  • In the finale of Alien 3, Bishop II promised to remove and destroy the alien embryo inside of Ripley. She chose not to trust him and made the ultimate sacrifice in order to save the universe. But what if she chose differently? This video explores different outcomes that may have played out it Ripley trusted the word of Bishop II.

If it didn't they could have simply left the colony, gone a safe distance away and used the APC to pilot down the second dropship. No doubt in my mind they'd just dispose of her corpse after.

      Remember that also in the original script and book the Xenomorohs have a neurotoxin administered by their tail which paralyses humans in seconds, this alone but seemed to wear off with absolutely no side effects (the reason Gorman was unconscious in the script/book rather than being knocked out), this alone would be a valuable item if weaponised. The armour possible would be incredibly valuable, as mentioned, as would their ability to sense potential human hosts, which if understood could be turned into potential tracking devices. The possibilities for a weapons division with nefarious intentions would be huge... if they lived long enough to see any of them through to fruition!

      @faceless2302 Před 2 lety +1

      The Company wouldn't be content with just observing I'm sure, they'd want tests done. I think the best case containment is some sort of space station hub with detached pods for specimen containment. Try to keep study entirely remote through camera feeds where possible, but offer a way for pods to be moved by crane or by thruster to dock with the station so synthetics can bring them in for autopsy or whatever is needed. Have everyone live and work in groups to avoid lone people getting infected without anyone knowing. Hard part is finding a way to provide ventilation to staff without the use of conveniently alien-sized air ducts because that's just begging for breached containment. Of course it's Alien, it's going to go wrong and everyone is going to die, but on paper it's probably about as best you can do without a full staff of synths which may be prohibitively expensive.

    In the novel of ALIEN 3 it is mentioned twice how expensive long range deep-space communication is.
    I therefore believe that sending Bishop and his crew and the 'Patna' to Fiorina 161 must be extremely expensive too.
    Based on a huge price-tag WY surely did not send their team to merely save Ripley from the Queen and destroy the latter.
    Watching the movie in the cinema in 1993 in Germany I found two clues that Bishop lied to Ripley and one big statement showing how manipulative Bishop II was.
    1. Explaining the medical procedure to Ripley he makes this grabbing and twisting hand-gesture which (to me) does not indicate a smooth procedure to save Ripley but rather how they would yank the Queen out-of Ripley with little concern for anything but the Queen.
    2. I am paraphrasing from the german translation, and Bishop II first mentions 'it cannot live, we are here to destroy it'. Then when Ripley slams the door close and shortly before Aaron attacks Bishop calls at her, begging her to allow him the operation, as 'it is a very special specimen' and 'there is so much we can learn from it'.
    If it is special, then WY would not kill it and, clearly, WY could learn more from the Queen when she is alive then merely having an obduction on the Queen's corpse.
    3. Attempting to manipulate Ripley in telling her 'you could still have children. A daughter?' Bishop II clearly knew about Amanda Ripley-McClaren and her death and the break-down Ripley had when Burke informed Ripley about her dead daughter before her hearing with vanLeuwen.
    All in all, Ripley would most likely would have died either way.

    At the time Alien 3 came out... no one knew just how evil Weyland Yuntani was going to be.
    There are two additional clues as to what was going to happen to Ripley.
    Both of these clues came after Aliens 3.
    Clue 1: In Alien 4 Resurrection: General Perez only wanted the specimen, he didn't care about Ripley, yet leaned towards 'disposal" of her.
    Now this has nothing direct on the story in Alien 3, however, it is a clue laid down by the writers and maybe the producers as to what fate was going to befall Ellen after surgery.
    Only in Alien 3, Ripley was even less "special" to WT than Ripley-8 was to the scientists in A4 ---who they wanted to play around with for a while.
    Clue 2: (and as you stated from ACM) In that Video game (and maybe the Book adaptation of Alien 4), it was passed on that NO ONE could survive the operation ---at least long term.
    It acts as a cancer spreading out tentacles into each organ and leading to the spot of the Xeno's artificial invasive womb.
    A constant drain on the body's nutrients being piped into that area over and over and growing back if parts of it were removed.
    Think of that movie "The Ruins" how that plant was roaming around just under that girl's skin spreading its spores and growing inside her.
    Similar situation with the Facehugger's spores it used to make its womb with.
    It would have been a painful experience to go through. This was in a way a hint that even WT knew this and would have felt they would be doing her a favor by ending her life.
    They also, would be removing the last witness to all of the Xenomorph's history on Nostromo and LV426.
    WT could literally make up any story ... cough.. "Complications" from emergency surgery" etc
    All in all, Ellen was smart and wise enough to foresee their murderous intentions once they secured the specimen.
    Thus she falls into the abyss.
    I don't like these two films at all. And if i could ever do my own film line of Ripley's saga with the Aliens...
    I would have her wake at the beginning of a film with her husband Hicks beside her... asking her "Which dream was it this time?"
    Crysosleep nightmares are talked about at the beginning of Alien, Aliens, and Alien 3 movie adaptation books.
    Fitting to assign those two movies as "Cryosleep nightmares". To dismiss them respectably from the timeline.
    However, I would also consider a "5th' film, picking up from Alien 4. My brother had an idea about Ripley 8 and the Android making their way to Weyland Yutani and using their secret 'Time machine" to go back into time and try and stop everything.
    His story, has Ripley slowly changing into a Xenomorph herself... and ending up on the very Juggernaut ship that Kane got his face hugger attack.
    Ripley's last act in the film would be to try and warn the Nostromo with a beacon and a message.
    However, in a terrible twist of horror, at the moment she is recording the message, she has fully changed and her voice would be indistinquishable to the crew.
    Just think... Ripley and the rest of them listening (in that deleted scene) would be unknowing that they were hearing Ellen's own voice on that recording... its just that it was now a Xeno voice.
    Spooky ending... and that deleted scene could be used as the very ending to that "Alternate ending" film idea.

It's a truly dark and beautifully made film. My only regret is that director David Fincher was so badly treated by Fox during the production, and that his horrible experience while making it has made him hate this film. That is a real tragedy because the Assembly Cut of this film is bloody well made and a worthy sequel. If you like your sci-fi horror truly dark, as I do, then you have to love it. The company had obvious intentions to collect a specimen as evident in Aliens. Their reputation throughout the films and extended universe is clear. Wayland Yutani has a psychotic mentality with no regards for the well being of humans. They wouldn't send out a team like that for the sole purpose of buying out Ripley's contract and giving her a perfect life. Its not in their nature. In fact, if they didn't believe an alien specimen existed on the planet, they would more likely leave Ripley to die if only to prevent her from suing the company for putting her in harms way so many times. So I am certain that the company was there to collect a specimen, not for Ripley.

    If the last scenario had occurred, it would not have been 100% certain to Ripley that the cause was the Alien Queen extracted from her. The Company would have insisted that the source was either the ship on LV-426 or somewhere new and its true that Ripley's sacrifice only delayed the Alien threat, it did not totally eliminate it. So while Ripley would have her suspicions, she would never know for certain if the blame rested with her or not.

  • @TheSindara
    @TheSindara Před 3 lety +1

    As for the several mentions of Ripley's 'expertise' - it always struck me that no one listened to a word Ripley had to say as far as Aliens the movie went, and her being there as an 'advisor' was as ridiculously pointless as it sounded when Burke first asked her to go. Watching Aliens again in later years, it's sad to see how little they listened to her, the briefing, the entry to the colony base when they find acid for blood evidence, the facehuggers in the jars - apart from little quips like 'somebody must have bagged one of Ripley's bad guys here' they gain nothing from her experience or her presence. From the beginning it's obvious she's right and that they're walking into a base filled with 200+ 8 foot tall acid for blood killing machines but they continue to act as though they're on holiday.

    • @Omenowl
      @Omenowl Před 3 lety

      To be fair the colonists had almost no weapons and little training. The marines had lots of weapons on the dropship and an apc vehicle with pulse cannons. They were there to cleanse the colony as this was not their first bug hunt (admittedly not against an xenomorph). Imagine what would have happened if they had full use of their flamers and guns (instead of frost being flamed by dietrich and the ammo being destroyed). Drake and vasquez were mowing them down as they retreated and the pulse rifles were fully capable of taking down the aliens. The assumption also was they could return to the sulaco if needed to resupply.

    • @TheSindara
      @TheSindara Před 3 lety

      Well you see the whole 'we can't have any firing in there' thing was a tactical disaster. This always bugged me. You're 9 marines walking into an area with '200+ 8 foot tall acid for blood killing machines' to quote myself. By now we know this, not just because we have Ripley's testimony but because they have lots of evidence, but again, they act as if they're on holiday. We're asked to be as stupid as those marines. Hurr durr 'harsh language' and 'I like to keep this handy for close encounters'. No. Stop, pull them back, have a rethink. Assess options. It was insane at this point to carry on as if the colonists were having a 'town meeting' - obviously not as soon as they walked into the massive secreted resin labyrinth. To proceed with only flamethrowers (I think only 2 of them?) vs the potential size of the enemy force was suicide even without the other disasters (ammo explosion). They did not have the APC or the Sulaco - they had empty guns (Frost and Vasquez were disobeying). As a relevant aside, it always makes me laugh that Frost and Vasquez are still clearly swinging their loaded guns around for all to see despite the fact that they are supposed to be empty - you think Apone would say 'hey, those guns aren't really empty are they? LOOK INTO MY EYE'. These stupid decisions are of course designed purely to set up a fantastic chain of events (and don't get me wrong, I love the film) but I don't like it when 'dumb' is the mechanic used to set up subsequent scenes (like when they never really check the bad guy is dead in Horror movies).

    Not exactly movie canon... but In the Alien RPG Corerulebook Michael Bishop is listed as DIRECTOR OF SPECIAL PROJECTS, BIO-WEAPONS
    R&D, AND SYNTHETIC DESIGN and discribed as:
    A narcissistic genius and creator of the Bishop series android, Michael Bishop’s ambitious and manipulative behavior catapulted him through the corporate ranks from a synthetic designer at Hyperdyne Systems to a senior position in bioweapons and director of special projects at Weyland-Yutani. His focus over the past few years has been to obtain viable specimens of p.praepotens for bioweapons research. He almost achieved his goal when confronting Ellen Ripley at the Fiorina 161 Class C Work Correctional Unit, but her suicide by immolation there prevented him from obtaining his prize.
    During the incident Michael suffered severe head trauma and has since received extensive corrective surgery and cybernetic implants in order to repair the damage to his skull. Unfortunately, the doctors have been unable to control his severe migraines and red-outs, and Michael has become dependent on highly addictive painkillers. Never one to throw in the towel, Michael has since operated on the Frontier, tracking down any Xenomorph XX121 leads and sightings in the hopes of capturing one and weaponizing it. His corporate transport ship the Patna can frequently be found docked at the W-Y corporate berth on Anchorpoint Station.

    Great work! Love the colour adjusted footage. She did have the greatest power at the end. But then the company decided to bring her back for extra profit. the company being 20th century fox. Alien Resurrection should never have happened. But a sequel to Alien 3 should. It’s very plausible to continue on Fury 16. Sold as crap. Then bought by a different company. The planet still has natural methane. This could be a business opportunity. A team would map out the facility to determine its integrity and viability. Only for the team of researchers to encounter an egg. While construction is underway to adjust the facility. The alien would go on a killing spree. No Ripley this time around ofcourse. It would be all new characters.
