The guys are in Orlando, Florida. Alexxa was in South Korea where she currently lives and works. She approached VP to do this and recoded herself on green screen to be added in.. I agree with your guest that this probably wasn't the best thing to show off their particular talents.

I think sometimes if you’re super familiar with a song done a certain way, it sounds “wrong” done a different way-but then a cover is supposed to be different. Strange that Geoff’s bass evokes a violent response, though. Definitely see what he thinks of something like Carry On Wayward Son or Coming in the Air (trying to pick songs that aren’t too bassy or theatrical).
Prayers for anyone struggling with Parkinson’s. My mom had it-it’s very day to day.

Oh, man! Well, I hope he will give them another chance. They also covered Warriors by Imagine Dragons but there are other covers he might also enjoy from them. ❤

She lives in S. Korea and is a K-Pop star (won best American song), Alexa contacted them and wanted to do a cover of this song. She couldn't fly because of Covid, so her part was done in Korea and sent to VoicePlay where Eli incorporated it into the video. Try him on In the Air Tonight (Phil Collins), or maybe Creep (RadioHead).

I actually like this more than the original, but, to be fair I am a little biased. lol Thanks for the reaction! Hope he enjoys the next one more.

Not to knock this, out of VP's repertoire, why pick this one 😂 Jim's not gonna like it! Valhalla Calling - Miracle of Sound (acapella) VoicePlay, Nothing Else Matters - Metallica (acapella) VoicePlay, Creep - Radiohead (acapella) VoicePlay...Almost anything other than this.

Thanks for your reaction! I like your friend, Jim Runge, and even though I am a huge fan and patron supporter of Voice Play appreciated his input and wanting to hear something else from Voice Play instead before saying too much about them- a true professional in the business. This is one of the few Voice Play covers that was not a favorite for me even after I listened to it a few times. I think you both would have liked their 'Imagine Dragons' cover of "Warriors" much better. Voice Play is a group from Orlando Florida and all of the members and most of their frequently featured guests have worked as performers for Universal and/or Disney theme parks. They do all of their own production, arrangements, costumes, lighting and technical effects, and editing and have a more theatrical approach to acapella music than Pentatonix or Home Free. They cover a lot of genres so maybe you could choose something that you think he would like better (Rock, Disney, etc). I think he would really like "Valhalla Calling", "In The Air Tonight", "Creep" or "Nothing Else Matters".

I wonder why someone would say they want to punch the "bass guy". That doesn't sound very professional.... I respect his opinion about the cover as this isn't in many people's opinion, the best one of their repertoire... I realise that everyone doesn't like every song they make.... Especially if they know the original inside out. I could tell from his expression he wasn't impressed... I would suggest a different song. More recent... 7 Nation Army, Nothing else matters, Dream one, Valhalla calling or In the air tonight..and if he's still not bothered, then VP is not for him....

I wonder what he might think of something like the Bonnie Rait song “I Can’t Make You Love Me”

Well, this one's not my fav but I still like a lot about it. Especially Eli's high belt. Still, it's not for everyone, obviously, lol.
I can't help but wonder how he'd feel about something like "If I Were a Rich Man/Girl." Or maybe "Golden Hour." I hope he'll give it another shot.

Bit of a bummer for a first impression, but to be fair, it's probably not the best introductory song out there for VoicePlay anyway. I hope Jim will give them (and Geoff 🥲Please don't punch Geoff!) another fair shot, and maybe see/hear why we think they're so amazing.

VoicePlay describe themselves as the theater kids of the acapella world. I would highly recommend that you check out either their "Hoist the Colors" video or "Dream on" or "Hall of the Mountain King" I feel these songs show off their flexibility with song genre and how they play with their voices so well.

I think the “theater kids of acapella” term actually came from their fans and not them lol

Not to be picky, but I would not refer to Voiceplay as a "band", which implies that musical instrumentation is involved 🙂

I wanted to like the guy, but if he can't explain why he thought the song didn't work then he's obviously lost a lot in retirement. You would think he'd be familiar enough with the original he could give great feedback. I can cut him some slack due to Parkinson's as I have a friend dealing with that and it's unreal. But major disappointment.

“Warrior” would’ve been a better choice. I also wasn’t a huge fan of this song.
