Looks like for Ammar this was not only changing his diet but also unlocking cooking skills lvl 100
One of the biggest reasons people eat a junk food diet rather than a healthy diet is because they don't know how to cook. Learning to cook will automatically make your diet better because there's no need for instant food anymore.
@@hannahumana1906 on top of that, it’s easier to go through a drive thru and have food in 2 minutes vs cooking a balanced meal that can take a lot of preparation and time to cook. Not to mention the fact that a combo at McDonald’s is about $7 vs going to the grocery store and spending $20-30+ on everything you’d need for a good meal (at least that’s how it is in America)
@@crooksteezy6231 what ingredients costs you $20-30 for a single meal? I can eat 4 meals, 3.5K calories for less than $7 per day buying groceries with minimal preparation.
@@bren.r what 4, well balanced meals can you make with $7
Yeah and other dude just got fat asf 😂😂
Can we see a budget breakdown of how much money Thomas spent vs how much money Ammar spent on their food. I think it would be super interesting to see.
YES
Yes exactly! I think most would be surprised.
@@squidtime12 the average cooking time wouldve been minimum 30minutes
Fast food is more affordable and more accessible, that's why it's popular especially to those who are in a budget. Organic foods are more pricey than non organic veggies.
@@squidtime12 I suggest you do a meal prep for one day for a 7 day meal. It's more convenient to just heat your meal once you get home from school.
The worst part is when your family treats you like a monster for wanting to eat healthier.. so you give or are treated poorly.. this has reaffirmed my beliefs in making myself better and healthier and to feel okay with it, thank you.
Personally I'd have a word or 2 with my family if they were treating me poorly for any reason...Let alone just doing something to BETTER myself😑.Even if they're not wanting to live that way themselves, they should be offering you encouragement...Not trying to leave you feeling torn down.I don't know what type of people you deal with but in my case I have a narcissist for a parent & he always couldn't stand 👀 my mom and I do good things to better ourselves,it always set off his insecurities🙄.Regardless keep doing what helps you live a good healthy life & just ignore anyone that can't be happy for you and show you encouragement and support🙂👍🏻.
They probably treat you like an outsider because of how elitist you are and claiming to be the better person because of your diet. It's the same I feel with these people.
@@Dazumumine do the same thing but it's because they can't imagine that the diet they eat is genuinely harmful for themselves.
whenever I visit family these days, I usually feel pretty bad after a few days of eating like crap
Bro I know this is very late but this comment was too personal for me not to reply. Its like when I was fat sack of potatoes I literally got fatshamed and criticised but the moment I started a strict diet, my biggest obstacle was my own family continuously pestering me to break my diet and all
I'm a really bad binge eater, but after watching not even 10 minutes of the video, seeing how it's affecting Thomas and how much energy Ammar has.. it makes me want to take that leap to just start eating healthy. It's gonna be hard but.. shit. I think I might do it.
How did it go?
@@Beautiful_Sound_1995 not that good 🙃
@@BlueTemplex Do you wanna talk about it?
@@BlueTemplex lol
@Templex do it gradually! Try for at least one piece of fruit a day and bump it up over time. Hide veggies in chili, and make smoothies, things like that. I had to crash healthy eating because my health was getting worse, and some days I was just starving, but I lost five pounds in a few weeks. It's worth it, you'll feel better and look better in just a few months. And I felt amazing when I got the recommended 8 glasses of water a day! Try again!
wish they did a medical check up beforehand, blood tests and stuff, would of been interesting to see a before and after comparison
Other youtubers have done this before, for example i think i've seen a video from both Stephanie Buttermore and erikthelectric or one of them and conclusion was that your body maintains very delicate balance SO WELL that a day, a week or even multiple months of eating bad doesn't necessarily alter anything in your body and if it does, it does it at such a tiny fraction which very soon before you know it is back to normal levels.
Doesn't matter as much, I mean one week isn't suddenly gonna reverse everything, Ammar's bloodproteins that is bind to sugar (HBA1) is still higher than someone's HBA1 who eats healthy. however it's a start.

fun fact, in my country eating fast food are still considered "cool" by majority of the people, mom often bring their kids to fast food places to celebrate their kids achievements for example, it emits prestige vibes if you eat there, because it's modern, western, and for a price of a set of big mac you can literally have enough to buy 3 days worth of fresh from the farm ingredients.

As someone who loves cooking, the best feeling is eating a dish with a lot of vegetables that you made and that tastes good
I'm so glad that I got over the unhealthy food. Since I started eating healthy, my anxiety has improved enormously like I can't even remember when was the last time I had anxiety attack. Now I believe that a lot of sickness come from poor nutrition.
"Red blood cells, white blood cells...and chocolate milk" I felt this too hard
I've always said the trick to staying awake is to not let too much blood seep into your caffeine stream.
Fun fact: if you put bottles of wine and spices around your stove while cooking, people will think you actually know how to cook.
Imma do this.
Have a shelf with 2 fancy cookbooks and stacks of printed recipes none of which have ever been used for good measure 😏 I need to get around to actually learning to cook from recipes oof my style of cooking so far is just put a bunch of random vegetables together and cook them and if it turns out bad give it to the chickens
Bottles of whole spices look so fancy: peppercorns, star anise seeds, cardamom pods. Plus buy the carrots with green tops attached and just lay a couple on the counter as if your going to use them soon. Sprinkle rock salt with your fingers in a fancy flourish and slap a fresh slice of lemon or lime on every plate, and voila, you're a gourmet.
How to impress the ladies 10½ hahaha

I'm a college student who is also into body building so I try to eat healthy everyday. The thing is, it's so damn expensive! Imagine if they made fast food more expensive and healthy foods less expensive. I wonder if more people would make the switch or if it would stay the same since people are addicted to junk food
It’s like that sadly in the states, I’m in Thailand and the fresh local food is cheaper than McDonald’s:(
It’s all about money and addiction in the states but praying you can eat healthy and stay on cheap budget

BALANCE IS KEY! I cannot preach this enough. a 80-20 % of more wholesome foods and then the goodies is great. cutting anything out is never good
Cutting added sugars out is not bad thing?
Goody fruits, sure. But added sugars, cut that out if you can.
Balance is unnecessary- it’s only for people who can’t commit - once you stop eating junk you won’t crave it
I agree balance is key but you can make your own goodies
Never? What about smoking? Or alcohol? And if cutting those out entirely isn’t bad, what’s so special about sugar?
You can eat sugar if you want to, and obviously moderation is better than indulgence. But you do not *need* sugar, and sometimes complete abstinence is easier than moderation. It is a matter of choice and what works for the individual.

So glad I watched this. I was so fit last year. October I moved out and then because of the pandemic my workplace wasn't working anymore (security for events). But then I also got sick due to iron deficiency and then in January I had kind of hard Covid. I was unable to work, despite not having found work anyway. So what I lived of was only the money my parents sent me each week and due to new expenses while living alone, that wasn't enough. I bounced into unhealthy eating, went into a depressive phase again, was lacking motivation to cook longer than 30 mins in the kitchen bcs my roommate doesn't clean after himself (the kitchen was always so messy again even tho I always left it clean.). So, I gained weight and lost muscles because I also stopped working out because of my health and that depression. Now that I have a different workplace (actually as a PCR tester lmao) since 2 months I finally get a salary again and events also have started so I'll be able to work at my other job as well. And I am so motivated to definitely spend a penny more on healthy foods.
And yes, I learned processed foods that count as unhealthy are indeed less pricy. Especially because my favourite greens are from Asia and lesser known, they are more expensive to get here.
I will start my journey again, this motivated me to bounce back to where my fitness was exactly a year ago!
Sacrificing your own well being to ultimately help save your friend and teach us is incredible

Definitely different from what I experience when I gave up processed sugars, preservatives, alcohol and grain. The first week wasn’t pleasant at all. I had headaches and was really irritable although I did sleep really well. At the end of the week I started my workout routine back up and was shocked about how well I did. The amount of weight I was lifting, and the distance I ran took me by surprise. I feel better now and only drink, and eat junk food on very special occasions.
I have a really bad binge disorder. I will usually drink a coffee in the morning, I only have lunch half the time but when I come home I’ll binge on over 4000 calories, sometimes even more. I’m always tired and have high cholesterol (in 17 but it’s genetic) meaning what I eat puts me at risk for heart issues. Recently I’ve started seeing a food therapist who’s helped me make changes toward a healthier life. I still really struggle, especially when I “relapse” but I think I’m getting better. This video is a great representation of not only what food can do to your body, but also how it controls you mind.
I know this is an old comment, but just wanted to say that I’ve had the same experience! I struggled most of my life with binge eating and a generally unhealthy relationship with food, but working with a weight neutral nutrition counselor was so helpful for me. I definitely learned to prioritize having full meals for breakfast and lunch, but also to work through my internal stigma around binge foods. Once I started eating consistently, and not restricting any types of food, I binged less, and my body started to crave more veggies/fruit/etc. I hope you’ve had a helpful experience as well! I recommend reading about intuitive eating, if you haven’t. I like this video, but some of the shaming around fast/processed video isn’t really helpful for people specifically with disordered eating.
You need to get mad at your binge problem you need to fight it like a bully
When my husband was younger, some times he would drink a 2-liter soda in A DAY! He was diagnosed with high blood pressure in his 30s. Fast forward to age 63. Some form of fasting and eating low carb for the last 3 years he is able to greatly reduce the days he takes his one blood pressure pill. It’s really amazing how the body can heal when you give it a chance! His goal is to get off the med for good.
That’s amazing! One of my relatives is on the same journey, currently experimenting with beet juice and low carb soon!
Sounds awesome, personally i dont drink much soda but instead drink a few bottles of beer every day, i guess it would be good to stop that...

Wow, what a great video. 🌱
I absolutely feel a difference when I eat better quality foods...yet I reach for that instant gratification of fast food quite often.
This video helped me observe myself and see the ways in which I can shift my habits.
Thank you for yet another great video!
For me the number 1 video from Yes Theory, Awsome work guys i love what are you doing 😍⚡️🙏
as someone who has been in recovery from anorexia and orthorexia for 3 years, this video is so refreshing and it is so helpful to think of food in terms of how will it make me feel? how will it affect my mental clarity? how will it affect my sleep and energy? rather than, will it make me fat? is it too many calories and too much sugar? is it "bad"? moving away from guilt and shame and a restrictive mindset and moving towards grace and gentle nutrition to help me be the best i can is so encouraging!!
As someone who also dealt with anorexia and orthorexia for 2 years, and took 2/3 years to recover i definitely know what you mean! It a waayyy better mindset than thinking of food as just calories.
I‘ve once read that in america every food product is considered safe until proven unsafe.
In europe they are unsafe until the company can prove through studies that the product is safe and only then it can be sold
Woooow thats so not okay
Nah probably not true the fda decides if it’s safe or not before it goes into stores

idk why but this (vid) has become one of those staple vids i binge and repeatedly watch from y'alls channel XD
I eat very healthy since 2013 (when I changed my habits and dropped 80 lbs), but this Holiday Season I decided to be a little (a lot) more flexible with my food choices and my stomach is still taking revenge, I even had to pay a visit to to Gastroenterologist. So yeah, I totally understand what you went through, Thomas
I watched this video 1 month ago as a 220 pound man. Because of this video, I'm proud to say I'm watching this video today (August 19th, 2021) as a 200 pound man. I'm continuing my weight loss journey to get down to 180 so I can complete my goal of joining the Air Force. Thank you, Yes Theory. For inspiring me and many others and showing me that dieting isn't as hard as everybody makes it out to be.
Awesome!!! keep it up, even if you fall off track
Hey how is your weight loss journey going today (July 10th 2022)?
Well, I’m gay and I don’t know why you wouldn’t be proud of that like I am…?
nobody makes it look hard what are you on about
Brother! You inspire me.
I'd be interested in knowing how Thomas avoided eating fast food for that amount of time given the amount of travel you guys do, any travel tips for eating better while on the move would be great
Extended stay hotels have mini stove! It was so clutch when I was traveling for work.
I travel a lot and I eat snack food from the grocery store. I do a shop when I first get somewhere. Veggies, fruit, ham, bbq chicken.
Luckily I live in the UK, because even though we are known to produce weird or boring, we are really health conscious as a country.
We have the highest quality meat products in Europe, our products are usually free range/organic with minimal artificial ingredients and we are very strict on quality of imports.
P.S. If you want fish n chips, buy some fish on the earliest opening day of the week because many fish n chips are closed on Sundays and/or Mondays as the fish is caught fresh, therefore by the next opening day, you’ll have the the freshest fish. It’s worth it.
I am so happy for you, what a change of mindset. I have faith in you that u can continue this and find a happy and healthy relationship with food:)

That lemon juicing trick is good to know! I do that now and my life is forever changed and my lemons have never been more juicy!
I'm so glad you mentioned that your diet helped combat how you feel in terms of your mental health. So many people forget about the simple changes you can make to things like diet to treat mental health, and how powerful looking at how you can change your own life to make yourself feel better is. This should be the absolute first step in your journey yet doctors are prescribing bills before advising people on how they can better themselves.
I agree that it's great to mention! I see a lot of overactive kiddos because of their diet. Kids that basically live off sugary snacks. Pills can be helpful, for example healthy eating gives me more energy but does nothing for my depression. But it should always be the last option with most mental health issues.
@@julieannanderson2228 omg i can relate to this, my little cousin ONLY eats sugar. when we try to give her anything healthy she doesn’t want it.. her mom has to add sugar to everything for her to like it. it’s so sad lol

I feel like Thomas exaggerated this a bit. There’s no way the first burger after 12 years creates “a haze in your brain”
I don't know why I just found this channel today 😄 Very interesting content. Well done!
The United States is the *only* place I've ever seen where processed food/fast food is actually cheaper than "regular" homemade food and that is very telling.
Wrong if you buy it right
True, my digestive system did not appreciate my holidays there but if we wanted to buy fresh and non processed, we would have had to cut our holidays short 😄
Pretty much the same thing in many 3rd world countries too. A pack of instant noodles/ramen in my country is as low as USD 0.10, versus the cheapest bundle of local spinach being double the price. The former can be stretched with an egg and rice to feed a family of six, while the latter would need other condiments/sauces/pantry staples that not many have. At least where I live.
TLDR: For a first world country, the US food culture behaves closer to that of a third world country.
@@ohoh7541 Im In 3rd world country too but a medium sized pizza at pizza hut costs just as much as 75% of monthly groceries
@@patheticgamer325 yeah, pizza can be pricey especially if you're coming from somewhere where bread isn't really a staple. A USD15 pizza would easily buy 2kg of pork plus the veggies, but time and capacity to cook it may be inhibitive for some. Though that same USD15 can also purchase 15 cans of corned beef where a can = 1 whole day of sodium requirement.
Eating healthy gets cheaper with practice. Opening your fridge and "free styling" a meal out of ingredients that will go bad first is an important skill that takes practice.
So true. Like, you can buy a really ripe plantain and microwave wave it for only 70 cents.
Does the brainfog come from the "bad" in the fast food or is it the fast food lacking nutriens? Bc undereating also causes brain fog, and I´m wondering if it´s both bc of malnutrition or if undereating is just a lack of energie/calories and something about what is in the fast food or how the body absorbs it is causing the brain fog.
I think the brain fog comes from the sugar your ingesting since it messes up your focus and your memory
Definitely not malnutrition. You can live off fast food. You shouldn't, but you can. I'm not sure if it's the calorie density, the typically off the chart of salt and fat that puts you in nap mode. I don't eat clean but I love to cook and don't eat much fast food. I'd never been to White Castle, so my SO took me and I sampled the menu. I felt like I'd eaten an anchor. I had to take a nap.
Fast food is very high in calories so energy and weight will deffinitly go up. It's the macros (nutrition) that's causing the brain fog and low mood depression and energy crashes while calories give energy a high sugar sodium count will make you crash hard and feel awefuk
It's just the macro ratio. Too much carbohydrate. I never ate from McDonald's in the US, but what Thomas is experiencing right after (!) eating the Big Mac and stuff on day 1 is likely either from just the amount of food, or it's simply exaggerated acting for content.
This is yet another Yes Theory video that has inspired me! I will definitely try my best to eat more healthily!!!😃👍☮️💚
I’m going to give this a go. I recently thought about how I could get better sleep to get through the day better. Now I’m realizing my diet is probably a huge reason this is an issue. Thanks for the upload.

USA IS NUMBER 1🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Hi.
Fascinating - well done guys! I've increased my dark green veg (Kale, etc) and fibre-rich fruit, nuts and seeds. Microwave steamed veg, with a sprinkle of mixed seeds plus a little drizzle of extra-virgin Olive oil and/or a squeeze of lemon tastes great. Also a couple of dried figs a day is fabulous if your digestive system needs a little more help! I'm happy to bid takeaways bye-bye, because healthier food is actually easier to prepare and cook, as well as simply being better for my insides.
I ate 13 McDonald’s cookies 3 nights ago and I’ve had nonstop kidney pain ever since. Please eat healthy y’all
I was vegan for 6 years. Healthiest I’ve ever been, going to the gym and working out everyday, recently in the past year or so I gave that up and started eating out 3-4 times a week and making really unhealthy choices. Ive been aware of these decisions, but have been lacking the motivation to change my diet and lifestyle, this video honestly gave me so much motivation to get back to where I used to be, thank you guys for doing this and bringing more awareness to how much eating can impact your mental health. Tomorrow is a new day and I’m going to change one day at a time :)
good luck, friend! you're doing awesome
It was the processed food that made you feel like shit. Not the animal protein. Good luck though. Some people can sustain being vegan if you chow a ton of spirulina. I did the opposite. I had a standard American diet, read the four hour body, healthy meats, slow carbs, good fats, lots of greens, one cheat day a week. Inflammation gone, no cholesterol issues (eating all kinds of meat). Everyone’s needs are different. Vegan doesn’t work for everyone just like my way of eating doesn’t. Find yours and don’t be a bi*ch about it. More than one way to skin a cat. Or a piece of tofu.
Same!!! Let's go back to how we once were!
I was vegan for 5 years and it was the unhealthiest I ever was.
Now I've been on OMAD and on/off carnivore. Sugar and carb free. And it's like I got a whole new brain and body. Full mental clarity, energy, better mood, fixed digestion.
I would never go back to vegan. Ever.
Dont put yourself down to much mate, the past year has been a stressful one and practically brought on a new way of living. Could of brought emotions up that you’ve experienced. But like you said tomorrow is a new dayv
you dont need to burn all your money at Whole Foods to buy healthy, delicious food and produce. Farmers markets can also be quite unaffordable. I highly recommend going to international markets in your area that tend to have cheaper prices, better + seasonal produce, and tend to be family owned and operated!
fr, this there's misconception that farmers markets are automatically cheaper when in my experience it's quite literally the oppsite.
those don't exist near me.
9:13 EXACTLY! I used to eat like complete shit and would always feel hazy when trying to think about something or concentrate. I never correlated it with the fact that I ate extremely poorly b/c i was so used to it. As soon as I started eating a balanced organic diet with more vegetables I stopped losing train of thought and was able to articulate what I was trying to say so much better.
It's not really surprising to say but when you are so used to a horrible diet you forget that what you ingest directly effects your mind and body.
