- Gertrude Berg stars as a middle-aged widow who decides to go to college in this 1961 TV comedy-drama. Co-starring Mary Wickes, Cedric Hardwicke, Doris Singleton, Ken Berry, with special guest William Windom.
Thanks. Pure delight. I’d never seen this show. A shame it only lasted one season. Terrific cast. I recall the earlier hit, The Goldbergs.
Absolutely extraordinary ... we've always adored brilliant, wonderful Gertrude Berg, born Tillie Edelstein (1899-1966)
Thank you very much indeed.
William Windom was such a good actor. Gertrude and Mary needed more screen time. ❤ Oh, Ken Berry... a talented cast 😊
The precursor naming of Mr. Thurston Howell, III, of “Gillian’s Island,” a couple seasons later, on CBS-TV! One of those life and TV “coincidences!” 🙂👍
and Aneta Corsaut Ken Berry meet again on Andy Griffith/Mayberry R.F.D
Just so you know, this episode is called "Goodbye, Mr. Howell"
Thanks.
Are you pointing out the comma, or am I missing something ?
William Windom later went on to become doctor Seth Hazlitt on murder she wrote
Loosely based on the 1949 film "Mother is a Freshman" starring Loretta Young.
Andy Griffith's girlfriend (?), Seth Hazlit, and Ken Berry. Interesting mix of across!
I wonder what Six 1961 Dollars is in today's money? Didn't teachers in college get paid ANYTHING?
