- In this video I will be comparing the iPad vs the MacBook for students. It doesn't matter if you are in middle school, high school, college or university, this video is for all students. If you study medicine, graphic design, marketing, engineering, biology, med, math, music production. Both devices are amazing for taking notes. Note taking is specially superior in the iPad Pro since the iPad Pro has the Apple Pencil 2 which is insanely good specially in apps like Notability. There also thousands of student iPad apps which make the experience more useful as well. Let's compare them!

What do YOU think? iPad or Mac for college? 🤔
It honestly depends on what studies you do, some need more programs only Mac whereas the iPad is better for studies that use no specific programs.
I like my MacBook and my iPad for being a law student. This was a very informative video, Nikias! Your videos are always AWESOME!!!!! ❤❤
iPad 🙂
For medicine related courses, iPad is better.
Mac
In my opinion if a student doesn't have a laptop, it's better to buy one instead of iPad. Every student needs a laptop/Macbook. IPad/tablets are just extra devices, most of the times are not a necessity.
I‘m studying medical engineering and I must admit, studying anything engineering related is just not possible without a laptop. However I use both the Mac and the iPad.
I prefer the iPad for any sort of preparation for exams etc. or notes I make during lessons.
The Mac however comes in handy, if you are working on project which include some form of programming, 3D Design, etc..
And especially in engineering, these things are essential.
I have found my sweet spot, using both devices independently and also collaboratively together
iPad was my best friend during university years. However I also had Mac and used it for several important purposes. So I think having both is better anyway 😅
I used an iPad for the first couple years of college, going back in January and got the 2020 Air for my upcoming semester. I have a magic keyboard for my iPad but i found it a pain to set up and disassemble with everywhere I was going. I appreciate my macbook air so much already and i cant wait to use both; iPad for handwritten notes and diagram drawing, laptop for essays, video projects ect.
Nice Content, real helping and even more way understandable on choosing our battles.
I liked the video at the start as I know every video you upload is going to be quality❤
I find the perfect combo to be a MacBook and iPad mini
Expensive
For me I have an iPad air 3 and iPhone 14 pro. I'm looking to get MacBook air
@@neelarjunraj1163depends if u buy the latest ones or not
that's when you get a used 2017 MacBook pro and a new iPad mini for the ultimate combo@@neelarjunraj1163
MacBook Air 15 inch and iPad pro 11 is the perfect pair
Universities that have lots of essay writing included, have specific formats in terms of Word for example and I have found that the Office apps found on iPad are very limited compared to the ones on Mac and PC. Plus doing research on iPad is a bit of a pain unless you have a high tear m2 or m1 iPad that will allow safari to keep it's tabs open without having to refresh anytime you multitask. The file managing is quite bad and also the split screens are very limiting. Again unless you can have an m1 - m2 iPad Pro in which you can use center stage for a better multitasking experience.
I do all of my work on my mac (I'm a UX Designer) and it works great. Does everything I need it to do. But I've been planning to get an iPad to play games, watch movies, browse and generally do more casual things in more relaxed positions like while lying on the bed, relaxing on the couch etc. Also, it'll help me a lot with my hand drawings, right now I draw on paper which is unbeatable but is not always very convenient and accessible.
Med school student here, I personally think it all depends on how you navigate information into productivity. I have an iPad Pro paired with and Apple Pencil mainly for my classes that require me to edit images and draw molecules. I also like using the iPad for poster projects and customizing just about anything with my own personal touch. Also, if you have a WiFi/Cellular IPad it’s a game changer because if you forget your phone you’ll still have internet access.
Now, I also have a MacBook. Initially I got one because some professors include extensions for labs and require a windows or Mac to launch within canvas. Also, if you have a class that requires you to use Labster it will most likely require you to have a Mac. Labster has an app which I have used on the IPad but it will crash and not all labs are supported. For reference I have a M2 IPad Pro and a MacBook Pro M1.
Also the Mac is a productivity monster for just about any project, it will allow you to be fully creative. Paired with the IPad Pro? It’s a match made in heaven.
this looks like a perfect setup but my only concern is budget 😂
Would you mind if I inquire you a question ? What major are you doing ?
@@AlirezaBakhshandeh-vu8tk I was a Human Bio major
I use a Mac mini for my setup and an iPad Pro as a laptop. Suits my needs very well
This is the video I wanted, thank u
Personally I am fortunate enough to have both, using the ipad as a second monitor at school using sidecar is amazing, i can chose between one or the other, its such a hard choice to pick which one is better, both have their strong suits
As some one getting my masters degree in audio engineering and music technology I use both my MacBook Pro and an iPad Pro interchangeable as both have their benefits for me as a student.
This is the hardest answer, but get BOTH. save up for what you think you use the most first then get the other later.
Hello nikias, I've been watching you for a while now. You're videos are very informative, I was wondering, how do you edit your videos. On what device, have you tried on iPad?
When you use the iPad Pro using touch, there is something “magical” that you feel. It’s the best way to use iPad. It’s a full size keyboard, it’s a piano keyboard, guitar, book, magazine, camera, canvas, music studio. It’s anything and everything. I love just using iPad Pro flat on my desk and typing away or making more music with synths on GarageBand.
I personally use both especially if I’m taking math related classes. I love both for their own reasons but together they’re amazing 👏🏾
Amazing video!! 🤩
Ipad is my only apple device I bought during my student years. I studied IT and ipad is not made for that. Got a crappy laptop from my school but did the job. The ipad was the laidback device, airplay on tv, read mangas, drawing etc.
I'm questioning about buying a laptop but for now the ipad + dektop does the job. I don't wanna work elsewhere than on my desk. When you choose ipad it's for either creation, lay back or note taking.
Great video and I'm studying IT . Really thinking of getting a Mac but this video really helped me a looooot 👍🏾👍🏾
iPad is terrible for IT, go Mac for sure
For what it offers Mac is a bit overkill but the battery make up for it. Schools and works can offer you Macs in IT or other laptops too. See if it's a good investment for outside of school and after 😁
I just watched all kinds of your videos like for the past hour
Which screen protector do you use for iPad?
If you are a student you could have a 1.5lb iPad w a keyboard that has a 10 hour battery life and with the pencil you can do creative things w drawing and pictures and video. You can also read all your books on it. So you can eliminate carrying a bag that weighs a lot, so that’s a huge difference
You are describing 2% of university students. For real world scenarios a laptop is a must
im not sure what university you can accomplish without a backpack, also macs are just as portable as ipads
@@hackxy1165I'm not sure about macs exactly but laptops are definitely very heavy and not as portable as ipads/tabs, the size weight of the laptop itself and if you are gonna be on the laptop for hours the charger is very annoying to carry, so in case of portability the pads win.
bottomline, try your best to up your budget and get both than you dont have to think too much about it. there are some important apps that only works well on ipads and some important apps thats well optimized for macs only so try to get both (try to stick with M series on both ipads and macs you can get second hand)
You are a big help to me and i do my work on my iPad and I enjoy it
I initially got a macbook air m1 and love it. I use it for notetaking during lectures, writing papers and making powerpoint presentations. I am now in the second semester and also ordered an iPad pro for note taking after class and sketching things up if needed since ive done that on paper during the first semester. The best thing to do is really to just get both.
Yeah I have a new 15” MBA, and I think that plus an iPad Mini is the sweet spot.
I’m thinking of going to tafe and then uni soon and I’m thinking about getting a MacBook. I’m probably gonna do a photography course or an engineering course I want a Mac for the ecosystem and all the great features but I have been a lifelong windows user and I don’t know if getting a Mac is worth it. Do you recommend a windows laptop over Mac?
HR student here. Ive got an iPad Air 5 for my school a couple of months ago and couldn't get used to it. It was my first iPad and didn't like the integration of word and other programs that Ive got to use. Now I have a MacBook Air 15in and it's the best laptop Ive ever own.. my first MacBook also and it's amazing how it's reliable and fast. Screen is gorgeous also and I find myself more productive with it with note taking.
You should try IA Writer, better Than Word in any way.
How do you “write” notes on MacBook? Does it also have a touchscreen as Ipad? Cause I haven’t heard him say that in the video?
I use my iPad Pro for most of my school stuff because it works just perfect for writing things down with Notability for example but I also need my MacBook because I have to write a seminar paper and I need the desktop version of MS Word for the writing process and the iPad version of word just doesn’t have all the features. But all in all I love my iPad and they work perfectly together. :)
Thank you again Nikias for the great video!
I ABSOLUTELY agree with you: I use both iPad (Air) and the macbook and are really great together
So for me who hates keyboard and starts nursing school in a month it’s better to buy Ipad and pencil? I do have Ipad 9th gen but only has 32gb I use it to watch movies so i don’t think it’s strong enough for writing bunch of notes. And I do have desktop PC that I never use so it will do for few essays down the line 🙄 im so confused
I've just bought the MacBook Pro 14" M2Pro 1TB and it's the most incredible Mac that I've ever had the pleasure to use. That screen is beautiful, the 6 speaker Dolby Atmos speaker system is insane plus 20+ hours battery life for me. I'm using the iPhone 14 Pro 256GB and the two together are perfect. I use Apple Keynote for my 150+ people presentations and it's so professional and stable with 4K video. I use the iPhone 14 Pro as a keynote remote control via WiFi and it looks cool! The HDMI 2.1 output on the Mac is great for connecting for your presentations. We use a 150ft screen projector and it's perfect!!!
what would you guys recommend for me as an account student
Amazing video
Im typing on my ipad pro and i gotta say its just perfect for a student
Instructions unclear; ended up buying both /s
My 2017 MacBook had broken in the middle of the school year, I bought a Magic Keyboard for my iPad to just hold me over until I could buy a new MacBook. I did not know that I would not be able to use my iPad for proctored tests. Just a heads up. Now I have the MacBook M2 and I use my iPad for my the digital textbooks.
woah, You really helped me in this. THANK YOU SO MUCH. In the beginning i was confused if i to get an ipad or a mac, but in the end the truth was that i was actually scared of getting an ipad, just like u said i was afraid it might not be enough?.. BUT, Now look whose getting an IPAD, Hmmmmmm..........ME. THANK YOU🤗
i have both but dont know what to use regularly
Do you have a video on how iPad and mac book can work together, especially in a desk top set up?
I am starting college next week and I will get an iPad Pro with magic keyboard and a Logitech Crayon and a MacBook Air M2 (thank god for the apple student discounts)
what are good apps on the mac for school?
I personally don’t care about the pencil, don’t really have a need for it. I prefer typing up my notes anyways. I also worry that the iPad may not properly configure some of the websites that I’ll need to use. Plus another thing I was concerned about was sitting in the chair, how would the iPad hold up to me sitting in a chair trying to use the keyboard, then you brought up the thing about it not being very good in those circumstances, and I instantly knew I need a MacBook lol. But to answer your question, I am going to school to get my degree in nursing. Planning on being an RN to start, then move on to being an APRN.
i know im 6 months late to the party here but im going back to school may 6th to get my psychology degree, all i have is my 12.9” ipad pro m2 and a logitech keyboard case but im gonna try to start with just the ipad before i commit to buying a macbook in addition. im excited! the ipad pro really does feel like a perfect 2 in 1
iPad Pro + Mac mini pro. PERFECT COMBO
Hey are there any Radiation Sciences majors looking to become medical techs? I'm contemplating of getting the magic keyboard for my iPad Pro 6th gen 12.9in, I'm already doing all my digital notes on my iPad it be easy to switch from the official Apple Folio case and the Magic Keyboard case since they both attach by magnets so it would be easy to switch from note mode to type mode and my iPad has been able to do EVERYTHING so far, but I keep hearing in Universities (I just got my associates) might have some programs that are not downloadable on the iPad and will require a full on laptop for. So anyone who's not an engineering major or computer major (we get it those get a laptop) but someone getting their bachelors in some kind of Medical Technician path have you found a necessity to get a laptop or you really could just do everything like I already have been with my iPad to get my Associates?
have a m1 iPad Pro bought a keyboard and mouse to go with it and it’s great for my use case
I love both iPad and MacBook !!! ❤️
When you was in school what you use to use for note taking?
Great video. What is your go-to iPad size? I ask you this because at the moment I am struggling to choose which iPad size suits me the best. IPad 10 - iPad Air or Ipad Pro 11inch are more compact than the 12.9 pro version, but on the other hand, the latter has more real estate for note taking.
These iPads are very similar in general. I got myself the iPad Pro 11 inch for the 120 Hz refresh rate, because it’s more pleasant for my eyes. For notetaking I got the Magic Keyboard. The 11 inch version is completely fine. I also got an Apple Pencil, but I have noticed that it causes me to be too focused on writing itself, rather than the topic I’m writing on
@@PatrickDani ok, thank you
My iPad, Apple Pencil, and Magic Keyboard were my go to during my bachelor degree program. I considered getting a Mac for dental school so that I can have no limitations but I haven’t made the purchase yet because I haven’t found the need to yet. This set up is THE BEST
Which size?
@@swanben11 12.9 inch
interesting I'm debating on getting a magic keyboard or a Macbook Air since I'm studying to be a medical technician, so you really were able to do everything on your iPad? Context I just got my associates bought to transfer to my bachelors and I have been able to do EVERYTHING so far on my iPad Pro but I'm not sure if I'm gonna need a laptop later for my bachelors
@@M2JoyBoy I didn’t need my laptop at all I did everything on my iPad with my keyboard and Apple pencils
hmm ok thank you truth is I already bought the Macbook Air and I've been using both for a couple of days now and to be honest I kinda miss having a keyboard for my iPad and I kinda find it annoying having to wait for iCloud to sync between my Macbook and my iPad for Goodnotes and I have till the September 23 to return the Macbook and save 400$ and get the Magic Keyboard and go back to only working on one device which I kind of miss. I have another week and a day to work with both and see how it feels but as of right now I'm leaning more towards returning my Macbook and getting my Magic Keyboard@@kaalyes10
Ok let’s be honest, for students that don’t need mac software. The iPad is way better for stylus support and touch screen. You also get a more “Pro” experience like ProMotion on iPad Pro but not on MacBook Air for a similar price. But if you need Mac software and you are not into digital handwritten notes, then the MacBook is way better. Of course, it is the best to have both as the two and vastly different in terms of use case.
Can someone confirm software experience is same in Macbook and Ipads? like Excel, browsing, using productivity softwares?
Cool vidéo
My question is that I want to buy a laptop I can consider both apple and windows the only problem is will it be a problem in an environment of windows laptop in college as most of them will be and I have seen that 3rd party apps can be installed through some jugad and all in macbook so I want a laptop which will be useful to me without thinking about budget if it lets me work for a long time without problem
I am a CSE student AIML
Whats recommended for real estate students?
I would recommend the iPad for college although I love my Macbook Pro for serious work. True fact, that safari is more reliable on the MAC.
Which one is best for nursing student?
Awesome videos sorry I’m soo late
nice bro i like it
Soooo, I bought an iPad air from a recomendation from you in an earlier video. Ive just started engineering in urban planning. However im still unsure if I should buy a laptop along side it. I have the money for a macbook but if its worth spending it or just getting a magic keyboard, I dont know
The Magic Keyboard is great, but it will not turn your iPad into a Mac. Hang on to that $300 and put it towards REAL laptop, especially now that you can find M2 MacBook Airs for as low as $949.
I’m moving on from my aging mbp 2016 and getting a Mac mini and iPad
I’ve been looking at refurbished 16” pro, M1…16gb ram, 1 TB storage on a site for about 14-1500.00 ish… regularly new at 2600…..I am close to pulling the trigger… I love screen real estate and it has the ram and storage I need.. so
I have that exact Mac and I wish I could have gotten it for $1500, LOL! It’s a fabulous computer and you should go for it!
Could you tell me which site it is? That sounds like a killer deal
will it be a righht decision for a student of english major to get an ipad only?
When we ask “ can iPad replace a laptop “ the reason is the we need both iPad and laptop, we need more iPad for drawing but we also need to use it as a basic laptop, but we don’t want two devices and we don’t have that much money so we ask that question.
I don't have an iphone but I have an ipad and a macbook pro because they are best in their category and best value for money products in the market right now.
Just buy both 🤷♂️
Is a ipad pro m2 12.9 wifi color gerey good for a 13 your old
off topic but… how much do you like GUTS? 😍
No don't listen to him on the any single "iPad" I have experience in that for Organic Chemistry I was using a 2019 Generation 7 basic iPad and it got the job done but I wasn't able to use a paper screen protector because the screen was not powerful enough to read inputs through a paper screen protector and it was so annoying when I was taking notes and my hand would stick to the glass screen. But ever since I got a scholarship and I upgraded to the iPad Pro 12.9 inch generation 6th and it reads my apple pencil not only thought the apple screen protector but it registers the input before it even touches it WHICH WAS A LIFE SAVER it made taking notes SO MUCH EASIER and less stressful. So yea if you don't have access to money I recommend nothing older than the regular 10th generation iPad since they updated that one to be more aligned with the newer iPads
I'm starting my 4 year Chemistry course this year and I'm stuck between what to get. Do you recommend a bigger screen for note taking/drawing structures? Or is it just preference? The iPad mini 6 (I think it's the mini 6) has a great screen and for a reasonable price. I just cant justify paying over 1k (up to 1.5k if I get a keyboard case) just for note taking. I have a powerful windows PC and I think I would get along fine without a mac. So, what iPad would you recommend?
I have same struggles. Starting nursing school in a month. I am old school that learned all by writing not using keyboard. They told us it’s our choice. We will need for online books and school app either laptop or ipad. Honestly I hate keyboard and I have desktop PC I never use for that reason. And I’ll only be needing it for few essays to write. For the rest is our choice. They even mentioned there are people who still write on paper during 2yrs of school. But I don’t want to have to carry 50lbs of weight of paper. So by all this I need an Ipad with pencil. Just confused which one to get. 🙄
That's funny I'm taking an MA class right now xD. @@vexystar3389
I own both MacBook Pro and an iPad air. I use my iPad Air for about 95% of my stuff and the other 5% where I have to download software is my MacBook Pro. I do my tax work on my MacBook Pro and Excel account analysis on my MacBook Pro.
6:29 which city is this timestamp ?
Mac all day for creative musicians. When I make a tune in GarageBand on iPad or iPhone I can’t airplay it to my paired HomePods. I can though on a Mac if I share it to my Mac and save it to music. Can’t save your songs on iOS music like on macOS for some reason
Get Both
i use the ipad mini for most things! and yes i have an ipad pro and a macair m1 .
Does that tend to include filling out PDF forms/ assignments? It just seems like a lot of pinch to zoom…
Does someone know if an iPad or a Mac is better for Chemistry studies?
Just buy an ipad 7th gen and an m1 air normally students use ipad for multimedia and browsing 7th gen does it fine
I got used to the iPad files app, using the MacBook Pro 14 files confuses me at 1st... still exploring...
yea I'm with yea, Finder on Mac confuses I actually find the files system on the iPad simpler
Med school this year i have a ipad so much more praticle than a mac for me i can make anotation on the teathcer pdf in books and for everything i can do it with my ipad
I have a MacBook and an iPad Pro. The MacBook Air is lighter and less expensive. Both is nice but the Air is just better for education
Can anyone recommend what I should get as a student going into high school? My school doesn’t provide laptops anymore, just old iPads and I want to know what I should get if I want to succeed. I need something that can help with essays, notes, and research, but I also really enjoy art as a passion and plan on becoming an architect when I’m older and want something that can help with that. I also have side hobbies of video games, and I don’t want to get one and I realize that the other is better suited for me. I’m thinking of either and iPad Air or the smaller iPad Pro, but I’m wondering if a laptop would work better
I know this was getting long, but organizing files isn’t something I need at the moment and I’m not positive on studying architecture so I don’t want to just base my choice off of that
👍👍👍👍👍 up his videos
I have both and I almost never use the ipad. I think the main reason is batterylife. I have one of the late versions of ipad pro and its batteylife sucks comparing to macbook. Macbooks are king of the batterylife.
I think only drawers and designers might need an ipad. For all other users I recommend macbook.

I'm studying behavioral science and psychology, which should I get?
I really like to draw and all about using the pencil and touch screen, but I'm afraid that the ipad could not be enough for college
Same here, business studies but Im completely lost on what to get, I want the iPad but am terrified of not being able to get things done on it,
the comments are not helping, just made me even more confused lol
I’m in chemical engineering and I’m worried the iPad won’t be enough. Right now I’m in cc and some classes have slides that I just wish I could right on as such on the iPad but I feel like a laptop would suit other needs best. As of now I have a school laptop they let me borrow or one at home but it’s not the best quality. Idk if I should wait for student discounts again in August for a laptop since it’s more expensive and get an iPad for now but it’s a lot of money 😢
@@lilianlopez23 there are cheap Samsung tablets perfect for taking notes, if you are able to, buy the tab for classes and when you are able to, buy a laptop, since your major needs a laptop mostly.

Both is the only answer
I prefer iPad. I still have my Mac at home that I do use, but the iPad is more portable + more functional for me
i think mac is more useful than ipad because macos as a software is also better than ipados. from the point of view that you can definitely do more things without being limited by anything. ipad is good for students but one question is "how long will you be a student?" maybe later you need something that will respond to more demanding tasks?)
Only 2% of university students will need an iPad TBH

Trust me iPad Pro 12,9” and Mac book pro 16”
But the iPad does not support the Fall version of Microsoft word, etc. When I use Microsoft Office on my iPad, it stacks and types very slowly, so in my opinion, get the Mac better than the iPad

2nd best option is iPad Air.
Uncomfortable truth: Microsoft office 2013 running on old windows 7 is more capable than running Microsoft office on m1 iPad Pro on 2023 🤡
