I'm 69 years old I've lived a life like so many at my age filled with ups and downs so I say try to find joy in other people's happiness. Whether it's a movie or real life. Yep. I was with someone who was 13 years younger than me. I was 34. Tell you what though? Both of us still see each other as the love our lives. It just didn’t work because the age difference matters. You’re at different stages in life. I met my husband now and it’s been even better (two years younger). Do what makes you happy. And be around women who support and love you for you. I may be a tomboy and not as girly as others, but as your friend, I’ll always love and appreciate you! ❤

I feel like they should have chosen an actress with an older look cause Anne Hathaway still looks like shes in her late 20s or early 30s even though she's 41. She is just so gorgeous and amazing. I'll have to look up the film or the book to see what the official age gap of the characters is supposed to be cause it can't be more than 10 or 12 years.
They aged Hayes up to 24 for the movie but he’s 20 in the book (that I had the misfortune of reading - nearly rage quit three chapters in) so twenty years. And I don’t recommend reading the book. Somehow both the author and their editors messed up a detail that was supposed to highlight just how much older Sophie was in comparison to Hayes.

Sophie then gets wrong how old he would have been when they fell by thinking he would have been in the fourth grade. This book was originally published in 2017. Hayes would have, AT most, been three or four when 9/11 happened. A fourth grader is at most nine or ten. Like I said stupid detail, but one that should either have been omitted or corrected by the editors.

Some actress in their 40's who could work are Charlize Theron, Rachel McAdams and Amy Adams. They all could still plausibly pull a guy that young and beautiful, but look a bit older than Hathaway. I am a 40 year old lady with a husband in her 30s. Ok we are not 16 years apart but it is nothing special being married to a younger man. Society has made it a taboo.
Oh Hollywood lol. Can we be real for a moment? I am in my 40’s, single after divorced and no kids and still want them, and my cut off is 35 yrs old when it comes to men I date. When it comes down to where men are emotionally in real life at 25 compared to a woman at 40, is not going to really work out if that 40 year old still wants a family and to settle down quickly due to age. Even 35 year old men aren’t ready to raise a family or be a committed father one day unless they are a really settled person in all respects. Also a 25 year old and 40 year old mentally may not work, unless you are dating a very old soul who matured at a younger age. But it’s a great fantasy as a movie !

I personally think it's okay either way if the younger person's mind has stopped forming. Which is 25ish. The problem (either male or female older) is that it becomes predatory when the younger person can be manipulated. I think this movie is probably called "acclaimed" when it's an older female is because in today's society women are not considered desirable after a certain age because they can't be used. Where as this movie shows that they can still be desired.

My parents have a 20 year age gap but my mother was a fully grown 30 year old woman when they started dating. That’s the difference.
