Since the Jupiter was released this January, I've gotten a lot of questions about what neck pickup to pair it with. TBH, I get along with most neck pickups and I rarely use them for gain sounds. I've gotten to check out a lot of SD's pickups over the years and I've really found a good home with the Sentient model in the neck. Its fat and PAF-y, but still hot enough to pair with the Jupiter.
I don't typically go for split sounds either but the Jupiter pulls off my absolute favorite split sounds to date. Because of it's 18.5 DCR, Kevin Beller (lead engineer at SD and legend) explained that higher DCR mags typically make for a darker and bigger sound. So when you split with the Jupiter, it won't get overly glassy and harsh. I chose a tune to show how these sounds work in a less Extreme Metal sort of application.
Many thanks to all of you who have been putting the Jupiter in your guitars. Hopefully this demo will help you make a decision about a neck pickup pairing.

Best hands in the game.
Couldn't agree more.
The rawness I hear is refreshing
Flawless
I believe the only modern player who's as smooth is Nick Johnston. You can't even tell if he is holding on to his pick or if it's glued to his fingers. Given he plays a less "aggressive" style of music, but damn. Mega props to both of them!
@@maximeb190 Andre Nieri is on par with them, also, Mats Haugen and Sam Vallen in my book
This song shows the greatness that is Wes Hauch.
Absolutely!
When I lived in Virginia a few years ago, I was able to see you on tour with AAL (Richmond). Drove my family 80 miles on a weeknight for my boys to go to their first ‘real’ concert. When we walked in, you guys were crushing it, and my kids looked back at me like “holy shit...NOW I get it.” Put them up in the very front, and they still took their earplugs out. Unforgettable night. Thanks for all you do.
My grandma just passed and this right here has been super therapeutic for me. I appreciate your music so much and I hope others can find comfort in what you do. Bless up boss :’(
That's the song 'Gabrielle' from the Alluvial album! \../
Sweep picking on the bridge pickup needs to be appreciated more. So got damn clean Wes.
I wouldn't think of sweeping with anything but my neck pick up. it just makes more sense sonically .
Jeff loomis?
@@glennhughes2664like yeah, but that sound is so overdone. I like the percussive bridge sound sometimes
Out of everything I have listened to in my 36 years, I think this is probably the best instrumental/solo type song I have ever heard. I definitely think Wes is the best metal guitarist on the scene right now (and one of the best guitarist in general)
Him and Brandon Ellis are the top two in my opinion
Oh I 100% agree. This is a guitar player's guitar player. The difficulty of this man's repertoire can only be fully appreciated by musicians. Every metal player I look up to, look up to Wes.
1:57 is life changing. It’s chill inducing on another level
The best song of the Alluvial album, period.
I love the ending especially. It has sort of a happy sound to it but really sad at the same time
@@retrorewind6042 bittersweet as hell
@@gigabrad4570 agreed
I have this combo in one of my guitars, and it kills. The tight ass bass response on the Jupiter blew me away. It has the most clarity and is the most dynamic of any high output pickup I've ever played. It's like the pegasus grew an extra pair of meaty hangers. The split sound is to die for. Especially when I'm in the middle position using a crunch tone. Can't thank you and SD enough for putting this in my hands.
Still no endorsement deal?
@@roadsportuk Wondering the exact same thing! I have Alpha + Omegas but thinking of changing them
Most beautiful thing I've heard in years. Possibly decades.
Ok WTH... this is so humbly inspiring, you can really see his dedication to the instrument.
An absolutely brilliant piece.
Thanks for sharing Wes! That is one of my favorite songs you've written!
Your signature pickup is sounding very sick!
Man, I love this song so much. It's masterfully composed, and I dunno, it just grips me. I've listened to it probably a hundred times. What is the inspiration behind it?
Its actually about when you're BUSTING for a poo and you wait hours and hours and refuse to use just any toilet and then finally get home to your own toilet and the seat is still warm and your offering to the poo lords is fantastic and everything is serene and fine........ Then theres no toilet paper.
@juna wood hahahah oh for sure. but the water is off cos i couldn't be bothered paying the bill. I have the money but i'd rather spend it on lasagna and some cheeba. ;)
I feel like this Nick Johnston in slow motion
@@TIGERGUTS what a fantastic comment, good sir!
@@Sir_Catnip Thanks pal! I love cat nip too! Makes me CRAZY!
2:37 dude that was a sweet transition.
this song better be on an album. This is worthy of far more than just a demo.
Late, but this is Gabrielle by Alluvial.
One of the most expressive solo song in our modern time !!!
Received my Jupiter last week. It will go in my new custom guitar being build. Great work Wes !
Some of the best technique anywhere. And going for that Artie Lange look, too. Just nice.
Sooooo dynamic. Amazing.
Charlie Robbins thanks dogg
Sounds so freakin good, can't wait to hear all the new stuff you're working on
This song gives mr goosebumps everytime i listen to it , one of my favorite solo guitar songs . It def takes me to a different place .
Wow, somehow I hadn't come across this video until right now, but thank you so, so very much for making it. Since the day you released this album I've found this incredibly beautiful and emotional, and I friggin love it so, so much. It's an incredible pleasure to see you play it. :D
Your playing is absolutely gorgeous Wes!! And what a great composition, I really but really liked that Alluvial Album also. Cheers man!
Easily one of the best guitar solos pieces ever.
Love this tune Wes! Been stoked on Alluvial stuff since I discovered it your solos are fantastic on the album. Rock on man!
Not sure how you only have 5 thousand subscribers man. Your videos are some of the best playing I've ever seen on CZcams. Cheers!
@2:42 Is one of the sickest passages I have ever heard, across all genres, on this earth, EVER!
@@MalcolmPugh tip of the hat to you as well, player. Let’s get a hang in next time we’re in Nash.
@@WesHauchAlluvial You betcha!
That was some beautiful playing, and fantastic tones. Loved this.
Beautiful! The whole album is just pure perfection. So dark, deep, horrifying and melodic at the same time. Genius.
Quickly becoming my favorite guitarist man.
For some reason this has a huge Andy Timmons vibe to it for me. Love you style Wes!
We need more of Alluvial and Conquering Dystopia for sure!
High output and transparent. These sound fantastic!
First time hearing Wes play and I'm floored. Inspired.
Such an underrated guitar player. Wes, you are one amazing musician who deserves a signature guitar. Well overdue
Wes you're the man. Great song and playing pleasure to watch and listen. Thank you for that video.
Dude, this song is so fucking beautiful
Finally somebody actually demo the Sentient and not just the bridge pickup 🤘
This is literally the most beautiful song I’ve ever heard, thanks for being an inspiration to keep me playing 🎸
Brought tears of joy to my eyes. Very good playing.
Just bought the fixed bridge version of that guitar. Have wanted a Japanese ibanez since I was 16. 18 years down the line and I'm happy as hell. Good to see my purchase validated!! Haha.
I HAVE WATCHED THIS OVER A HUNDRED TIMES
This is going to be one of those videos that I come back to for motivation. What a masterpiece.
Idk how this guy doesn’t have at least 1M subs. So good
Great composition wes.. really enjoyed the Alluvial cd🤘
Such a good song back in the good old days.
Great combo!
Loving the DiMarzio guitar strap :P
I love your style! The dimebag lick you did and made your own was sick 1.57 !!! I loved it.
You used to jam with my uncle Nick and my dad Adam and I've taken up the mantle of learning metal, I've been playing for about 2 years now and I’ve just started to learn this song by watching you play, again I guess haha, anyways wish me luck!
I remember you, bud.
I also learned about the Lettuce, Onions, Peppers and a ripe ass tomato riff from the song Exponent; that was hilarious
Hands down one of my favorite instrumentals
Absolutely incredible Wes!!! Think I’ll turn my guitar into a coffee table now 😂🤝🔥
the only video that I repeat 15 times per day 🎸
One of the coolest things on guitar I’ve heard in a while .. that’s badass
Masterpiece. My favorite song from the album
Man this is incredible
Wes, you're great.
Sounds great!
It's been years and I still come back to this video. I still wish I could find the tabs for THIS version of the song. I can find the other tabs but they are copyright blocked on ultimate guitar
I'll die peacefully the day when Rick Graham & Wes will collaborate and release something together.
West plays almost exactly like he took Rick's slick licks lessons...
Another Alluvial album PLEASE
The pickup must be called the Jupiter bc Wes is from another planet! This is magnificent! \m/
These give those brittle ceramic highs in a very good way. Love the lead tone here dude.
My son has this guitar. Love it.
Why nobody talks about him ? He is so underrated. One of my favorite players.
Hey wes, awesome vid! Any tips to nail cleanly the sweep picking part at 1:58 ?
Practice like a madman?
Killer chops. Slaying tones. Thinking about getting a Jupiter for my Ibanez Prestige. Would be interesting to see how it compares to my Nazgul currently.
Awesome tone, man! I'm really curious on how the Jupiter compares to the Nazgul.
hearing Wes play always makes me want to pick up my guitar, a true master.
this song is what i'll be doing this summer then.
God his guitar makes you feel sooo fucking good. There's not many like this there's true talent
I dig the real pissed off beanie vibe while simultaneously laying down some real sick ones.
SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL, MAN YOUR GOOD.
Jesus Wes this is unreal
What a song. I attempted to cover that badass solo on my channel awhile back but seeing this, I now know I gotta get to practicing! More Alluvial please. Wes is a legend
Buddy boy. If I was to die and then find myself having to watch this on repeat, I'd consider it my own special heaven and I'd be kinda mad I wasn't religious throughout life. This is the closest dimebag pickin I've heard. It's a real honest story being told through the guitar. It's fucking gorgeous
Brilliant work Wes!!! God Bless you and yours..
This feels like a continuum to Floods
your playing is my favorite
This song is amazing, I actually dont know Wes that well, just kinda happened upon this video while doing pickup research, but the feel of this is awesome, is this a mode or something, my jealous guitarist brain is on fire right now trying to figure out why this is so badass, WHAT IS HE DOING THAT IM NOT?!?!?!
Awesome fretwork. Raga approved.
Ya buddy boy! You know what my fat hangin lobes vibrate to.
What a timeless masterpiece
just bought the tabs from sheet happens. Thanks for the awesome music.
Nice track
Got mine. Awesome. Thank you for your music.
Will there be a 6string jupiter
Brilliant piece of work.
I love your Music Bro.....I din`t know you and what you do is amazing
That sounds really good!
You should get a signature guitar and signature pickups imo.
Sounds awesome! One of my favorites from tdlfa. What amp do you got profiled up in the kemper?
B3n 3 the mid gain stuff is my Friedman JJ that I profiled a while back. The high gain stuff is a profile I made of that EVH which is probably the best plug and play amp on earth. Doing something with that soon too.
Amazing - sounds killer!
love this song
Loved this so much! And awesome guitar too
Insainly awesome. My mind is honestly blown.
I know the pickups is great but your playing is good too
Excellent Playing! Powerful Sound! Where can I get your profiles for Kemper? If there is such an opportunity ...
Max Music I might do something like that on this new release.
@@WesHauchAlluvial it would be very cool.
Loved it. Start to finish 🤩
