    I understand that true tone is calibrated with the OG display and logic board from factory. But it seems true tone should still work it just won't be as good. Or could Apple have some way of sensing if its connected to the non stock display and just turn true tone off completly until they calibrate it themselves. I could see them doing such a thing. Hope news about this comes out in time since I have this phone myself and would love to calibrate the display myself or bite the bullet and deal with Apple to get true tone back. If it turns out they do turn it off and only they can re calibrate and turn it back on.
    Doesn't this mean True tone will work just not as well as a stock sealed phone would rit? Also if this is true what will the effect be on the end user if the true tone works but just isn't calibrated to the new display. Will it randomly activate with out rational reason, assuming it should activate in said situation since its using the old screen calibration as its basis? Perhaps. Things like that or any other issues u could see happening would help us out a lot.
    Thanks,

      @@jonmarler I understand that its not calibrated to the best it should be and all. But from what your saying it seems true tone still works its just not calibrated to the minor new variables that comes with said new display. Since all are slightly different.
      Thanks,

    • @sohibetaha223
      @sohibetaha223 Před 4 lety +1

      This happens because apple doesn’t like people repairing their own devices & mostly iPhone repair shops so in the iOS 12 update they made it that all screen repairs have to be programmed with the serial number of the phone. This requires a special machine. It is called a EEPROM programmer. I repair iPhones a lot so I have the machine but you also have to keep in mind that if you do rip your front camera and replace it you will no longer have Face ID and True Tone will also be disabled. Everything is now programmed together which is why this is happening

      it will still exist its just that with each phone true tone is calibrated to that specific display and its unique quarks. Therefore since we have no way to hardware calibrate the phone to the NEW display ourselves as repairers. Then we will have to deal with the fact that the phone will be relying on old calibration data to operate true tone.
      Meaning it will work I think, but it just won't be as accurate. Not by much I imagine but it will still be an issue. So don't fret basically, you should be fine. And in time someone will release software to calibrate the new display with true tone software just gotta wait.
