I'm English, born and bred, but with Trini parents and lived in Port Of Spain for nine years. What's good about T&T?
Roti, Mayaro, Big Red, Doubles, Women, the Trini accent (women only, sorry!), Royal Castle, Chinese food, The Savannah, Soca. What's bad? The potholes, the beggars, the thieves, the laziness of people and a lot of people are unreliable and just don't know what timekeeping means! That's it so far! 😀

Not to sound bad, but I am wondering why this nation has not changed the name of this city? The Port of Spain seems like a VERY painful reminder of those who suffered via the ship's that docked in this region while transporting human cargo. Since freedom has occurred on this island maybe a more suitable name could be issued to reflect the atmosphere and the free hospitable residents of this beautiful island.

Above all, using the pathetic country of Haiti as an example of a 'post' enslaved nation, with its overt poverty and misery, fails to convince me of the point you are striving to argue; if anything, I reaffirm my statement while adding Haiti as an example of a place that NEEDS to find a new identity!!! There are many countries in the world that are dangerous and corrupt. Let's not talk about corruption and danger in some of the biggest countries in the world much less the smaller ones. Other countries don't put everything on the front page on their newspapers, radio stations and Internet like Trinidad does. I have been there twice in recent years after not going home for years. It was amazing to see that people still tell you good morning when they come in the maxi taxis and when they see you on the street. It is amazing that people are still kind to each other. It is amazing that when I wanted pure orange juice in the supermarket that a woman who was shopping walked over about 6 aisles to show me where the juice was stacked. It is amazing that I was never attacked once and I am back home safe and sound.
