The blinker fluid and muffler bearing comments made me laugh thank you for that!
This is the best video
Yep Bahahahaha
Holy shit! I never knew my 4 stroke had reeds!! I broke my muffler bearings trying to get to it but now I have it.
jjhack3r- haha, I busted out laughing when he said that!!!
Only Metric measured, all European models have these Wonderful bearings, that were invented by NASA by the way. American two strokes do not use these because of strict environmental concerns , as to the Fact that they make the motors TOO DAMN FAST!!! Thanks for watching and respect.
no they dont
xpgek/-they are being facetious!!! Lol
Holly Shit!!! Muffler Bearings! Fuck thats funny!
I have removed the reed restrictor plates from my bike before. It does work but the problem that eventually shows from doing that is the reeds start to deform slightly and stop making a good seal when returning back to the block. This makes your bike consume a lot more fuel then it normally would. The other risk is the reed has a bigger chance of breaking and going into the cyclinder which will make u have to replace the top end because the piston and rings will get damaged. Could possibly seize the engine as well. I had the fuel consumption problem and got lucky by replacing the reeds and putting the reed restrictor plates back on before they broke. All that being said, you do get maximum power from removing the restrictor plates. It’s a risk.
Found it!!! Right next to the blinker fluid. Thank you!
:) same here im also a mechanic before in trucks car and bus . and now on motor cycle .
i loved people like u sharing, learning . i like it also .
DIOSpeedDemon - "If it is a 4 stroke is hard to find..." LOL ;-) That was a nice one. But do you realize there will be a lot of people looking for it. Nice video keep sharing. Thanks.
A little humor now and then , brightens everyones day. thank for watching, rh dsde
this may not sound nice but you should just get to the point of what your TRYING to say.
yes it would be very hard to find reed valves on a four stroke .....they dont have them.................
I am going to award you the CAPTAIN OBVIOUS award of the week !!!
he said they had them in the video.i was trying to help the confused people at home.i forgot we are on the internet.nothing is accurate or true.so go leave stupid comments to someone else.
they are to the left of the mufflerbearings.. did you not listen XD
Rob Kugler yeah and they only have Muffler bearings on this six Strokes
I have reed valves on my 4 stroke. 1981 xr500r. check it out.
Thanks man! There is a reed valve on my 4t europe peugeot kisbee and mine was broken. No dealer knew about it and after replacing it, my bike feels as new again. Rob and other reactions below it I find them rude rude and silly. I'm glad that my problem is fixed by this.
I appreciate your sense of humor, cheers :)
I have had this same reed and system in my Dio for 3 years now and it works perfect from start up to WFO- (WIDE F#CKING OPEN) throttle. It does not look factory perfect, but it works like a Ferrari.
Haha that intro! Brilliant.
The blinker fluid!
Everyone needs a good laugh to start the day. Thanks for watching. RAndy.
Thank you for this video
i love this guy
Lol I’m dead, your jokes at the start reminded me of the pranks we would pull on all the new guys at the machine shop
I really appreciate this video because I never knew anything about motors until I got a gt70 and I been adding upgrades and trying to learn everything I can so thanks a million for making this video
There is over 3000 other motorcycle videos on this channel on all phases of motorcycle work. Thanks for watching. R
Engines! Motors are electric! Pro tip #1 oh another pro tip don't listen to the comedian in this vid though every word is 100%true like muffler bearings, not a real part but created and perfected by mechanics humorous bones lol shhhhhh let everyone know why don't you! peace out made me laugh more than learn anything. kool instructional or is it educational? ah yep
Thanks for sharing your knowledge about reed valvd
Check my video list- there are 3000 other little moped videos and all free. Thanks for the kind words.
Best bit about this vid.....Don't be afraid to ask, ask ,ask until you get it!! My sentiments exactly sir.
best ever! A must have for all!
Thank you for your Kind words. RANDY H
Blinker fluid 😅 I love it
Ha! there is a 4 stroke with a reed valve,it is the 1981-82 Honda XR500. those were there to eliminate the low engine speed cough and stall when nailing the throttle.
Wtf that's neat
Thank you from France, the south City of Toulouse.
you make a good teacher (priest)
Khalifa Shakur I always wanted to go to France and see the great history of the Country. Maybe one day when I retire. Thanks for the kind words my friend.
Yer video just maid my day I haven't laughed that hard all day
Just ordered a new fmf loudspeaker for my 2 stroke and also changed the lamp oil. Runs fast AF now!
FMF is my favorite racing jersey in 1976. It stands for Flying Machine Factory, but I think it stands for FAST M** F***
Am from the bahamas I have a 250 yz an have reed problems .love the way u broke it down,am mew to this 😅
This chan is my #1 place for misinformation
You are my no.1 misinformed Fan...
It works
Im sure in certai applications harmonics can also cause the reeds to over extend requiring the reed stops to limit travel and arrest the excitations.
You made a great video. BTW...i think you'll be a exellent teacher..
I am a SR. engine development technician for a leading snowmobile manufacture I have done two stroke engine development for twenty years, all I can say about this guy is (WOW!)
Is that wow an insult or compliment? All I know is that combining the best quality top technology reed valve material, which is Boyeson reeds AND fine tuning your mass produced reed cage to be PERFECTLY flat and PERFECTLY sealed, the bottom, mid-range and Top end performance of an two stroke engine can be dramatically improved and I have proved this with this particular reed valve that has lasted two years and works EXCELLENT!!@ thanks for watching RH DSD
July 2021: I came here in lieu of jet ski modification, but the concept is the same. THANKS for the great breakdown and description!
Glad it was helpful!
This video made me want to pull my eyes out
nice info tq
This is a pretty good idea, the only problem i could see is if a piece of your reed broke off and got sucked under your crankcase (2 stroke) that would be some really BAD news. So if your gonna do this id replace the valve one every year or two.
He failed to mention that a bigger/stronger piston return spring will add more power when coupled to a new power band..😉
stop
I run my cr 500 without my reed stoppers ,when you have them in it only restricts them about 1/4" 3/8 " from being stopped by your intake ceiling any way .
I was experimenting with this when i was twelve .on a 82 rm 125 simple concept
Make sure to not put the screws back on the reed valve when re installing for proper MAXIMUM Power
That reed valve 4 stroke comparison was gold. My friends would have been stumped
He needs some "sky hooks" to hang all that stuff thats crowding his table. When's part2. I swapped all my muffler bearings with a guy on shpock who had a box of random giggling pins, thingymebobs, whatchyamacallits and some tartan paint. Wicked video.
use a spacer to push back your stop plate
i have used old feeler gauges cut down to fit and there thickness is stamped right on them
sir thank for your vid...it's really help my suzuki address 100...more speed!!
Thank you for your shared knowledge
+HOT SHOT 1500 Why do you think this way, I found this helpful for me and my bike is running fine after I did this, if you think you can do better than him do a video about it
+HOT SHOT 1500 And if you don't get it (when he's talking about the reeds on a 4-stroke, muffler bearing and indicator fluid) you do not know enough about motorcycles. He is trolling if you don't know :D
DONT LESSON TO THIS GUYS SPALLING.....
Yas, I know alot about 2-stroke engines, but I didn't understandhow the reeds work but, DIOSpeedDemon explained it
Do they all supposed to have a reed spring in it? My 99 kx250 does not
Reed flaps are thin and will break over time if they flex too far, That's why it has that stopper.
V Force Reed's come with their own housing if you look them up you would know that
What about reed valves on 6 strokes? Same principle?
What
@@xpertgabiyt3715 with a six stroke you will make a mess in your hand
sure I can do that I seen it on CZcams!
Funny. You make MXA look smart today.
What about grinding the exhaust out let port on the head (Restrictor) as well as doing this to the reds?
Thank you, Teacher .
Now I have some idea what reed valves are. I am considering having a really fast two stroke scooter when I can fit it into the budget. I currently have a four stroke 125 cc GROM mini-moto and I am getting tired of wasting money on state mandated insurance and tags....
At last talley , 7 states, "I think" , do not require tag or plate on 49cc and South Carolina does not even require driver license for small Engine scooters... South Carolina does however enforce a minimum age of 13 for scooter operation on street. Otherwise, same rules as bicycle...
South Carolina is unique in this.
I am not aware of any other states that require no driver license to operate a scooter or moped on the streets.
1981 XR 500 has a reed valve and its a four stroke!
I cant find the blinker directional fluid or muffler bearings.
good
Like the 4 stroke joke lol but thanx for the tips never though a bout my Reed valve as that important but now I'm gonna go work on my reeds
DIOSpeedDemon I really apreciate your work im from India and if your dio was here it would be the fastest non geared bike ever.. Keep posting more videos.
Are Dios very popular in India? I ride alone all the time because there is so few mopeds of any kind in the Continental United States, thanks for the great comments, RH DSD
LMAO I love the description on the 4stroke reeds and chromed bearings couldn't be simpler put... Defiantly helped out ,..too bad I gave away all my 4ts to children Because all 2ts for us adults only! :)
@DioSpeedDemon, your Videos shure get my attention, realy interesting what you Show and tell, Tank you for that :)
I got a TZR125 RR wich has in the open version about 30 BHP, do you think that this tiny Engine has still the capacity/ room to increase its Power ? ...i mean 30 BHP is a lot for a smal 125cc 2 Stroke Engine right ?
"Jus look at ur reeds" hehe... EPIC...
Luke Vaidyan Those reeds are two stage Boyeson 125 reeds that I fabricated to fit the DIO, They work perfect even after three years. I am a Genius....
Some people do not know this but, reed valves on 4 stroke engines are used because of the overlap and duration of the intake lobe on the cam, if there was not a reed valve there some of the a/f mix would come back into the carb.
So to tune it as I understand from your video, I take it apart and look at it and put it back together?
+Mike Montgomery No, first you must align the dual chrome muffler bearing adjustments, till they track due east. All Reed screwed must be weighed, filed to the lowest weight and put in with the slots pointed toward the front of the engine and not anywhere else. This work must always be done on the first Tuesday of the month to provide the best Karma for optimal speed and power performance. The blue oval performance mat used in the video must be precisely 9-1/2 inches in diameter, (the exact length of my enourmous Johnson). Lastly you must pay more attention to the contents of the video instead of asking Stupid Questions....Then yes, you put it...back...together...Forrest Gump.
0:45 The bloke was supposed to be joking but some KTM 4 stroke Enduro bikes DO have reed valves in the induction system.
Hi i have question it's irrelevant to this vid but I got a 72cc af16 with pg long 28 oko and just wonder how I can fine tune it to have better off the start throttle response as of now it's lagging quite a bit
Replaced the reed valves for my pw80 drag racing build and I’m telling you the stock 2003 reeds were in it and they were pretty shitty looking I replaced them and I had a lot better throttle response and she started easier and rand so much better
i want to try this.. 😁
2 stroke reed valve to me like intake valve in 4 stroke..
work to open and close fuel to combustion chamber when engine running..👍
Great point! In my Playlists , I have very Recently Catalogued all my videos on this Subject- Check them out !! thank you.... All Free!!!
Remove the 4t cylinder head and cam chain and fit a 2t cylinder head, then fit a reed valve to the carb.
My three-stroke has the reed valves next to the power band.
I like the way you think !
I usually find that the chrome muffler bearings do not have the lifespan of the higher quality nikasil bearings. Also when replacing said bearings it is advisable to use a proper lubricant for the carrot.
Nikasil Racing Cylinder Bearings cannot be beat and were originally developed to Power the American Space shuttle in its quest for breaking earths gravitational orbit. I would love to buy some, but they are made only in Iceland and extremely expensive to export. Also the customs permits are outrageous at this time. I am sure you have the same problem. Thanks RH SDD
I fully Concurr with your findings on proper bearing replacement and maintenance of said Muffler Bearing High Quality, mark 5- Components. RH DSD
Make sure you use yellow lithium grease for best nikasil muffler bearing performance. By all means, NEVER use synthetic muffler bearing lubes, the muffler will over rev and you will have a run away engine and eventual total melt down. If you can't find yellow lithium grease, it is ok to substitute with Vaseline instead as it is the only other officially acceptable muffler bearing lubricant that is readily available in the states.
Next to the power band
I ported my muffler bearing for more power but needed to remove the reeds for more wheelie power in my 4 stroke. With them it wasn’t hitting the power band 😅🤦🏻♂️
some 80s honda 4 strokes actually had reed valves - no joke
Man I took my muffler bearings off and I cant find my red valve anyplace by it? Should I check under the flex capacitor?
I always look under the Radiator filler on all my Air-Cooled engines!! I have many more videos on my Recently Updated Channel Playlists, check em out! Thank you. DSD
I have a new set of reed petals I am installing one side is waxy texture and other is smooth texture.... what side is facing inside engine to case and vice versa what side has air/fuel entering against it.... I put the waxy side touching the cage so the air fuel mixture will touch the waxy side of the pedal... let me know if I need to change orientation.... these are R&D dominator m16 reed cages, also noticed this reed kit doesn't come with reed stops and are prone to premature chipping and wear.... would it hurt to add my own custom stops from the stock cages?
Great question, I would use the smooth side against the Rib cage where the reed material touches. Reeds stops May come with new Reed valve cages, but never with just reeds. you can build your own, but metal fatigue can cause them to become brittle and snap and get sucked into the enginee. That is your call to try this.
Can you please add a part two and three to this video?
I have Hundreds of more INteresting Videos on This and other Subjects on my Updated Playlists, Please watch. Thank You.
I got to get some of that blinker fluid 🤣
Just lucky for YOU , sir- I can send you some TOTALLY FREE!!, just for the $49.00 shipping and handling.....!!! I want to help you Out... RH
first of all, nice educational video man,
i can see you have a real gift for these sorts of things,
might i add that maybe it isnt such a good idea to leave the springs of,
especially when considering that some bikes have metal reeds...
and like you said, they can become quiet fatiqued and without those springs, they will sooner break and make your bike go clank clank in wich a "chaos like" revising operation is necessary... ofcourse what i am saying increases its moral value exponentiolly, the more tuned or the more rounds per minute the engine can deliver...
also messing around with the pre ignition ( wich some Capacitor discharge ignition (cdi's) units are tuned for) may cause these puppies togo bambam.. so yeah,
anyway thanks for the video,
i liked watching it.
regards,
a Ðا operative
Valentino- {very cool name by the way}, You make a very good point. My racing books say that the stops can sometimes limit the valve opening to full potential. On the other hand- With the valves flapping all over, they can tend to create a weak spot at the base of the reed and crack and snap off. I have tried both ways just to experiment and I find that the stops are better for throttle consistency at high speeds. I meant the springs instead of the stops. With the Boyeson custom reed material in my new reeds, it is like three times as thick as a normal off the shelf reed. Thank you for the kind words, Randy H
can i put it on my 80cc yamaha 2 stroke and how?
What does Honda Polaris
Didn't know CT was so common, reminds me of exigent circumstances.
Next to the muffler berrings, check blinker fluid check.
I alway do check the blinker fluid and the Anti-Freeze fill cap, on all my Air-Cooled engines!! My Recently Updated PlayLists have catalogued all my videos on this subject and much more! thanks
Cheers man gunna take a look at the reeds in my speedfight !! Carbon fibre any good as can't get hold of boysen ??
Carbon fiber is fine, as long as you can get ahold of Real carbon fiber material and not grey colored plastic that looks like carbon. I ordered the Boysen reeds for a CR125 and prayed I could cut them down to size. I did this three years ago and never looked back. I took the reed cage and carefully sanded the edges down smooth, so the reeds had a flat, tight fit when closed and the bike works really really good. I have some videos on installing the Boysen reed material and I am happy as can be with the results, RH DSD
Oh now i see my reed valves on my 4 stroke, right next to the blinker directional fluid how could I be so blind!
mr. can i ask a question is it ok to remove the stopper to stock reed cage and replace it spring to make more power
tnx
I am sure you are not a factory trained boat buyer with any years experience. One video, and 4 views against 30,000,000 million total channel views? Lets hope your factory trained Honda work, was better than your hole in the boat fixer upper...
No insult or complement intended (just a statement), about the knowledge and the lack there of on reed valve design. We all need time to learn but good information from good sources is a must, might I recommend an S.E.A. publication, (DR. Gordon P. Blair’s book, The design and Simulation of Two Stroke Engines) learn the basics like reed block design flow area, realize how reed natural frequency effects design, understand how different types of fiber material and epoxy’s and reed thicknesses effect reed natural frequency’s and the performance of a given reed material, understand the relationships between design flow area and flow resistance, understand the effects of crankcase primary compression ratios and how they effect a given reed design ECT, and no you don’t need to be an engineer to understand this stuff you do how ever need to have good sound information, S.A.E. publications are usually a very good and trustworthy source.
See I listen to you now my blinkers are leaking fluid, and my muffler bearings came apart,🤦 I guess I should upgrade the dozer valve on my carb to help the fuel injection work better!
Do I pull the conniption pins to remove the muffler bearings?
+L Malino I can see your a man who knows his Engines. Only European Metric bearings have the Conniption pins, BUT= There is a left and right pin and YOU CANNOT MIX THEM UP!! Of course a man of your learning already knows this and no DisRespect meant. America muffler bearings, Especially Borg/Warner super muffler bearings, Have high performance Conniption pins that can be purchased from Snap On I believe. They also sell the only tool that removes these little Devils. I also bought some high quality Board-Stretchers from Snap on. Thanks for watching RH DSD
Very good videos to go to sleep.... 5 minites job in 7 videos.....
And what does honda-Polaris
Do 3 strokes have muffler bearings?
Only the Metric ones....
They are the best those metric ones, Royal with cheese : )
3 stroke Technology has come along way since in the beginning all they had was the 2-Stroke, French, Double Reach-around... RH DSD
Special order muffler bearings
@@ghost500e or it could just be a loose nut behind the wheel
What The setting adjustment on Reed valves I set mine at 16 thousands and runs great! Lol
Very informative thank you. voice sounds like Vin diesel.
+Shawn Dubay Vin Diesel has the coolest voice. Most people say I sound like Jeff Bridges. Two great actors.
Early Honda xr500 has reed valves in them
Yes they did, I love those Old Bikes !!! My Recently Updated PlayLists have catalogued all my videos on this subject and much more! thanks
yeah man those muffler bearings always cause my blue powerband to fall out and hit my blinker fluid. thats why you never buy a suzukki yz 480rbe powerband
i have a 2 stroke bike when i start it, it goes well but after some time it starts to make jerky motion & engine heat up too much i don't know what is the problem recently (7 days back) i changed my piston. i don't wana lose my bike, please help ....
thank you.
your mix is to lean try maxima 920 racing castor mix at 40;1 buy a ratio rite or any mix cup never use bargin brands unless you have too. the 920 is the best out there #bean oil
my Polaris 250 dosent have reeds but my cr80 dose and they don't have reed springs just stoppers and reeds
I know this is from 2013, however. I'd like to give everyone some tips, if they haven't been discovered yet.
You want the reeds to be narrower than the width of the reed block. Not only will this ensure that the reed doesn't rub against the intake, it will decrease the weight of the reed, giving you snappier throttle response. Trim off as mush excess reed material as possible, leaving 1/32 of overlap.
Removing the reed stop will allow the reed to open farther, if there is enough air flow, at the expense of shortening the life of the reed due to fatigue.
Removing the stop is probably a good way to have broken reed chunks scaring up the piston, and cylinder.
the muffler bearing or directional fluid joke never gets old
Everyone needs a good laugh. We at work always send the new guy all over to find the Board Stretcher when our woood projects turn out too short....
How do I check my blinker fluid?
Metric or Standard blinker fluid ????
may i seek advised and tips from u sir. Im from philippines. my problem is my yamaha Dt 125 is running backward. what may the possible problem to fix sir?
I have never had a problem with a bike running backwards. That is a new one to me. Hello to the Great Nation of Philippines- home to my most greatest video watchers. Randy H DSD
I hate how all you people are taking this so seriously, dis dude is funny
How about a Polaris 250 2 stroke it has no Reed valves what are you do there
I would buy a real quality company like honda and not Polaris for a start honey.
