    2024 Update video: • Lexus LS460 OEM Contro...
    Lexus LS460 control arm failure and knocking noises are a common issue and complaint on these vehicles. Watch my videos and you can fix that!
    2007-2009 (and 2010-2011) Lexus LS460 RWD CAN upgrade to the revised 2012-2017 control arms. Lexus does NOT advertise this. Maybe they just want you to buy a newer car!
    1) The steering knuckle is the same 07-17. This is good news if we are going to start swapping different part numbers control arms. That tells us the geometry is going to be the same.
    2) The front lower arm was revised from silver to the black painted version, per the TSB related to knocking noise when braking.
    www.clublexus....
    3) The original part numbers for this front lower arm are 48620-59015 and 48640-59015. The revised part numbers are for the 2012+ fitment and are 48620-59035 with 59055 replacing that one and 48640-59035 with 59045 replacing that one. Based on the TSB, Lexus confirmed that 07-17 lower front arms interchange, but websites only show the new part numbers as fitting 2012+. Beware! If you have a 2007-2011 there is a great chance that Lexus will sell you the old, original silver arms referred in the TSB.
    3) Lastly, while there is nothing official, the same conclusion can be said about the revised lower main arms that only show fitment for 12-17. Original 2007 part numbers are 48620-50070 and 48640-50070. The revised better bushing versions show on websites as "only" fitting 2012+ and are 48640-50131 and 48620-50131. Beware! If you have a 2007-2011 there is a great chance that Lexus will sell you the old, bad arms seen in this video.
    These are the part numbers you need to order:
    Lower main RH 48620-50131 RWD only 2013 upgraded arm
    Lower main LH 48640-50131 RWD only 2013 upgraded arm
    Lower Main RH 48620-50081 AWD only
    Lower Main LH 48640-50081 AWD only
    Front Lower RH 48620-59055 RWD only 2013 upgraded arm
    Front Lower LH 48640-59045 RWD only 2013 upgraded arm
    Front Lower RH (2) 48660-59016 AWD only
    Front Lower LH (2) 48670-59016 AWD only
    Front Upper RH (1) 48610-59125 RWD / AWD
    Front Upper RH (1) 48610-59135 RWD only
    Front Upper RH (1) 48610-59145 AWD only
    Front Upper LH (1) 48630-59125 RWD / AWD
    Front Upper LH (1) 48630-59135 RWD only
    Front Upper LH (1) 48630-59145 AWD only
    Knuckles with pressed in ball joints
    43202-59075
    43201-59045
    The video doesn't specifically cover the upper arms, but there are old part numbers of the upper arms. Unsure if the rubber or design was changed to improve longevity, but the part numbers above are the "2012-2017" revised P/Ns.

      same thing happened to me! twice! lol cuz I replaced the bushing with Febest, my wife drove a bunch of UPS delivery as a contractor and did who knows how many lock to lock U-turns, bushing failed after 6k miles, i'm just going to do the revised arm now instead of trying to save money on just replacing the bushing

    Well I took your advice. Got all new 2013-2017 control arms. Put them on my 2012. No issues, no problems with fitment or alignment. Cars drives great once again.

    Awesome video, thanks! I replaced my struts with KYB gas adjusts and aftermarket upper control arms. Looks like I need Lower rear control arms and am thinking going 2013+ oem per this vid.
    I have 48640-50131 and 48620-50131 in my partsmonster cart, right?
    Also, will it make a terrible difference if the uppers were aftermarket and the lowers are oem 13+?

      If you torque them right in the middle the will move the least in either direction up or down.
      If you torque them all the way down they will have to move twice as much in one direction going up, and twice as much in the opposite direction if you reverse that

    • @LILEVO

    Did you replace the ball joints that connect the rearward lower control arm and if so do you have a video how to remove them or is it possible to remove them without air tools? My parts have been sitting in the shipping boxes for 2 weeks because I looked at that ball joint and just know I will end up tearing the rubber and have to replace it. Even though everything else is an easy job, that ball joint looks like it'll be nearly impossible for me to remove.

    • @LILEVO
      @LILEVO  Před 3 lety +1

      It wasn't an issue with a 5lb hammer and air chisel. The lower rear arms popped right out of the ball joint

    • @LILEVO
      @LILEVO  Před 3 lety +1

      There are no aftermarket bushings out there that are anywhere near the quality of OEM. That is why they are so cheap. You would likely be redoing the whole repair in 5-10k miles again. I learned my lesson on that. Same goes for the upper arms

    • @Persocondes
      @Persocondes Před 3 lety +1

      @Glenn Wisse I can totally confirm with what he said about the aftermarket bushings, I replaced mine with bushings only, and from Febest which is suppose to be higher quality non-OEM option, only lasted 6k miles although, i thought it was because my wife did many many lock to lock U-turns when driving for UPS contract delivery, so I replaced the bushing after she quit UPS. Nope, new bushing failed after another 6k miles. Even the high end polyurethane bushings will fail, not because the poly deteriorates, it fails because the bushing will not stay in the original position on the shaft and will shift forward, thus changing the Toe angle of the wheel when under braking, and shift back to the rear position when turning in towards the center of the car.
