    As a book reader, I'm happy with the first half. They made a few changes that were surprising but not horrible. But the final line of episode four is almost word for word from the book. Had me happy dancing all over the house! When a show gets that close to the book, its SO satisfying. And Francesca needs the set up, her story takes place kind of around Colin's. The meat of it being a few years after his, but the show isn't folowing the same timeline, so who knows. I think she will be one of the side plots for at least season 4 and 5. Benedict should be next, and then Eloise. Then Francesca. Hyacinth would be before Gregory if they're following book order, which they haven't, since Benedict is book three and Colin is book four.

    I think Penelope kind of made herself into a wallflower to some extent since she would try to be unnoticed to get gossip and she wouldn't look at anyone but Colin. The dresses don't help, but her sisters have had ugly dresses too. They all have much better clothes this season, but Penelope has to get them on their own.

    Too many outside characters and sub plots. I wanted more character development and to see Penelope and Collin’s friendship from the beginning. It wasn’t believable to me and I wasn’t invested because I don’t know them as friends. It was cute and the carriage made me smile but also grossed out at the same time. Like brother and sister. It felt more like lust than love. There was no why Collin’s feelings changed or even how and when Penelope’s developed. I loved loved loved Francesca and John. 🥰🔥🥰😍 That silence is everything! Can’t wait..also the new actress is stunning!!

    • @Julie-hf4ch
      @Julie-hf4ch Před 19 dny +1

      it was nice to watch but as a romantic myself, I would have written this part differently, I expected more connection, passion, self-discovery, fight for love, more expression of love and feelings, make the characters worthy of each other.
      I didn't like Colin's portrayal as going to prostitutes and having threesomes, nor the 'steamy' carriage sequence and I felt everything else rushed too..My focus went on Francesa and her young love for the new Earl, rather than focusing on Penelope and Colin. I thought of Colin and Penelope as pure young people, saving themselves for love and marriage, different from the rest of the couples within the old times society, they cherished their friendship, trusted and respected each other. changing a character's personality, considering that Colin's one was very well established, it made him look like a totally different person. give this couple their personality and dignity back.
      I prefer to see their love gradually developing, discovering the feelings they have for each other, especially his feelings for her and what she means to him and what they have in common, rather than pushing quickly with intimate sexual moments. Sadly, the script didn't make their bond and connection convincing and genuine. I prefer less sexual scenes between them and seeing more talk, more love, what do they expect from their future together, to see them chatting more before touching each other in a sexy desire way.
      I wanted to understand what actually brought them closer, how he remembered their history together, how their friendship started, how it progressed, how he sees her after all these years, did he realise that she had feelings for him before? if yes, when? we didn't see that on the screen. he should have found out somehow that she loved him all these years, reason to love and adore her more, this is a reason for marriage. before he wants her physically, what does he actually feel for her? can we see Penelope through his eyes and what does she mean to him as a woman, what does he like about her personality? for these people true and honest untainted love was their life purpose, that's why pushing this couple so quickly into sexual scenes kills their chemistry and love story.
      I actually think they lacked chemistry because of the script, although they look nice together on screen. I also think, given these 2 people, there was so much potential to articulate their love, I would have never thought that while Penelope was older and mature, she was still innocent, virgin and introvert and would not allow him to touch her so soon, make him wait, make him wait more, be worthy and desire her truly. Given his personality, I thought that he would not want to be inappropriate with her, not until their feelings are clear and they grow closer to discover each other. these were very good old friends and one expects that they would firstly discover who is the other person when they are not in a friendship relationship before moving on to the next step. firstly, he must deserve her and secondly, she must be convinced that Colin actually has fallen in love with her...can someone rectify their love story in the second part of season 3?

    • @Hania2207
      @Hania2207 Před 19 dny +2

      I mean, I keep seeing a few people complaining about it, but I think people need to understand that this story is different from the previous ones.
      Unlike Kate and Simon, who were both new to the balls and both brothers, Anthony and Daphne, didn't know these people, Pen and Colin have known each other since they were children.
      For the other two couples, it kind of started with a mutual attraction and with misunderstandings and bad communication between the couples, and during the episodes of their seasons, they got to know each other more deeply and thus fell in love and solved the problems they had in the final.
      As I said, Pen and Colin, there's no reason to have this. They've both known each other since they were children, it's not something new. Their story/ this season has already started with love because, yes, friendship is love.
      Since the first season, and if we are to use our imagination and think that their story began much earlier as children- imagine them play together with Eloise etc, they have been showing us how they understand and care for each other and respect each other too.
      Colin always searched for Pen at the balls to talk to her and make jokes about society, how Pen is the only one who really pays attention to the philosophies that Colin wants to share with others about the trips he takes, but no one cares, except Pen. How he talks it easily, as he doesn't do it with anyone else, the insecurities he feels because he doesn't feel like he hasn't found his purpose in life yet and Pen also shares her dreams with him. Colin asks Pen if she's okay when he feels something is wrong because he knows when something isn't right because he knows her better than anyone. How he defends Pen's family, because of her of course, the look of admiration and connection they both give at each other in the ball in season 1 when they are making jokes or in the second season, the look of longing he gives her when he returns from his trips and see her after months, or the look of enchantment he gives Pen when she tells him about her dreams, the letters exchanged between them, Colin defending Pen from Cressida, Colin dancing with her because he truly likes dancing with Penelope, breaking all the rules of etiquette with Penelope etc etc etc, this moments, for the high society of the 19th century, it is literally them already courting each other, so much so that Fife in the last episode of the last season asks if Colin was courting her, they practically behave as married people might behave towards each other at that century. They know each other a thousand times more than many couples who got married in the 19th century.
      The difference is that with Pen's insecurities, she thinks there's no chance of him wanting to be with her and Colin who doesn't see beyond their friendship (perhaps for fear of losing her friendship) and can't see beyond the little girl he met many years ago, they both remain in this friendship that borders on something more, but without both realising it.
      Of course, there are certain things that, even as friends, we have difficulty sharing, but they already have the important foundation in a love story. Friendship, understanding, respect, protection, admiration, and loyalty.
      What was missing in their relationship, unlike the other couples, was desire. Even Pen, who already had the idea that she was in love with him, was more innocent and without any idea of the awakening of sexual desire in their relationship and the same thing happens to him, Colin from the first season who never went to a brothel as Anthony says, so he was probably a virgin and in the second season he didn't even want to think about women, the only women he let near him were his sisters, his mother and of course his dear friend, Penelope who is special enough to overcome the barriers he imposed.
      This season, they are exploring more in this first part, it is the desire that awakens in both parties after the first kiss, meanwhile Colin tries to help Pen and at the same time he tries to suppress what he feels and the desire to continue to go to her like before and talk freely without holding back and without needing to change his personality like he is doing with the people around him.
      Literally, when Pen reads his diary that he's been with women and writes, "I'm amazed at how it's possible to feel so much intimacy, but also such great distance.", it's basically him admitting that he's in shock that one person can be with people so intimately, but without a sentimental connection and this bothers him a lot and he tells his "friends" in the bar, how much he feels lonely. He can't be like Anthony from the first season, or Benedict or any man in society, he doesn't feel satisfied with himself by having 5 minutes of intimacy with unknown women and leaving them as if it meant nothing, he tries to follow what other men do but he doesn't likes it, he needs to feel a more deeply connection in these most vulnerable moments. Colin is posing a persona to the high society because it seems only like this people praise him, while he becomes more like himself because of Penelope, in till the point he can't no longer pretend to be someone he is not.
      He finally feels this complete connection that he longs for the moment he kisses Penelope. He feels the feelings that were always there for her and finally with a first more intimate touch with Penelope, the physical desire for Penelope finally awakes/is discovered, everything he was looking for in a person, what he was looking for since the first season and what he was looking for in the 17 cities he visited, it was always there in London in front of his house.
      And everything culminates and explodes in the carriage scene, where Colin has the courage to declare himself and has the courage to try to change the status of their relationship at the risk of losing the connection/friendship that he has always kept in his heart for Penelope so dearly and Penelope finally admits what she's always held dear: that she wants more than friendship from him. Even the first kiss, that she asked, it was already a bold move from her, the shy little girl of season 1 or 2 would never do it, but for the first time, with fear of never marrying and feel the intimacy of another person and of become a spinster, she asks to the one person she trusts and she has feelings for. It is the first time she forgets her fears and gains courage for what she really wants and with that Colin go down bad for her, so much so that he really do what he said in episode 8 of season 2, he wouldn't officially court her or wait another minute, he will take action immediately and directly ask her to marry him.

    Well, we wouldn't *all* be okay with this season focusing on Kate and Anthony again. I know a lot of people loved them, but I really, really didn't. To the point that when watching this first episode, I just skipped past all their scenes because I genuinely don't care to watch any more of them. But I know it's just a personal preference thing. • @gianellab.4953
      @gianellab.4953 Před 22 dny +8

      I'm halfway through ep 2 and might be dropping the season 😂 Here is the thing: Penelope and Colin were already not the best characters, and the series fails to make them worthy leads. Anthony was not the best in S1 but they made him so likeable and understandable in S2, it's weird they could not do the same. Colin in particular gives me zero romantic hero vibes. The Penelope-Colin duo also feels SO cringe to me. No chemistry, at least, not from what I've seen. And you are right, the number of subplots is getting ridiculous. Maybe I'll give S3 another try once part 2 is released (I so wanted to support the big girl love story), but it's not coming anywhere close to S2 or Queen Charlotte for me, unfortunately.

    • @abbygonzales9464
      @abbygonzales9464 Před 22 dny +10

      I disagree. I was disappointed by the 1st and the 2nd season. The conflict in the first was mainly miscommunication and ignorance. Daphne got everything she wanted while the Duke gave up everything he wanted and it was a forced marriage. The second one... I had a difficult time rooting for Kanthony because they were deceiving Edwina the entire time. And I hate that if it weren’t for Edwina running off, Kanthony would not have happened. It's like they got together based on someone else's decision.
      SPOILER
      S3, on the other hand, I like how they evened the playing field. Penelope realizes that Colin isn't perfect and Colin realizes that Penelope is much more charming than he thought. It's a great starting point. And given the first four eps, I like that Colin started to have feelings for Pen before Pen was being courted by Lord Debling. And the conflict was set up well with Colin saying that he'd ruin Lady Whistledown's life. And I know that a lot more things are coming based on the book, especially with the queen and Cressida.
      In terms of chemistry, I think Polin has the strongest one so far. But I also think that's based on my preferences. Because I don't find Anthony's personality attractive and maybe that's why I didn't particularly enjoy their season. As for Colin and Penelope, they're both so likeable and endearing to me. So, that adds to my love for s3 given their conflict and standing as characters.
