When asked what his biggest fear was, he replied 'Myself' that really hit me, this related with me and probably many of you too.
I agree 100%
It hit me hard as well.
That hit me like a truck
I did feel a little bad for as he has so much potential but he made horrible choices
I am more than capable of complete self destruction
the vicious cycle of emptiness, looking for dopamine, and impulsivity has made its mark on my life as well. weed, uppers, cigarettes, shoplifting, starving myself or binging, whatever can fill that void. learning to trust in myself and sit with difficult emotions without drowning them out has been an extremely painful process, but it’s healing. I hope John can find some much-needed peace. gotta break that cycle of shame
This is so beautifully insightful.
Weeds not bad dude. Its better to live a lazy loser unproductive life, as thats the stereotype asociated with, so you are just a peacfull in the long term. Are you robbing banks? Are you killing or raping or coniting genocide or torturing or selling slaves?
Nope, just a stoner. Now all other drugs, the ones that make you fiend and commit violince on yourself ir others, yes those are truly bad drugs.
Weed is just a plant, a plant that cant even kill you, its people who are addicted to truly hard drugs, even pharamciticul miracle pills like “lithium” you know “anti depressants”, yes thise are some that you will be more addicted to than the stupid plant that grows in dithches and fields.
Love this
do you have borderline personality disorder?
Well said, I can relate as well
Mark is like a therapist, the way he listens, doesn’t judge, gives subtle advice… you are truly incredible Mark, thank you for all that you do.
Yes I've noticed he's heard so many stories he's starting to psychoanalyze.
Mark doesn't do a lot of talking - just enough to coax his guests into telling their own story in their own words. So even though the guest may be lying in their teeth, the video is still authentic.
Certain ones He judges.certain ones He enables..
Mark has tapped into a parallel universe and has given us eyes and ears to see it.
And yet we carry on like it don’t exist.
good way to put it....
Nothing parallel about it. This is real as it gets.
N Bazzi, I totally understand what you mean. There's a lot of people that just don't realize how real these kinds of lives are that are being lived. So yeah, Mark has opened up their eyes to that (the parallel universe) metaphorically speaking. Have a great day, N Bazzi✌
Devils greatest trick
"I've spent the majority of my life in prison" is a sentence that really floors me.
Definitely scary
“I’ve been full of shit my whole life…” best line of the interview.
🤣🤣
It’s amazing that he’s still seeking for self improvement, even at 63. Which just goes to prove that most people don’t have it all figured out. We should strive to swallow our pride and try to be better humans than we were yesterday. Totally appreciate this man’s story because, although I’m only 20 years old, I see some of the traits he mentioned in me. This interview is a wake up call for me to turn it all around. Hope he gets better and nothing but the best for him.
Legend has it, he robbed a bank after the interview
🤣🤣 No doubt!

I almost robbed a bank before. I was on the run, deep into meth and well being a marine Iraq vet shit got crazy fast. I thank god to this day that there was 3 armed security guards in that San Diego bank that day. If it wasn’t for them, it was going down. 3+ yrs sober now and thank god that’s over. I had the note written out and everything.

I'm perplexed by the smile he has on his face the whole time he tells his messed up story.
Some people are positive no matter what!!
I guess
John admitted that he was self destructive and lacked remorse for the things he's done. I think that John has gotten caught up in a cycle of self destruction because of his remorse. I think that John like many other addicts, gets high so that they don't have to feel anything, and that's what's really driving their addiction. It's really a way of avoiding emotional pain and hurtful memories. If a pill was invented that took away feeling emotions without all of the side effects of narcotics/alcohol it would cure most addictions. Thank you Mark for bringing those facts about in your interviews.

There are small, but essential, differences between me and people like this man. I have a brother for whom those differences are far fewer. Sad.

Something that fascinates me about most bank robbers is that they're incredibly self-aware, yet they usually tell their bank robbery stories with great glee and almost as if they're boasting. They seem to know it's not a very good thing to do, but somehow they also do not care to much for that fact. Even after theyve quit.
Yeah most criminals know what they do isn't good, but take pride in the fact that they didn't get caught. And if they do get caught, they take pride in the fact that they got away with it X amount of times before getting caught. I was in prison with a kid who robbed pharmacies. He used to tell the stories about how many he got away with and how much money he made. His only regret was getting caught.
Most bank robbers don’t realize the damage that they leave behind. Lot of PTSD from retail bankers who are behind that window…

Drugs make people pathetic
Honest to God, I've got nothing in life being honest, honestly
Today marks 433 days sober from alcohol. I never knew it was possible. My best mate has seen me achieve so much (I own a successful company), and I remember asking him "do you think I can do 90 days off booze" and very unconfidently he answered "in time I think you might get there." John says his biggest fear is himself. The first 100 days off alcohol were some of the scariest days of my life, all my childhood and war trauma (Iraq veteran) came to the surface and I was trapped in intense indescribable pain, there was no escape. I remunerated so badly in rage, anxiety, deep depression, frustration that I just wanted to kill myself. I faced it all, and when I came out the other side God rewarded me with healing and my sanity. I deal with problems now like a boss. I'm still working on what genuine happiness feels like, but whatever I am feeling I am sure it's close.
Dam it's EASY for me to not drink
I can go months at a time sober as a judge without batting an eyelash
The problem is i LOVE being fcd up
If i could PHYSICALLY do it id NEVER be sober
Any tips?
@@GORILLA_PIMP - lucky you. I used to love getting hammered to, I thought it was the best feeling in the world... however, its a slipper slope for me.
@@kameronclark515 - yep. Write these down: 1. What is my purpose for quitting drink? What will the benefits be of quitting drinking? 2. What is my purpose for drinking? What is the benefits of drinking? Drinking promised me all the things sober gave me - loving myself, being happy in the moment (i no longer live for moments, i just live - happily), I "felt" confident for a moment on booze when I walked in a room, but my body is now ripped and my mind is sharp so I AM confident when I walk in a room, drinking told me it would calm my nerves but gave me anxiety, sober made me realise i needed to feel to heal, and I healed, no more anxiety. So finding your "why" is really important. Then you got to ask are you interested or committed? If you are committed nothing will stop you.

@@jamesgilbert91
That stood out to me as well. He doesn't seem like a bad person deep down, but he has no sense of consequence and no remorse to hold him back. He needs therapy, or some sort of mental health treatment. Although, given the stagnant and upsetting state of that industry now, they'd probably just get this guy hooked on benzos or something. The level of selfishness is just unheard of. Smooth talker. Indeed he is. But just completely immoral and incompetent. By choice. Completely narcissistic. He admits that he has no level of empathy for anything he's ever done wrong to people. That's why he's been able to do it for so long and now the consequences are swallowing him whole.
John is a likable guy who clearly struggles with antisocial personality disorder and drug abuse.
His admission that he has never worked for anything in his life is a step forward in turning his life around. His fear of dying in prison seems strong. I wish him the best.
He seems like a good guy. Im glad he is staying out of trouble.
Ted bundy was a likable guy and also had ASPD. I don't wish people like that well.
It is so strange to hear someone frankly tell you he has never felt bad about the many bad things he has done. How could you not? It's a nearly impossible state of mind to imagine.
@@billscannell93 it did seem strange. He later agreed that he is carrying a lot of guilt however. The soundbite I choose to focus on is his strong agreement that he wishes he had stayed in school. Even after doing whatever he wanted for a lifetime
antisocial personality disorder? I'd say he's remarkably balanced(for who and what he is/was.) Just had a drug addiction and was resourceful/brave enough to try it.
edit: wait up he's on heroin that explains the chill
I think he suffers from low self-esteem and that is what makes him sabotage himself and take the low road instead of staying on the straight path. He seems intellectual and a nice person, not violent. It's just the self-sabotage that ends up hurting himself and the people around get caught in the crossfire so to speak
And that fact that's its easier then taking the high road

The worst mistake parents can make with their kids is spoiling them. My mom didn’t know how to show love to me so when she married rich when I was 17 I got everything I ever wanted. Cars, clothes, trips, jewelry, everything. That lasted until she cut me off when I was 25. I was sent out into the world unprepared. I had no life skills whatsoever. Now that I’m a parent, I knew not to make that mistake with my kids. It took me years to mentally be okay with going from unlimited money to waiting for a pay check every two weeks. If you think you’re doing your kids a favor by spoiling them, let me tell you, you’re only crippling them.
This could easily be me if I hadn’t gotten sick and tired of being sick and tired.
Interesting interview John certainly has charisma, softly spoken. Shame his whole life has been dictated by addiction and crime, could've been so much more. Hope for his sake he finds a way..

@@nikkimcmurtrey2565 True, of course he can and hope he will.
The calmness is an aspect of the heroin/fentanyl high. Not for everyone, but most people that do heroin/fet do it because it forces you into an unbreakable spell of feeling happy and contentment, like this man is displaying. This is how+why people with all sorts of jobs can use it daily, even when working or, like me, specifically _for_ work. I'm usually a bit weird/awkward socially when there isn't some activity for me, and those around me, to focus on. When I started working at a fine dining restaurant here in Washington DC as a food runner they wanted me to move up to serving and while I did end up doing _okay_ as a server without using dope, I excelled when I did dope before coming in to work because it did the same thing for me socially as having 1-2 moderate-strong beers would, which is to say it would tear down and barriers of insecurity or anxiety that I would put up as an emotional defense due to being hurt by people I trusted or made friends with in the past. That is where the benefits from a couple beers would end, but with dope it _also_ made me feel happy and outgoing as though I had just accomplished some long term goal or difficult task, even though all I had done was perform a simple medical procedure by IVing a drug I bought from someone I met by chance through a friend. The allure of dope is being able to, like the guy in the video just did, perform socially at your very best (calm, confident, outgoing, happy, humble) at all times, in all situations, so long as the drug is present at high enough quantities in your veins. This man never even mentioned suicide being attractive to him, and it's like that for many users, but with fentanyl being so much stronger than dope, it just takes one mistake in judging your dose with a new batch for you to die, and that's the only reason it's been as deadly as it is.
John has my full and undivided attention, and curious respect for who he is, despite his history - and that's through his honesty in this interview. I wish I could tell him that.
Beside the stories, bravery of sharing them in these talks fascinates me.
His mentality could have made him a stellar veteran, has all the attributes of a good soldier if his strengths could have been used for protection instead of destruction.
when ur stressed one of the first things your body pushes down is empathy. drug use is also a big stressor
Amazing interview. I understand his point of views so much. Addiction fuels so much of our decision making abilities. Shit is sad.. trying to get clean now but I'm too suicidal 💔💔💔
@Southwest Kev Please do not commit suicide. Your addiction is a temporary problem and life can and will get better. Please get help right now.
