it was made that way so they actually had to cut off their feet to get out of the chains

I love the Saw franchise it's one of those horror collections that will live on for years to come being re watched. People who haven't watched them just say it's all gore they don't give it a chance but if they did they would see the psychological twists and turns involved which is what I love about it.
