Super Mario 64 defines the N64 era in a nutshell - SM64 introduced a brand-new 3D universe to the Mario franchise with exciting & creative exploration techniques! Not to mention the STELLAR soundtrack! It's no surprise this game is still leading as the most sold N64 video game to date, with nearly 12 million total sales!
This is another remaster, this time from 2018; I've been wanting to remake this anthem for quite some time now, and this week was my 2nd anniversary with my wife, so I just barely didn't have enough time to get a new song completed so I could spend time with her!
New remixes will resume next week, thank you all for your patience! Please enjoy this revamped version to one of my absolute favorite video game soundtracks of all time!

Ah man, you absolutely nailed this remix, in all aspects. Holy heck, Player2, I'm just blown away at the level of sheer polish here - and by _your_ standards, no less. đ
Okay, let's jump right in! I love how you don't waste any time getting right into the meat of the song, integrating SFX in that intro riff. That first segment builds the anticipation perfectly, while still sounding really dang nice on its own. I really like that rhythm guitar that kicks in at 0:24 for a few measures, and it's just a reminder of how you never let any instrument, technique, rhythm overstay its welcome - in fact, just the opposite. Your music is so chock-full of fun, yet short-lived surprises, that it always leaves me wanting more! I'm always repeating segments of your songs just to hear all the wildly creative and cool details that appear for a limited time only. And I know that takes a tremendous amount of effort, to introduce so many instruments, and to make them all fit into the context of the mix as well as you do. Some people use every crayon in the box just for the sake of having done it, but you really select your colors, so to speak, to fit a coherent scheme each time.
Okay, so I have to mention this before anything else: the synth that emerges at 1:08 sounds absolutely gorgeous. I honestly don't know if I've ever heard a better single note in my life, and I mean that sincerely. Something about that note, the way it crescendos with that perfect vibrato and that rich, layered sound... my goodness, I listened to that 2-second segment more times than I can count. Maybe I'm getting too caught up in the details, but I had to comment on that in particular, because I just enjoyed it way too much. I think also, the fact that it emerges in a very bass-heavy and housey section (which sounds dope, by the way) and just comes out of nowhere is what makes it especially good. Definitely taking mental notes here! đ
And while I'm mentioning details, I have to say, that downsweep at 1:32 was beautifully executed, how its delay pans back and forth - with offset timing, no less! Really, no aspect goes unaccounted for in your music, it feels like. Also... you are a gosh-dang genius, the way you worked the camera error sound into the following segment as a core part of it. Heck it even sounds like the original pitch of the instrument, too... madness! I feel like I'd run out of comment space if I mentioned every instance of SFX usage here that I enjoyed, but I will say that the timing is ultra precise, and I'm especially fond of the sequences where you have sound effects forming a sort of chain (like at 2:45) - so well done! The ending here is really cute, too, how it winds down with a sort of 8-bit throwback after the unrelenting energy and drive of the remix.
Great work with the visuals, as well, and I love the detail at 0:30 with that color shift and accompanying screen shake - it looks so cool, and I honestly wouldn't have minded seeing more of that in the video (again, another reminder of how you use so many cool one-off details that makes the viewer crave mooooore)! Ooh, and the way Mario colliding with the wall at 2:25 syncs up perfectly with the "d'oh!" is a great touch!
I really feel like I can't say enough about this remix, P2. It's absolutely insane in all the best ways. I'm a bit late here with this comment, but this has been a go-to listen for me since it debuted. Looking forward to much more, as always, my friend! đ

Oh gosh, this might be your largest comment yet-I'm rather intimidated by the behemoth that I'm about to respond to; you _never_ leave a detail out, which is quite miraculous!!
That rhythm guitar was planned to be in from the beginning, but I accidentally muted the track at one point & it sounded *so good* without it that I decided to bring it in halfway thru the measure! Sometimes it's the mistakes that make-or-break the song đ€Ł I'm absolutely stealing that crayon compliment; never heard of someone describing the use of instruments in that way, you consistenly become more accurate with your innuendos!
Haha I'm glad you picked out that specific transition, I had already picked out SFX that I wanted to throw in that spot, but I figured why not add to the greatness with a sweeping note! Because of the overpowering bassline, I had to introduce something in the hi-end frequency range, as I kept that section empty of hi-hats & crash cymbals to emphasize the deep untz untz đ
When I made my first remix back in 2018 I wanted to incorporate the camera SFX as a percussive element more often, but frankly it became too annoying to listen to as I was working on this new remaster; like I say, less is more! And when you have less, it adds to the replay value of the track as a whole because it'll make the listener want to hear that section over & over again đ alas, this remix was rather SFX heavy, but I think I kept it just right!
Thank you on the visual aspect, once again! As I was recording I heard that "d'oh!" happen in-game & I was like, "well, that's the pre-drop clip!" hahaha đ I'm still finding new ways to entertain the viewer (as the _main_ content is the music) and an accompanying visual does make the song, with lack of better word, pop!

I discovered that brassy lead from a total mistake, I was tweaking a brass lead preset & modulated some parametersâŠPOOF that brass was born, it was amazing!! And thank you haha the vocal chops were TOO good to pass up!! Thank you!! đ

The first time I played this game, I remember being blown away at what I was looking at, grabbing that trident N64 controller for the first time, and was stumped.... I could make Mario punch and jump... BUT I COULDN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO MAKE HIM RUN... My 6 year old brain couldn't figure out that the middle handle on that controller is apparently HOW YOU PLAY 98% OF THE GAMES ON THIS CONSOLE. I remember panicking, "What the heck? My mom is gonna make us leave this Hollywood Video any second now I need to see da gaaaaameee."
Wow when you threw in the Hollywood Video reference that took me BACK!! But dude I completely agree when I first turned this game on it was mind blowing, definitely one of my favorite moments in gaming history

Do you make your own clips for these videos?
The majority of the time yes - this particular video I used the NSO N64 app! Every now & then I'll use official trailers or demo gameplay videos, but I have composite/HDMI converters to work with my capture card so I can record almost anything. It's not as hard as it looks for 3-minute music videos haha
