I think what makes Summer Horror like Friday the 13th, Jaws, Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Wicker Man so perfect is that it plays with the notion of daytime relaxation and safety. People say winter can be cruel but summer is just as cruel if not worse

I’d love to see a sequel-esque video on winter horror (autumn based horror is too easy 🥴)! It’s got such an interesting vibe and can really lend itself to isolation and the raw power of nature. Plus, any chance to bring up The Thing is a good chance.

FEAR STREET was awesome summer horror for me in 2021. I needed something to tide me over until Scream 2022. 1978 captured Friday the 13th’s feel while putting actual children in danger instead of just 20 somethings. It took the danger of kids like IT or The Body and merged it with that classic camp feel.

It’s so true. I’m much more willing to forgive plot craters when a film doesn’t hide behind the dark, unknown trope. Even jaws leverages the unseen threats hidden by the ocean. It’s one of the main reasons why despite being dog shit by any other benchmark, I love house of wax, the hills have eyes, jeepers creepers, hell even final destination. They have to work a little bit harder and earn their jump scares in unique ways

My early childhood was the late 1970s/early 1980s, so I was often way to young to see any of these movies when they came out. But whenever I saw the movie posters on bus stops and subways or billboards along the highway I would fantasize and imagine the terrifying storylines I was missing out on (Friday the 13th Part 3, Prom Night, Dressed To Kill, Halloween 2, Cujo). A tiny part of me was actually sad when I would finally get a chance to see them (edited for television, on cable or satellite dish, or finally VHS tape). Nothing could compete with what my imagination anticipated! Ha ha

I absolutely LOVE "campfire" and "Camp" (NOT "campy", ugh) horror. I think those subgenres go with "summer" horror for sure. Just some of my fave movies, simply due to the setting. Movies like all the friday the 13th series movies are absolutely dripping with atmosphere, and I just love going back to those places. "Outdoor" horror, I suppose, would be an extension of that form of horror as well, all under your "summer" horror master category. Good one!

Watching while working on some horror related stuff of my own. In my spare time I've been reading some summer slasher novels, and I just feel the setting is so great. It reminds me of my teen years, before the military, before responsibilities, back when summer felt so carefree until I began thinking of "what if" after watching the various slasher films you mentioned. Great video as always! My favorite summer horrors are, of course, Friday the 13th parts 3, 4, 5, 6, and 9 along with the remake, Sleepaway Camp, TCM and its sequels but still need to see the burning. It Follows was a trip, my wife introduced me to that recently and it was interesting for sure. Some of the novels I've read that give me the same feel as these movies are the "Kill River" trilogy, "Golf Curse", "Camp Slasher", "Camp Slaughter" plus I recently started a novel of my own I hope to finish.

STD slasher lol that is not a term I thought I would ever hear, but It Follows is kind of like that. Funny topic though because I feel like the winter setting is also under used, being trapped in huge amounts of snow presents its own problems, never mind an unseen force, obviously The Thing comes to mind, 30 Days Of Night, Storm of the century and walking dead did an arc set in winter which was interesting for a zombie show/comic, I believe that's when they first encountered the whispers too, which made it even more terrifying. You should make a video on the winter season too, I think it would be interesting. Oh I can't hate on Jason Takes Manhattan either, but yeah the series roots is most certainly in summer camp horror.
