  • Here are two ways to tighten the neckline of your hand-knit sweater without re-knitting the collar or doing anything drastic. These two simple methods will become great options if you're not happy with the way your collar is sitting on your neck after you finish knitting a sweater and you want to tighten it up and add some more structure to it.

    Wow, thank you! Decided to go with the method using the crochet hook and made 2 rows at the top, then a further at the base of the collar, as it was still a little loose. So pleased with the result.

    Crochet slip stitch at the base of the collar tightens a lot more because you are doing one slip stitch for every 2 knit stitches (knit/purl) combination. You can adjust this by adding a chain stitch between each slip stitch, or perhaps between every other slip stitch.

    I have an oversize wool colourwork cardigan made by my late grandma. I love wearing it but the neckline was so stretched out and I was terrified to start unraveling and reknitting it in case I messed up. I used the slipstitch around the top of the neckline on the inside and it worked great! Thank you so much!

    This is the most useful thing I’ve learned in knitting in a long time! I was easily able to fix the neck of a sweater I made for my grandaughter. She actually had lots of the clear elastic for her beading and ten minutes after watching your tutorial the neck was no longer hanging off off her shoulders! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾

    I’m assuming you could use these methods if you wanted to tighten the ribbing at the bottom of your sweater as well. A lot better than ripping out all of your ribbing! Thank you for posting.

    How did you know I needed this right this minute. I made a sweater for my daughter and she doesn’t like how wide the collar is knitted.

  • @sassy6292
    @sassy6292 Před rokem +1

    I didn’t like the loose neckline and so I doubled it over and hemmed it. I may take it apart and do the crochet thing. I crocheted the bottom hem for the same reason and considered crocheting the collar but decided on the doubling over. Now I’m wondering if the sweater could be knitted without the collar and then later knit from the edge up to a desired collar height. Also I used much smaller needles for the cuffs which gave me a nice blouse sleeve and an even smaller needle for the sleeve bind off.

    My 4 usd thrifted aran sweater has that tightening style 6-9 minute mark around the hand cuffs but the collar none which makes it unstructured and exposed to being stretched.
