position and they are announced first or second team. Totally different than mid season all star games.
