    I have the feeling that many of her accomplishments are underrated. I mean, she completed a calendar grand slam and it seems like it never happened. I feel like we must talk about Serena and nobody else. Steffi deserves more praise for her historic career.

      I agree. Some of it I think is Steffi herself… She’s the only former great who doesn’t hang around the game still, always kept a low profile and doesn’t maintain any social media even.. She declines interviews when people want to catch up with her and the focus isn’t on her charity work. It feels like she gave everything in the moment to her career, endured the public spotlight, and now wants to live a quiet, private life of her own terms. I try to remember that because I’d love to see more from her and have people make more of her…but it doesn’t appear to be something she’s interested in at all.

      That is very much in part to the US media. They have been the ones pushing Serena as the GOAT even before she reached Steffi's total. Dont get me wrong, what Serena did is incredible however the media makes her a clear favorite over Steffi and that is just not so. They forget Steffi retired after just turning 30, capable of still winning multiple GS titels (even Davenport admitted so). But Steffi never played for titles, accolades or fame. She played because she loved the game. And when she found something else to love (Andre) she packed up her racquets and left. On her own terms

    • @deedledave9826
      @deedledave9826 Před rokem +7

      @@sds2954 also take into account the fact that Serena cherry-picked, focusing more on the Grand Slams over the day-to-day grind of the tour. If she hadn't prioritized the Slams, I don't think she would have overtaken Graf's slam count, and I also don't think she would have competed into her early 40s either. I think she would have been done in her early 30s had she competed regularly.

    Thank you so much for honoring Steffi Graf at the US Open!!! 🎉👏
    #10. Steffi’s 1988 calendar year grand slam moment by winning her first US Open. About a month later, she would win Olympic gold forever etched in history as the “Golden Grand Slam”. A few came close (N. Djokovic, S. Williams) but could not complete. An incredibly difficult tennis achievement both physically and mentally in any era.
    #1. Steffi’s last US Open win with her total slam count at 21 in 1996. Memorable match against another great tennis player in Monica Seles.
    Thank you for the memories🤩 from a faithful fan 😇. IMHO, Steffi is the most humble yet fierce champion and the greatest ever !!!

      Then why did you watch this video? And what Graf fans say she holds any of the records you mentioned? I've never read that anywhere. What makes her the GOAT is the fact that she won half the professional tournaments she entered, she's the only player to win a Golden Slam, spent more weeks at No 1 than any woman and doesn't have a losing record to any significant rival. She doesn't have the 'numbers' Evert or Martina has, but it's a quality vs quantity issue. She's not won as much as them, but she's lost a lot less.

      Out of all the GOAT contender it's Serena who had the weakest resume despite facing weak competition post Henin's retirement in 2008.

      @@rajusaha855 I rate Serena as #5 after Steffi, Court, Navratilova, Evert. And only narrowly ahead of Wills.

      @@tobiaskluke7094for Bartoli being short in height and fat in weight, she is definitely a better player than Steffi Graf, if you want to think so, remember YOU are brainwashing me by saying Steffi Graf is great . By your own admission, Steffi Graff, needed to be tall and lanky to win grand slams, yet Marion Bartoli who is short and fat and won Wimbledon grand slam which Kim Clijsters never won, how proud is that? Bartoli is a better player just like how she is and was and Steffi Graff is a close eight to Bartoli as per Wimbledon 2013, Bartoli won without dropping a set is a million times better than Kim Clijsters who didn’t even make it to the Final. And Marion Bartoli is already a million times better than Kim Clijsters by winning 1 Wimbledon Grand Slam. So that makes Bartoli a gazillion times better right. All this is not really true and not really false, except in YOUR mind. Steffi Graf used to drop sets.

      @@flash-uj6ly Steffi Graf won several tournaments and slams without dropping a set. And how is one Wimbledon win without losing a set better than 7 with losing sets? That logic comes straight out of Delulu-Land. Graf has won 107 tournaments, Bartoli 8. plus, Graf is only 5 cm taller than Marion… so she was no giant either
