It took me watching this film a few times to notice that Eva Gabor in this scene is severely underrated. She's got a thankless job here, miming being lively and vivacious on the sidelines for minutes on end without repeating herself. She does great.
@@Gigipretty64: No this was Eva; just seven years before she starred with Eddie Albert on Green Acres as Lisa Douglas. No I stand corrected. It was eight years before Green Acres. Even though Gigi was released in 1958; it was filmed during the summer of 1957; just before her biggest fan, and future Green Acres fan, (that's me of course) was born. They even filmed some of it on location over there in Paris.

That's correct, at least initially, but according to Wikipedia, "In September, the cast and crew flew to California, where several interior scenes were filmed, among them the entire scene in Maxim's, which included a musical number by Jourdan. Lerner was unhappy with the look of the scene as it had been shot by Minnelli, so, at considerable expense, the restaurant was recreated on a soundstage and the scene was reshot by director Charles Walters, since Minnelli was overseas working on a new project.[17]."..........Sorry..........
@@hudsony777 I just read Lerner’s memoir, and you are mostly correct. To my understanding the problem with the original shots of the Maxim‘s scene was merely that Vincente (as AJL refers to him) forgot to film any closeups of Louis (Gaston) and therefore they needed to recreate Maxim’s on a sound stage so as to film the closeups that would make the voiceover style work. Vincente was aware of the reshoots but was otherwise occupied shooting another film in Paris by the time the set was built, so Charles Walters was brought in to film the closeups and later also filmed “The Night They Invented Champagne.” I believe the final product was a mix of the two different shoots.
