To me Layne has always been the beatboxing dragon. My favorite is in their old Cruella DeVil video when Tony was still in the group. That was when I first saw it, and i love it when reactors realize how versatile Layne is. Everyone sleeps on him, and it’s so sad.
Agree. I get that the first time people hear VP their jaws drop when Geoff brings the thunder. He’s not only one of the lowest basses out there, but he also has that beautiful, rich timbre-he’s quite extraordinary. But at some point if you listen to these guys you really need to pay attention to what everybody else is bringing, because they’re all just amazing. Eli’s vocal agility is superb (plus that man is one hell of an actor; just watch his facial transformations in this-very tiny shifts in expression and he’s suddenly showing a whole other side), Cesar’s no slouch in the acting department, and he seems to be finding his niche as the vocal character actor in this crew-whatever kind of voice you need, he can bring it. I think Layne is definitely the sleeper-until lately it seems like he intentionally stayed in the background, though he’s starting to do things that draw more notice these days. Even when he sings he has a fairly quiet, soothing voice. If you’re listening to VP songs, it’s always worth listening at least once with your focus entirely on what he’s bringing.
I heard them the first time with "this is Halloween and The phantom of the opera. And I really miss Tony 😢 but for me Geoff is the dragon. Just listen to "my mother told me" and "the dragonborn"
Alexa's voice is amazing, Eli's belts are incredible, Layne's beatboxing is out of this world, and Geoff hits an F#1 in chest voice in this. Insane.
Actually I'm pretty sure the F#1 was a subharmonic, but insanely clean and impressive nonetheless!
@@krishnac4910 I'm pretty sure my mans can reach an F#1 in chest, not counting the subharmonics. His subs are on a whole other level tho, his lowest sub ever recorded outside of a song was like a C#0 which is literally an octave lower than a contrabass
AleXa is a singer, dancer, actress and Kpop artist now based in South Korea which is where she was recorded and filmed, on green screen and added in to the video. More VoicePlay magic. And why do I keep hearing lions ? I swear I hear lions in there.

Yes, VoicePlay has Layne, but when it comes to talent and notes on the staff they just don't have a lane at all. They sing just about every genre. They all have astounding vocal ranges. Cesar is listed as baritone but between Tyler's scream in Dream On and this, Eli and AleXa hitting the same notes back to back, and Geoff's high belt they might want to just leave those designations off. They have an uncanny ability to pick the perfect guest stars that mesh seamlessly, even if they're overseas like AleXa was. And then there's LAYNE! He just killed the percussion in this. Just wow. They are hugely popular and they've really done it all themselves. They do everything but the final sound mix and some of the more elaborate make up. And they don't have a record label like the others either. They're just that dang good.
I made the same face when I realized those deep base sounds were Layne, absolutely insane

I knew a lot of this was Layne-we’ve actually heard him hit some crazy low notes doing this kind of vocal percussion, but here he brings the beast. There are a couple times I’m also pretty sure Geoff is bringing the thunder to the beat. He does drops that contribute to Layne’s percussion a lot, BUT I think I read somewhere that Geoff said he can’t do that ingressive phonation, so when that’s happening it’s Layne?
@@lkayh oddly enough they both can beat box,but Layne can do more "characteristic,character sounds 💦 🥂 🌬️ 🎐 🐒 🕊️ 🐕 etc" if that makes any sense. And I've seen Geoff on Patreon using his tenor voice,which he can do he just prefers to belt like a 🐲
I think the reason why we don't always register the awesome stuff Layne does is because he is so damn good we forget the perc and sound effect are being made by him. That man is an absolute beast at making and controlling sounds.

Somewhere I saw or read a review on the Voiceplay members' highest and lowest notes. From what I remember, Layne can't necessarily sing as low as Geoff for an extended period of time, but when it comes to hitting notes, especially while beatboxing, he can go as low, if not lower. That blew my mind when I heard it!
I didn't know anything about this, not the game, song or show but I love VP's rendition! This is one of those times it's impossible to pick any one person who stood out because they were all amazing in what they brought to this cover! Always enjoy your reactions, thank you! 🙂👍
Layne is not quite as deep as geoff but he gets scary close in songs like this. Holy crap my man can beat box deep
Actually, Layne does go deeper than Geoff with his throat bass and inhale bass. Layne is the one in the group with the largest range 😅
@@huldradraco surprising that he would beat out geoff but geoff can probably sustain the deep notes more because of technique differences.
Layne hit an A0 years before Geoff.
@@anthonywall4417 Layne uses very different techniques from Geoff, so although he can hit those low notes he is by no means a bass like Geoff is. He can hit a few higher bass notes in chest though, so he has a baritone range. But yeah, his full range is A0 to C#6, which makes him the VP member with both the lowest and the highest range 😂
@@huldradraco that makes sense and because of the technique differences he does not sound as rich as geoff but can hit many of the same notes. That is very interesting that they both have such insane ranges though

There are videos by Marcello that show Geoff (pre the B0 in Halo), Layne and Eli's vocal ranges. You should check them out. I think you'll be surprised. And Eli just showed us he can still hit subharmonics on last months chat. :) And it will not surprise me at all if Cesar is doing it next. Great reaction, always look forward to seeing yours!
What it do Dave? We’re trying to get them to do a full length movie complete with singing. I mean, how about Geoff’s growl. Yeah, he’s always been able to do it, but this and Dragonborn…I mean, come on!!!!! ❤️😊
First effect was Geoff, and one of his 'inhaled' notes......nice and deep and 'crispy'......lol AleXa was a recent winner of some sing off contest......AND DAVE!.......she wasn't even THERE.....her part was recorded with a 'greenscreen' behind her,......and was 'worked into' the video.....>^^

When Genshin had an anniversaary of some kind, VoicePlay was the opening act....filmed at home, but shown for the concert with Deejay Young......check it out from an audio/visual standpoint....>^^

Honestly, the songs are always so fantastic, but the thing we can all agree on is that reactions are just the cherry on top! The way that Dave just vibes in the beginning, etc. Truly awesome!

OMFG you haven't reacted to AleXa? Her winning American Song Contest as a KPOP idol ought to catch your interest! She does a unique A.I. concept. Because there is an overarching story, her MV's are _best_ watched in release order, starting with her 2019 debut, "Bomb". Then move thru "Do or Die", "Villain", and "Revolution." The second set of four MV's covers the character before she became an AI, ballad "Never Let You Go", summer bop "Xtra", post-apocalyptic "Tattoo", and heartbreak song "Wonderland"...all of which also tie into the story!

I think you just christened Layne with a very appropriate title - the Beatbox Dragon. He definitely seems to have leveled up his ability as witnessed in VP's recent work. As a gamer, when Layne did the 'pig snort' sounds towards the end it made me think of the 'Pinky' demons from Doom II.

VoicePlay always delivers OUTSTANDING productions and this is no exception. Now don't be a hater but while I loved listening to the perfection of the audio this is the only piece I did not enjoy watching. It was too jumbled for my taste. Musically perfection with so many layers - kudos to them
